Not to burst any bubbles but if you were a betting man, Drake, and you had UPS +15 it would be a tie and you would lose the bet. :D

Nice call though. ;)
Not so fast my friend.  A tie in the betting world is considered a "push".  No money is lost.  8)

Actually, you would still lose the "juice" (typically 10%) on a push..... ;)  That is unless you had a bookie who didn't charge juice.

Interesting with the Stout/UPS game... it was a 3 point game with 7:07 to go, and UPS must have turned up the heat with a 16-4 run to end the game... Stout made just two buckets the rest of the game, had 5 TO's and 4 fouls.

Through yesterday's games and per OS's post, the WIAC is 24-8 with 1 win and two losses coming against DII competition.

Pioneers go down to Wash U on Sunday.  Listened to the second half on the radio and it sounded like a great game to be watching.  Skemp's coming out party continued on Sunday scoring 23 on 11/12 shooting.  Pioneers shoot 70% in the second half, but with every Pioneer basket was either answered by a Bear basket or free throws.  Pioneers outfouled Wash U 24-14, and also meant it they were out shot at the line (UWP 5/8 Wash U 27/33).  Pioneers down as much as 17 in the second half and were to get it to 6, but again there were answers on the other end of the floor.

Wash U forces 20 TO getting 14 of them by steals.  Tyler Nading has career high 31 pts and ties school record 7 steals.

Listening to the radio guys RJ and "The Shark", the officials were calling fouls in the backcourt for play good aggressive defense.  Granted I know these guys are partial, but they couldn't believe they wouldn't allow a little bit of contact as long as it wasn't very obvious.  When closely guarding someone, there is going to be contact.  But maybe that is the type of play we're used to in the WIAC.

All in all, I think it was a good weekend for UWP because of the level of competition they've played.  Next up is the conference opener vs Superior on Bo Ryan Court.

While looking over the competition yesterday, I found this site (http://www.uwstout.edu/athletics/radio/bdradio.htm) linked to Stout's basketball page. It was live from the game in progress. I actually watched the last half of the UPS/Stout game. Good video but the sound quality wasn't that good. From what I saw, the TO's were Stout being agressive and not playing their game. Would be nice to see the other WIAC schools do the same as far as the in game video goes.

Koonkaew's injury, to the ACL it's thought, may keep him out the rest of the year. An MRI scheduled for tomorrow. He's on crutches now. If he's done, he can get a medical red shirt.

Any way you look at it, it's bad for the Falcons.

Any coach will tell you that when your team is playing out of state and has to deal with unfamiliar refs, it's you and your team's responsibility to note as quickly as possible how loosely or tightly the game is being called and to adjust your style of play accordingly.

Tough break, Fred.  I hope he fully recovers however long it takes.

I know this from when we played in different areas of the country.  I've talked to another former player from Edgewood, and he even said that depending on where you go in the country, the type of game that is played is different.  He felt that out east it is more of a finesse game vs Upper Midwest is much more physical.

I agree with you totally Greg.  I wasn't at the game so I can't give you a true opinion on the refs.  Hopefan had said in the SLIAC board that officiating in the St. Louis area in general is subpar with no consistency.  UWP plays pressure defense, I'm guessing Wash U plays somewhat similar since they were able to force 20 TOs, with 14 of those being steals.  Our guys were getting fouls called guarding the ball 23 feet from the basket trying to force some kind of turnover.  I'm sure Wash U was doing the same.  Our 6-10 center was 11/12 from the floor, and I bet no shot was outside of 12 feet.  He shot only 2 FTs.  Jeff likes to use the dribble somewhat to get to the basket so that already makes him more like 6-7, unless Wash U is extremely, extremely disipline (which I think when guys are now looking at him in the eye they aren't) then Jeff should've only shot 2 FT.

Again this is all speculation, since I personally wasn't there and natually a little biased to my team.  I also feel that I know enough about the game to say that if I feel UWP screwed up...I'll tell ya.

We used to joke down here on our way to games that if we were going to game in EC, Stout, Falls, or Superior we were getting the officials straight from the hockey game so with all the body checks they had seen, contact was to be expected.
