RF 75-56 winner over Peru State of Nebraska, (now 1-8, I think). But Peru came within two of beating Concordia of St. Paul last nite. They are down this year also, having lost all five starters from a year ago.

Falcons had a lead of 24 with less than 5 minutes left, finishing out with an all sub lineup. Four guys in double figures led by Willie Wright (16--all in first half) and Davis with 14 and 9 rbds. Robertson had 12, Koonkaew 10.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

buf - Ouch...

If the 'Golds need someone else who can contribte to that 46% from the stripe, I'm the bricklayer guy who can do so...

But seriously, that's going to continue to haunt this team the whole year, just like it did last year... And I am going to keep on harping on it, too!  ;)

QuoteWhere are the returners for Sup Town???

Purely a guess: Buchanen is building his own team. UWSup went two or more years without any real recruiting; the players who could have stuck around may not have foreseen a place in the lineup. The team consistenly (OK, for two games) plays a young line. But, I don't really know.

Buchanen is heavily campaigning to bring the crowd to games: free burgers before the game (thanks to the UWS BBQ Club...does Stout have one of those? It should), upped the ante on half-time game prizes (win an ipod for one; $300 gift certificate for another). He's working as hard on the audience as he is on the team.

Can he possibly lure hockey gawkers away from the ice? Stay tuned

If he is going with the trial by fire with his freshmen it is a gamble.  I thought also that they had some talent last year that would mix in well with young players.  Should they finish 9th in the league again he will need to keep those kids interested from season to season.  it could pay off huge if he could.

getting people in the stands is something all WIAC schools should do. Point and Stout have a little meal after the games (Stout's is open to all and Points I believe is for boosters and family).  I have always thought that at the D-III level that the program should make itself as open to the public as possible all year long (not just the season).  Not to sound to bias but Coach Andrist has done a great job at Stout to get fans and keep them coming.  I love that Sup is trying it too.  When fans believe it is not just winning or losing but the atmosphere and sense that it is their team as much as the schools is a great feeling for fans and players.

As a player I loved talking with fans both home and away about WIAC basketball which is why I am probably on this board.

You just liked talking to the fans because every one, ah, ahem, ahem, looked up to you!  ;)

Pointers win their season opener with ease, ripping Carroll 105-72. Led by 20 at halftime and then turned it on in the second half.  Their rotation went 11 deep tonight which is not a good thing for opponents because there wasn't a noticeable drop off after you got past the 7th or 8th man. Last year they were basically limited to 7 men, but the coach is showing confidence in his players and they came thru tonight. Carroll doesn't have the team they did last year, but I think the Pointers may be better this year than last. The negatives tonight were too many fouls and more than normal amount of turnovers. 3 point shots were raining in from everyone and inside game was tough as well. We'll see how they do Monday against DII Northern Michigan.

Point hit 18 3's for the game.  The box score isn't up on the website yet, but if they were 12/16 in the first half, then my guess is they were better than 50% for the game.

Hicklin had 4 or 5 3's and Pete Rortvedt had and another 4 or so.  I'm just afraid of what happens when this team is off from outside like against Wash U or Oshkosh last year...  could be painful!

Point did turn the ball over more than we're used to, but I think alot of that has to do with the lack of Jon Krull.  He was SO good with the ball and touched the ball every time down the floor.  I think that Jerome Wotachek can have an impact, but I'd like to see him be more aggressive when he's got the ball!

The funny thing is that, though Point won by 33, I don't think they played as well as they could have.  They did turn the ball over a bit (probably 12-14 I'd guess) and they missed quite a few free throws (OS and I were saying they probably shot better from 3 pt land than the charity stripe!).  The kids are going to be fun to watch again... I'm just worried about the inevitable off night!

From what I listened to on the radio (yes DR, I know, I'm a shat for being 12 miles from watching UWW pound MSOE) vs. listening to the radio.  I think WW was up by 30 at one time, but it sounds like Miller is playing a lot of players.  I'm not going to call it cupcake city, but ooooooohhh oohhhhhhh, schedule a "Williams" or "Stevens Point" in your opening tournament, not MSOE Engineering or a college named after a vacuum cleaner.

Go FINLANDIA.

PS...Getting a rotation with WW is key to the season.  I think that a lot of players have been waiting a long time to get some minutes (Jack Simon, Koski, Mitchell), so I hope that we develop a deap bench and can keep it going in the future.  Sounds like P-Ville got off to a good start.

yes its true that Wisconsin made it close and ND got its 2 second win of the year
BUT
Montana did not lose a single game and Stout is off to a 2-0 start why are you trying to drag me down ;D

Sorry, man - like I said, I'm a Wolverine-in-mourning, and not responsible for my statements! ;D  I was going to add that Montana had not yet met Grand Valley State, then realized they are d1AA, not d2 (the way GVSU is going, that might not matter!).

To salvage something for the Wolverines, I'll have to root for Appalachian State to three-peat!  If not, go Montana!

In fairness, most people thought the championship opponent would be North Park, not MSOE.  While NPU has been (very) down in recent years, they are on the rebound, and they DO have more rings than any other team in d3.

And it is true, Pat Miller was good in using the bench in this tournament to cement a rotation.   My first game will be UWSP against UWW on December 1st.  I pedicted only the important games, but hopefully we can get some backing behind bball like our football.

No to Finlandia.  GO WARHAWKS, GO GO GO.

PS-I still love UWRF.  Would love to hear where Richie Melzer is. I still think that Chuckie B now vs. Rich Melzer now could at least get one bucket in the hole.  DR, where u at g.???

uww4ever

I can't read a box score from Volleyball, but one from b-ball, the girls lost to Washington U tonight, lets give a shout out to U-Dub Dub and the amount of work that they are doing to win DIII championships.

Don't deny the WARHAWKS.

Point Game Story with boxscore link included.

Not trying to repeat anything, but Point played real well after starting out a little flat.  Of course, first game of the season, so what do you expect?  Carroll definitely misses the likes of Colomy and Drury, but still have a couple of good ones in Mueller (16 pts) and Ladwig (26).

Point's defense was suspect, but I know that will get better.  Like the Packers having a resemblence of a running game, Point did have a resemblence of an inside game.  Louis Hurd looked real good in the Purple/Gold game and he backed that up tonight as well.  The freshman, possibly dubbed "the new Jon Krull", went for 15 pts, 3 rebs and 3 asts.  He wears Krull's old number, looks a little like him and also plays like him a bit.  I really think he's going to be a very good player.  Jerome SWATachek looks improved from last year and could log some real good minutes this year.  He had a modest game with 9 pts, 4 rebs and two blocks.  Nothing fancy, but neither is the Packers run game.  Just enough to keep em honest! lol.

Anyway, a good start to the new season and Northern Michigan will be a good game on Monday, though "all world" Ricky Volcy, who scorched us for 32 and 13 up there last year, won't be playing this year (graduated).

I don't have too much of a concern about our outside shooting going cold, but it's only our first game.  We have more depth this year and we've added inside depth with Louis "The Hurt" Hurd!
