Augustana vs Oshkosh will be a great game, I think. Interesting to know that they stopped by after their game against St. Norbert's.

I would be rather surprised to see Oshkosh in the top 15, and I wouldn't say they are the best team in the WIAC, or even have the best 5.

Unlike the past couple of season's, they have came out of the gate strong and hot. Something that they weren't able to do the past couple of years.

I'm sure Augustana will be carrying over the some of the frustrations from their loss to La Crosse. Which I think will add more to the game.

FYI, it's graduation Saturday, like most College's this weekend. So if you are coming to Kolf to watch the game, don't expect many in attendence. The dorm's empty out on Friday.

If you can't make it, I'll be on the call for radio, and there will be live stats.

Yeah, Augustana stopped by for about 20 minutes, I think.  I thought it was strange and then remembered they were playing St. Norb's later that evening, a game they won in double overtime.  It's to be noted that Senior guard Jordan Delp, one of Augie's best players (15 pts/gm) ruptured his Achilles Tendon in the St. Norb's game and is out for the year.

They beat Whitewater and then beat Stout...it's hard to go from 12 or 14 points or whatever they have to 15th (252) though it has happened.  Oshkosh's starting five is real good.  They have a game changer (Marsh), a 3-pt sharp shooter (Miller) and a tough inside presence (DSA) and then two solid role players that can also rebound (Jordan Johnson) and shoot the three (Schrimpf).  As I've always said, you get Marsh or DSA into foul trouble and then it gets interesting.  Ryan Johnsen and Luke Miller usually come in just to give those guys a break.  I don't think their bench can be relied upon very much.  Point, on the other hand, has a great bench and there isn't much that they miss when they come in...but at the end of the day, you can only play with 5 on the floor!

I'm glad to hear that it's graduation and a lot of students won't be there because I've always experienced a hard time getting premium tickets! lol.  I think I may have to start buying my tickets in advance!  Oh, speaking of tickets, that's a dumb policy to charge a flat $9.00 rate for both games even if I have no interest in attending the women's game (no offense).  If I show up AFTER the women's game is done, I shouldn't have to pay $9.00.  I want a $2 rebate.

Kerry Gibson issues a written apology.

Wish I could believe the sports editor. It would take one minute to update stats and it wouldn't require taking down the original to do it. Whatever the case, for those who have not read it, the original IS back online.

Hate to keep posting about a negative story, especially with the '07 UWO team undefeated. Just thought you'd like to know the latest.

Didn't know it worked that way! It almost makes too much sense for it to be $7 for one game.

I take it you asked someone. What did he or she say? It wouldn't seem very hard to know when the women's game is over to prorate the price. Knowing when the first game is over appears to be the toughest (only?) hurdle. Well, that and knowing how much a single-game ticket costs, but ...

My school can be pretty funny sometimes. Let me know the next time you're in town. If you get there about 15 minutes early, I'll do you a solid. Seriously.

We should be treating our guests better than that, especially repeat customers, like yourself, who don't get all yelly and disrupt the silence.

I never expect it otherwise either, Downtown.  ;)

Just got back from A LONG DAY in Platteville.  Left at 7:30 this morning and just got back.  Had problems with the connection to the station, 9+ hrs in the car (due to snow) and two losses were not my kind of day.  The mens game was a heartbreaker.  Bad officiating down the stretch put RF in a little bit of a funk (i am not saying it lost RF the game).  And Shaw had a huge day but the reason UWP won the game was the shooting by Curt Hanson in the last two minutes (0-6 from 3 to start but 3-3 in the final mins).

This was one of the ugliest games I think I've seen in quite some time.  My wife called me in the first half because she was going to meet me there, but said she wasn't going to make it.  I told her probably a good thing since at that point the score was 12-15 RF with 3:30 left in the first half.  Seemed like Platteville was playing the Eau Claire game all over again.  Throwing passes to where they thought guys might be, or should be, or to the Falcons all together.  UWP 13 TO's in the first half, but ended with 18.  The shooting percentage is slightly skewed for the Falcons in the second half as UWP switch to a 3/4 court press and allowed some easy, uncontested layups.

This game was most likely one of the worst officiated games I've watched or taken part of.  The officials had no control of the game, what so ever.  First time I've seen or played in a game where I can not remember when there was NOT a blocking foul called on the defense.  Players adjusted to the point where they were falling before contact and still getting the player control foul.  Ironically, it was Jeff Skemp taking a charge with 1.7 seconds left to help seal the win.  The officials were not calling obvious fouls on either team.  Guys trying to rebound, but arms were wrapped up, so they couldn't even get off the floor, or attacking the basket and being bodied or hammered when the shot went up.  This was both sides, as I was calling fouls on UWP a ton when Falls was getting contested layups.  At one point in the second half, I believe Platteville was pressing, the ball handler made very little contact, UWP defender goes to the floor.  Official blows the whistle, thinks for way too long like...I should't have blown my whistle right then, now I've got to make a call....makes the player control foul.  UGLY!!

But a win is a win, and in this league...we'll take it.

Well, the attendence is getting better, with a steady increase per home game (from 555, to around 600, to mid 600's, and now mid-700's), and they are averaging about 650 a game.

Now, when you consider that Kolf seats 5,000, well...it doesn't look that great.

My guess is that it'll be around...200 for Saturday's game.

2008-09 Classic in Southern California.

Cal Lu/Caltech Classic.  On the weekend of Dec 20th-22nd, 2008.   One day of competition at Caltech, one day at Cal Lutheran.

Needed: one D3 team needed to join Lawrence in playing both California Lutheran Univ. and Cal. Tech in a "Classic" format.

Please contact Rich Rider (Head Coach, CLU) at 805-493-3404 or email him at rider@clunet.edu

Another opportunity to beat up on Lawrence! lol :-)  Better use of time than just going out to play ONE game against Cal. Lutheran!  :D

Well, for once I was actually right when I said Oshkosh would probably crack the poll somewhere between #12 and #16 this week.
-Oshkosh enters the poll at #13, and even received a first place vote... :o
-Stevens Point moved up a spot to #4, and received five first place votes.
-Whitewater dropped five spots to #11.

Now the question is are they over-rated?  Remember, they have yet to play a road game in WIAC play, and both of their "marquee" wins (Elmhurst-#21 and Whitewater-#11) were home games.  The month of January SHOULD tell us a lot about this years Titan team.  Starting January 5th, Oshkosh will play nine games, with seven of them being on the road (@ Point, Superior, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Lawrence, Platteville and Stout.)  Their two home games are Platteville and Point.  That is a brutal stretch for the Titans, and barring any unforeseen injuries, if they can finish that trip 7-2 or 6-3, there would probably be a few happy Titan fans.  (Not that they would show up and watch the games anyway. ;D)

Getting a first place vote is quite the surprise. Would that be a WIAC SID picking Oshkosh #1???

I totally agree with you, cubs, that road stretch will make or break Oshkosh. If they beat Augustana on Saturday, would not be surprise to see them even move into the top 10, and probably gain a couple more first place votes.

But don't get me wrong, I don't think this is the best team in the nation. It's a very good team, with a totally different personality from the previous three seasons. Which is a good thing, a good thing that is working and winning.

Also, if you haven't gotten the chance yet, you should listen to the interview on the front page. Amazing, truly amazing.

I was surprised that Viterbo stayed with Point.

We play in a tournament at Wittenberg College in Ohio.  There is a chance that we will play my alma mater, Olivet College of Michigan, in the second game.  I'd like to go, but it is a long trip, and I have business here.

Besides, Brian wimped out and refused to go with me.  ;D
