Pioneers scrimmaged at Wartburg last week, and from the reports all went well.  This Saturday though Pioneers face Augustana in their annual scrimmage.  Looking forward to this one.  I still am unsure if I can make it yet, but the way things are unfolding already early in the week, I should be able to shoot over there for a little while.

Bardon is no longer on the team. Probst has a minor injury ... will probably play at Madison on Wednesday.

Cross off another guy off my WIAC fantasy league draft board (along with Jason "no defense" Price !  ::)

For Old School and anyone else interested in attending the Purple and Gold game on Wednesday in Stevens Point.....The cost is only $6 per adult, $5 per student and $4 for kids.  This includes all-you-can-eat hamburgers, brats, chips, and sodas.  Coach Semling will introduce and talk a little about each player prior to tip-off, which is at 7 PM.  Food is served starting at 5 PM.  A good oppotunity for us Pointer fans to see what the new recruits look like.

A Blugold here, although I did attend UWSP, too, and lived in Point for quite a while, including the years the men and women won titles...

That being said, as one who always had to pay for a $6 ticket to a regular game - since I wasn't able to get in free as a student - the $6 price for the Purple/Gold game is a great bargain, considering you get two, three, maybe four burgers,  ;D chips and a soda...

It's a steal of a deal, and you get to see one of the top teams in the country... I highly recommend it to you Pointer fans - old and student alike... What else is there to do on Wednesday night, besides homework?  ;)

My dual-citizenship as a Blugold/Pointer has allowed me to jump on the Pointer bandwagon during playoffs during the 'Golds drought...

You asked what you could do on Wed. night.  As a Blugold, you could take in that Blugold/Badger game.  It was a great experience last year for Stout and I would expect the same great experience this year for the Golds.

Stoutguy -

I may listen to the Blugold/Badger game on the radio...

And, although it's not fair to compare a D1 school and a D3 school (and I realize the games are basically set up to benefit the D3ers, so they can have that experience), and the numbers on the scoreboard are not what this exhibition game is all about, they still will be keeping score...

{someone get a pliers and take a few words out of that last sentence... I think it's grammatically correct, but sheesh. Ha.}

And I cringe at what margin is going to be, unless the 'Golds come out and play a North Carolina 4-corner offense...  ;)

P.S. I think there will be a better game in Point on Wednesday, though...   :)

Did you go down for the Blue Devils/Badgers women's game this weekend?

All-You-Can-Eat?  I'm fasting tomorrow...and the guys at work don't call me Kobayashi for nothing! lol  ;D :D ;)

On a related topic, Swampgoon noticed that KG (Kevin Grusczynski) wasn't on the initial roster this year...and neither was Jeremy Krull.  Everyone else is accounted for, with Shawn Lee taking the leave in-season for personal reasons.

Six freshmen on the roster with five "featured" in the "recruiting class" article on the website.  Greg Knox was not included in that, so not sure who he is.

Anyway, I'll see you in Point with a mouth full of brats! (one at a time for me, though)

Pointer fans -

Here's a link to a great story about someone who may be a bit before your time, and didn't play in the WIAC/WSUC, but comes from a great bloodline...

Tony Bennett, son of Dick, nephew of Jack, and cousin to Jay and Nick, if I have the family tree correct... ;)

Yes, that Pointer game might be a tad closer.  But you are right about it being about a nice opportunity for these d3 kids.  I was going to do the color Wed. with Sully but a previous commitment on Tues. and now with Menomonie playing on Friday, I can't.  Would have been fun.  I was not at the women's game Sunday but reports are Stout held up very well.

The SIDs Poll is out, so I may as well embarrass myself and release my own poll without any real "homework" going into it!

1.)  Stevens Point-most veteran team, has to deal with life without Krull
2.)  Platteville-Skemp may be the best big man this year
3.)  River Falls-Ryan Thompson is a loss, but Courtney Davis could make AC
4.)  Whitewater-Always athletic, but sometimes inconsistent
5.)  La Crosse-Brandon Brown is really quick
6.)  Oshkosh-New look team without Gibson and Capelle
7.)  Superior-I really don't know anything about the boys up north
8.)  Stout-They were 5-11 WITH the Nonemachers
9.)  Eau Claire-Dan Beyer is a real good player on a real bad team

My ranking don't really include anything on transfers or new recruits, so that may make a big difference on the performances this year.

I think things will be pretty balanced this year when talking about the top 4 or 5 teams.  I think the 1st place team will have at least FOUR losses and there's a very good chance there will be a tie for 1st place.  It's going to be an interesting year, but when isn't it?!

Wow.  You expect a balanced season, OS!

Ha ha, Charlie,

Last year was hardly "balanced".

SP 15-1

Osh and LaX 12-4

Whitewater 10-6

Platteville 8-8

Stout and River Falls were a further 3 games back.

In balanced, I mean...something like...

SP 12-4
PL 12-4
RF 11-5
WW 10-6
Lax 9-7

Top 5 teams are within 3 games of each other, instead of SEVEN last year...

How would you know a bad team when you see one??? Your, err, and my Pointers (invoking my dual citizenship here... ha.) have two championships in this decade, and have been at the top of the league for forever... That's not only a good team, but a great, excellent one. You've only seen the best, so you wouldn't know a bad team if one bit you in the butt!... You aren't qualified to judge bad!  ;)

Just teasing...

Make sure you have an extra brat tomorrow night for me... Do you ever see Jack Bennett - does he still teach - or Dick at Quandt?
