I have not see all the conference teams play yet, but from the ones I have seen I'm going to put Jake Smith in there from Superior.  Good combo post player who can finish inside and hit the outside shot.

Who is "freshman of the year" in the WIAC so far?

Maybe Schrimpf at Oshkosh?

Ryan Shea.  Here's my case:

Amongst Freshman
4th in scoring (3 way tie for first and only 1.2 ppg behind)
1st in rebounds
2nd in assists
1st in steals
1st in blocks

The impressive thing about him in my opinion is that he is leading in rebounds and blocks from the guard spot.  I don't know if there is another freshman who means as much to his teams as Shea does.  Oshkosh would win without Schrimp, Superior isn't winning, and I don't know if EC would be winning as much without Shea.

Good choice.  Like I said I haven't seen him play, but when UWP was playing up there I wanted to reach through the radio and grab the back of his jersey to slow him up a little bit.

I was surprised that Viterbo stayed with Point.

We play in a tournament at Wittenberg College in Ohio.  There is a chance that we will play my alma mater, Olivet College of Michigan, in the second game.  I'd like to go, but it is a long trip, and I have business here.

Besides, Brian wimped out and refused to go with me.  ;D

I listened to the game for a bit.  Point was up by as many as 22 points, but faltered a bit at the end with some subs.  Pete Rortvedt is out this whole week after having a procedure on Monday.  I didn't hear the end, but Viterbo was making a bit of a run (cut it to about 12 with 6ish minutes to go?).  They actually cut it to 6 in the final minute.  Perhaps the subs went in a bit too quick, I'm not sure!

Stout gives up 62 points in the 1st half and ends up losing 99-84 to Finlandia.  What in the world is going on in Stout?

Point is up by about 20 over Edgewood late in the game

Apparently Finlandia plays better street ball than Stout! lol...sorry guys.

Point won 77-59, I think...but they were only up by 3 or 4 at half time.

I was actually thinking about this week and maybe I'll put up a poll with some stats on it.  Shea looks great and I think Dan Culy would also be in the running along with Jake "The Snake" Smith.

Stout/Finlandia boxscore....  For the Stout game, something that actually impresses me, even for a loss, is that they had 20 assists in their 33 FGs.  At least they are passing and Webb and Mason combined for 18 FGAs!  Maybe Coach A is getting into their heads now.  They lost to Finlandia, but I still think it's a step in the right direction.

The MIAC board has Carleton defeating UWL in OT.  I was following the live stats but it froze up with 2:30 left in the 2nd half.  UWL had a 5-point lead at that time.

RF dominates Crown 79-34.

It was never really close... it took Crown 13 mins to break 10 points.

Good game in St. Paul tonight as Northwestern beats Superior 86-73 with the final score representing the largest margin.

Superior's freshmen are very talented, though I don't go quite as far as the NWC SID did when he called them the "Fab Five" in the gameday program.  Look for the Yellowjackets to win a few more games this year than last as they surely seem capable.

Greek Tragedy

Superior's freshman guard, Dan Culy was hurt in the previous game and didn't play.  Not sure how much that would've helped, but he's a pretty good player, averaging 17 a game with over 3 assists, among other things.  Solid player that was missed.

At least RF did not sink to the level of Crown in their win. 12 guys had double figure minutes and the 13th guy had nine minutes. The score was 37-14 at half.
Danny Johnson, freshman from Stillwater, MN, had 12 on 4/6 threes. Davis and Hannigan, another freshman, had 14 each.

I'm not surprised Stout got beat at Finlandia. Finlandia looked decent in RF, even tho the Falcons played their poorest game of the year. Stout allowed 99 points as one Finlandia player had 32.

How good is Carleton this year? I see they are 8-1 now...

I saw Carleton beat UWL tonight.  They are pretty good.  Good inside game, tough defense, excellent outside shooting.  Although both teams were weak from outside the arc.

OTOH, I don't think La Crosse is all that good this year.

Any status on this?  Extent of injury, length out?  He is a huge piece to the puzzle there.  Not expecting UWS to set the conference on fire this year, but they can cause some anxious moments for some of the experienced teams.
