Superior's freshman guard, Dan Culy was hurt in the previous game and didn't play.  Not sure how much that would've helped, but he's a pretty good player, averaging 17 a game with over 3 assists, among other things.  Solid player that was missed.

This kid can stroke it from beyond the arch and he's got Rortvedt range.  His absence would hurt the YellowJacket significantly.

After reading the Mitchell Report, and the players in it, I'm glad there is D-III Basketball to distract me from it.

I love baseball, and it's by far and away my favorite sport. Today, the little boy in me is crushed reading some of the names in the report.

Another sad day in sports.

QuoteAny status on this?  Extent of injury, length out?

Coach's 'newsletter' said Culy hurt his foot in the Finlandia game and will be back after Christmas. This on top of Roeder's shoulder injury hits Superior right where it hurts: talented freshmen slowed down. Roeder played against Finlandia and got minutes, but output (according to box) certainly makes it look like he's not 100%. The up side is that the entire team needs to be able to come together to try to fill the holes. Hill (with 20 points and 10 rebounds in Finlandia game) can't carry the load against WIAC teams. Jake Smith scored some nice points, but he doesn't have the depth of experience. Yet. Hill and Smith played 40 and 38 minutes, respectively. How long can they keep that up? Especially when they come up against a running team?

Doofus. I was reading the Northwestern box and attributing stats to Finlandia game (see above). Sorry; when I watch a game from the statistics, I tend to get confused.

I was waiting for our resident Superior fan to fill us in.  I'm being selfish since I have Culy on my fantasy team! lol...

As for the Mitchell report.  As far as I know, HGH wasn't considered a banned substance until 2005, right?  So, who cares if someone took it prior to that, when it was LEGAL (if I have my facts straight)?  That's like someone drinking when they are 19 when the age limit used to be 18...now it's 21 and we aren't like, "How, he drank when he was 19!"  OK, that really doesn't make too much sense.  Admittedly, I don't care for baseball, I don't hate it, but I don't love it.  I go to Brewer games for fun, but I really don't follow it much.  I think this whole steroids thing is only important if someone lied about taking it in front of a grand jury.  It was legal to take it in the past, so who cares?

Baseball is my favorite sport, too.

I'm somewhat atypical of sports fans.  I could care less about steroids, HGH, etc.  However, I agree that this report will likely have huge consequences.

Now I understand how Roger Clemens can still throw a baseball +90 mph at age 45.

I am a baseball fan as well (DODGERS) and this report is very disheartening.   What's worse is that without subpoena power and without the cooperation of the Player's Association Mitchell had his hands tied and the list of 80 is by no means comprehensive.

Great things happened in the 90's.  Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire's home run derby which ended with McGuire setting a single season HR record.  Eric Gagne's 84 consecutive saves made him the most dominant relief pitcher in the league.  Roger Clemens has a record 7 Cy Young Awards   WSJ writer Tom Oates summed it up when he wrote "this report is an idictment of an era of baseball."   None of it was real.

I am a huge baseball fan (TWINS!!) but what else did we expect from this.  You could also look at this way, steroids and HGH saved baseball?  After the strike of 1994 baseball was on its way down, but McGwire and Sosa and everything else that happened in the summer 0f '98 saved it.  It was baseball's fault for not testing for these.  As far as I am concerned chalk it up as a mistake and move on.

I also am a huge baseball fan (Let's Go TRIBE!), and I am more or less indifferent to the "findings" of the Mitchell report.  As far as I am concerned, it just demonstrates that professional baseball players use performance enhancing drugs at roughly the same rate as those who play football, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis, golf, fishing, poker, chess, contract bridge, Trivial Pursuit, hot dog consumption, and Scrabble, and considerably less than those who wrestle or cycle.  Big deal.

The Superior game story says that Culy has a fractured foot.  Not good.

Any thoughts on UW'Oshkosh's undefeated start for the season? Are they for real or will they fade?
