(chmarx's alter ego on universal health care:  I think any country that doesn't insure its citizens should drop sports.)

Minimal research revealed UWRF athletes cannot compete w/o health coverage.  Was JK's policy in force at time of injury? That's what gave rise to the current rumor.

40 million Americans have no health insurance.  Maybe it's time for Gary Karner to solicit bids for group rate, length-of-season  coverage for those WIAC athletes who need it.

I like Gibson as most of us do but this is a learning leason for anyone heading oversea's to play.  Our agent talked with us about understaning that the internet means anything you say they will find out be it in a small college paper, myspace or facebook.

Facts are US  players are a dime a dozen and if a first year player does not like it then see ya (unless your numbers are great).  But he is young (22?) and tall so he should get another oppertunity.

I feel bad for Kerry in that if as the author states, the article was written based on emails between friends, they should have stayed that way. If Greg Koch was a true friend he would not have published these thoughts from Kerry. I understand that Koch is a sports writer but after writing and proofreading the article, he should have known it was not flattering to Kerry's team or the country. If Koch was trying to be funny, as Mr_D thinks, he failed and has caused a lot of trouble for Kerry. After watching the vid, I can see that Kerry is still the small town guy and is really sorry about the whole thing.
Let's hope that this does not cost him his chance to play professionally, even if he never makes to to the next level.

Well said by both of you.

NEED A TRANSLATOR FOR THESE – Gibson stories almost always have the most comments, 262 on one story

There are many more. Here are the Google search results for "Kerry Gibsonas," as he's known in Lithuania. If anyone knows Lithuanian, indulge us. I'm pretty sure I know what the gist is, but curious to see how one-sided it is.

Man, I wish that Babelfish was available in Lithuanian. :D

After watching Gibson's apology on the video, I felt sorry for him. He's obviously just a young guy who made a foolish mistake, and was in turn the victim of his UWO journalist friend's foolish mistake as well. It must be very difficult to not only be in a strange country where you don't speak the language, but to now be in a position where so many people are hopping mad at you.

He almost lost me with his mind-boggling defense of Bud Light and Miller Lite, though. For crying out loud, Lithuanian beer must be toxic waste in fermented form if any sane individual thinks that Bud Light and Miller Lite are better.

At UWP we have to provide proof of insurance when the school year starts, not the season.  With the conditioning class that we took, they wanted to make sure all the bases were covered ahead of time.  It also made sense this way as well because we had to turn in our physical forms at this time as well.

If we didn't have any, we couldn't participate.  Admittedly I had insurance with my parents yet and the company that they worked for changed their rule for dependants from age 25 to age 22.  Since I was 22 when the change was made, I was grandfathered in until my 23rd birthday.  Needless to say I turned 23 before the season ended, but I didn't say anything, and luckily I didn't get hurt.  My family was going through a tough time health wise too, so I know I couldn't afford anything and my parents couldn't afford it either.  As I look back on it, probably one of the top 5 most stupid things I've done in my short life, but it comes down to $$$$ which is unfortunate.

The latest on the JK story:  his injury is not as bad as originally thought, but there are complications involving his insurance. They may get straightened out today.

I don't know about the RF situation regarding JK injury but I had a conversation this morning with Ed Andrist and he told me that "Yes, you must have insurance as an athlete to play but because it is costly, some kids have as high as a $5,000 deductable so that would be out of pocket for some kids up front."  I can see where many players would fall into a difficult situation with that being the circumstance.

Remember one thing about stoutguy.

He has owed me lunch since the Reagan administration.

The one day he offers is at 11:00am on the day I am moving.

Stout survivor

not just lunch... one time he was buying drinks and it was the same night as a snow storm and most of us could not make it.

He did pay for some later before i left stout, my last personal memory of him so next time when I wonder over there I will make sure to let the Blue Devil posters know and maybe it might happen again :D (throwing stoutguy under the bus... sorry)

I miss out talks too BDB did not mean to leave you out 8)

Are you still not going to talk to me man-to-man instead its "I'm telling your mom" (real mature)

My mother is a Saint and you know I can't argue with her.  It's like you are just running away after starting something ;D and to think you know someone

Sorry, Big Fella.  Not gonna work.  You are trying to goad me into a fight.  I'm going straight to Mom.  Besides, she is the only one who ever treats me with samples from Montana.

Snow storm, moving or whatever, at least he offered/asked! lol...

Eau Claire's win against Platteville definitely opened eyes and you look at their 5-2 record and say, wow!

As much as I want to say EC is a surprise, you do also have to look at their schedule and the Platteville game is really the only one that stands out.

They lost to a pretty good Grinnell team, I'll definitely give them that.  They are favored in the MWC.  They also lost to Aurora, the favorite in the NathCon.  Then they won three games they should've won against inferior opponents; Hamline (picked to finish last in the MIAC, I think), Finlandia and St. Scholastica, two UMAC teams.  They topped Stout on the road, but that's really a "pick em" game and if you look at their common opponent in Finlandia, they smoked them and Stout need OT at home to beat them, I think.  So, Platteville comes into town and they upset them.  Kudos to them.  But, before everyone jumps on the EC bandwagon, lets give them a few more WIAC games.  I don't mean to rain on the Blugold parade, but give it some more time!  ;D

Hamline has been one of the big surprises of the MIAC thus far. They are 3-1 in league play with wins over Bethel (picked to win the conference) St. Olaf and St. Mary's and an 8 point loss at St. Thomas. EC's win over Hamline may be better than you think.
