Stout did some nice things vs winona and have some shooters to make and already high tempo offense a little more dangerous.  Their strength is at the guard  spot with Enerson-Mathews, Webb, Mason and Buchholtz who all shoot and can take it to the hole as well.

As with any offense that likes to push it up the floor turnovers may be stouts X stat this year.  If they can hang on to the ball they should be a tough matchup for the WIAC this season.

Since BW is talking about good kids aside from Stout's guy's there are a couple of players that I have gottento know a little over the past couple years that I will be cheering for. Skemp, Rob Perry and Steve Hicklin are all guys that I have spent time talking to before or after games and Hicklin is has ties to my GF.  Fehrenbach is a guy who has killed us in the past and it will be interesting to see how he does now that Werner is gone.

May favorite guys while I was playing .... Werner, Melvin Williams, Skooblie , Cobb, Crawford, Gibson, Skemp and Jason Larson.

What, no love? :'(  I'm just kidding.  I didn't amount to much to really even be noticed, so my feelings are not hurt.  All those guys are good players but better people.

Everyone have a safe and fun turkey day!  Good Luck to your respective teams, unless you're Webster on Saturday and Wash U on Sunday.   Starting to snow...for the first time really this year down here in Platteville.

BW,

What else can you tell us about Goodwin...?  He's on my fantasy team after a good showing, at least at the outset...!

Saw him last night.  He's quick and he's definitely a SHOOTING guard! lol.  He uses his quickness to fake a shot and then run by the defender.  He's not around the basket too much, so fantasy-wise, you're not going to get that all-around game from him...it's points or bust.  He doesn't really rebound and he doesn't give the ball up much from what I saw.  He's definitely a difference when he's in there.  I was thinking about taking him today after seeing him play, but you beat me to it.

Greek Tragedy

When I took Beamish in the first round, I had that all-around mentality going, someone who won't score 20, but will put up 10, get 5 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals, a block...stuff like that.  I was still thinking about last year's stats and winning "categories."  This year, it's just a total point system, so Goodwin can go for 20 and possibly 2 rebs, 2 assists and 2 steals on a real good night.  I guess thinking it over, I'm willing to give up the overall stat line for someone that's capable of scoring 20.  Not sure if that made sense or just made things more confusing.

Mr. Downtown

Oshkosh beats St. Norberts to start the year, no surprise

Marsh leads the team with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Dane Seckar-Anderson (who will be known as DSA, makes things easier for typing purposes) had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Of course I know what DSA can do on the court, but I know a lot of people outside of Oshkosh didn't get to see him a whole lot (playing behind Kerry Gibson will do that to you) but this guy really is a TVD type of player. Hustles, Tough, and can play Offense and Defense.

Now, if he can work on his ball control (6 Turnovers, yeesh!) he honestly can be a 1st team All-WIAC.

Greek Tragedy

Back from DePere and the St. Norb's game and the home team already has their BOXSCORE up!  How kind of them.

Well, it was everyone's first look at Oshkosh as they opened up the nonconference schedule vs. St. Norbert.  As predicted, D.J. Marsh was the man, as shown by the boxscore stat line.  He was basically unstoppable when he got the ball and you knew he was going the basket.  He did actually lead the team in assists, so that suprised me.  Swampgoon and I like to call players like that, "The Black Hole" because when they get the ball, you never see it again! lol.  Anyway, offensively, Marsh was quick and to the basket and caused troubles whenever he got the ball.  Of all the positives Marsh has offensively, his defense is nonexistent.  There was at least a half dozen times where he was "defending" a player around the 3-pt line and then the guy would just blow by Marsh.  Definitely something he needs to work on!

Matt Miller also impressed me, moving from the "sub who comes in and just hits 3s" to a starter who can run things and basically get the ball into Marsh's hands.  He also did a great job defensively; he should've been credited with more than one steal.  I was surprised by his stat line because I thought he shot better than that.  Dane Seckar-Anderson was also a monster inside as St. Norb's had no answer for him.  He impressed me with his off-the-ball movement which resulted in some easy layups as the Green Knights players simply had a hard time staying with him.  Jordan Johnson was a surprise to me as he played much bigger than his 6'5" frame, doing very well on the boards.

Oshkosh did well and started the game off and lead 20-10 but then Norb's went on a nice run to tie it at 22 apiece with just under six minutes left.  Oshkosh got back on track to take a 34-26 lead that they would never give up.  They lead by a lot, probably 15-18 points, but never could really put away Norb's.  Norb's actually cut it to nine a couple of times, but couldn't get over the hump.  I remember them missing four free throws in a row (two of them as potential 3-pt. plays and two of them in the double-bonus).  Oshkosh was able to hold off St. Norb's despite Jordan Johnson fouling out.  DSA had two fouls with 10 minutes left in the first half and survived until 10 minutes left in the game before getting his 3rd, I think.  Not sure why Norb's didn't go after him in the first half.

Overall, a pretty decent opening night for Oshkosh.  I don't think St. Norb's is going to be real good this year, I think picked in the middle of the pack of a "down" MWC, with Carroll not looking too strong without POTY Drury and Colomy, Lawrence trying to bounce back from last year's tough year and Grinnell really the big horse now.

He's a player and he's going to be very good in this league.  The Carroll game wasn't an aberration, it was Matt just getting started.   While I think he'll have better all around games than OS gives him credit for I wouldn't argue the point that his primary value on a fantasy team would be as a scorer.  After all they don't call them shooting guards for nothing.

What happened to T2K.  I went back and read some of his posts ahd it looks to me like he mixed it up pretty good with you guys,  I think you really miss him.

I know him from the LU games and he told me that Pat was being a ***** and had banned him.  He wants to come back but can't without Pat's allowing it.

badgerwarhawk

I don't know what he did on other forums but here he offered nothing of substance.   His only purpose was to try and cause problems.  If that was his standard modus operandi I can understand why Pat grew weary of it.

I miss him as much as I miss having the flu.  ;)

BW,

Don't think I'm totally down on the guy.  He's a very good player and his quickness will definitely cause problems.  I've only seen one game of his, so I will give him more credit after seeing him more.  Sure, he's a shooting guard and that's what he'll do and is "paid" to do (for lack of a better term).  With players like Josh King, Rob Perry and others, he really doesn't need to rebound.  I mean, Steve Hicklin can be considered a shooting guard and he seems to be in there getting boards.  On the other hand, Point really needs to rebound as a team too.

Titansrus,

Nothing really stood out from the Oshkosh freshman.  Schrimpf started, but there wasn't anything that I can remember that made me say, "Wow".  I think he was in there to not make mistakes and obviously Oshkosh is relying on Marsh, DSA, JJ and M&M to do the work...and that's just fine.  Ryan Johnsen didn't start, but he had a pretty solid day from the field going for 10 points on 3 of 4 shooting while playing two more minutes than Schrimpf.  I could see Johnsen starting, unless coach has a plan to bring him off the bench as a spark and some leadership if the starters are getting a rest.  Some players are just better suited for coming off the bench, and like I said, he played more minutes too.  I think Oshkosh's bench is pretty short, at least for the first game.  They only went three deep if you take out Kretsch's two minutes and really two deep with Borgardt's 10 minutes coming when JJ fouled out, I believe.  Borgardt played 10 minutes, but that may be because JJ fouled out.  Luke Miller, at 6'3" is listed as a forward, so when Johnsen fouled at, Oshkosh was pretty short with DSA coming in at 6'7" and Marsh at 6'4" being the tallest on the floor.  It could get ugly if either JJ or DSA get into foul trouble, especially against a good rebounding team like Whitewater.  Not much height.

Trust me, Vikes More Vikes, no one misses T2K.  As BW said, he offered nothing to this board or site and Pat gave him plenty of opportunities to be constructive.
