SP has the inside track in the WIAC. They have the mentality and game sense to win big games. Oshkosh lacks that concept.
Good thing California Lutheran wasn't a"BIG GAME"....... ::)

The WARHAWKS started fast and behind Rob Perry and ran to 21-2 lead before North Central got their bearings.  The lead grew to as high as 24 points before NC made a 10-2 run to close the half at 40-22.  WW shot 60% from the floor while NC shot only 25%.  The second half started like the first only in reverse.  This time NC was hot from the floor, particularly behind the arch, and the WARHAWKS had cooled down considerably.  Gradually NC started reducing the deficit until, with about 6 minutes remaining, they had whittled it down to 8 points, 61-53.  Enter Matt Goodwin who drained a pair of three-pointers, one turning into a four point play, and with a Rob Perry layup pushed the lead back to 18 points before one last push by North Central cut it to the final 10 points, 88-78.

Perry scored 23 to lead the WARHAWKS.  Goodwin added 21, Miles McKay 12 and Corey Vernon 10.  WHITEWATER outrebounded NC 33-21 and committed a season low 8 turnovers including only one in the second half.

NC was led by Reid Barringer who came into the game averaging 10 points but put down 28 to pace all scorers.  After going 0-4 from beyond the arch in the first stanza the shooting guard went 7-9 in the second half with an amazingly quick release and some of shots taken from a distance that would have made Pete Rortvedt say, "oh my god did you see where he shot that one from!"   He was feelin' it.

The best line of the night came from NC head coach, Todd Raridon, who while asking for a foul said, "We need all the help we can get...and I need another pizza with that order."

I like your rankings Old School, but i still would make the arguement that Oshkosh is #2 ahead of Whitewater.

Memo to Old School and all you SP guys:  Tune in Sat. morning to Western Wisconsin Sports Saturday.  WMEQ.com Click on "Listen Live".  Your old buddy Jack Bennett will be on at 8:15 and I plan on asking him for an update on all of the basketball Bennetts.  I was joking with him on the phone about how it was going with his family and he mentioned that some of our radio audience still probably think that he and his brother are still coaching somewhere.  I always tell him that I still blame his brother for all of the boring 32-28 games in the Big Rivers Conference that are still going on today.  We will also talk about just how good he thinks this WIAC conference is right now.  The WIAC  non conference records are taking a hit right now.  We were wondering about the influence of the doubleheaders.   Has it been good?  I'll ask him.

Ed Andrist will also be on.  I'll ask him about your rankings, Old School.  See what he thinks.  ???  Ed will be on at 8:05.

Shane Manor's HS coach told me this morning that Shane is really liking his Superior situation and that the last couple of games Shane is really starting to get comfortable.

I, for one, am glad to hear Shane Manor likes the situation up here. I hope all the new freshmen and returning players like it. Culy was described as having a stress fracture. Interestingly, in previous games he sat out, I believe he was in street clothes and a boot. In the last game, he was in warm-ups, a t-shirt, and basketball shoes(? not sure about that, but I don't recall noticing a boot) while Ben Lindberg, who had foot surgery, and Greg Roeder (protecting his shoulder?) were in street clothes. Is this the way injured players ease back into the line-up? Coaches have a step program for getting back onto the court: first you have to wear slacks, dress shirt and shoes (if able); next, you can get into athletic-type duds; then, although you may not be able to PLAY, you are allowed to wear a uniform under your official warm-ups; finally, you can take the warm-ups off...

Interesting ranking, OS.  There may be some turmoil within the La Crosse team.

Really?  You are required to tell us more now because you gave us a little nugget! lol.

So you had to dig up a quote from two weeks ago to take a shot at the Pointers?  I give you credit for the effort!  Nice shot! lol.  Duck now, here's a shot over your bow... They might not have thought Cal. Lutheran was a big game, but at least they beat Augustana ON THE ROAD...what did Oshkosh do against them at home?  Oh yeah.  Oops.  And Defiance?  Sorry, forgot to warn you about that shot.
;) :P ;D  I have no problem giving out some friendly trash talk.  Obviously a lot more will be said after Saturday's game.  I'm looking forward to it!

You make a good point considering Oshkosh beat Whitewater.

Sweet, I'll try to get up that early! lol...Oh yeah, don't worry about throwing me under the bus, I'll just crawl under it so Fast Eddie can drive over me.  Honestly, I like Stout (because of the guys and players I've met and even respect Ed), but they just don't play like a team at all.  Jacob and I had a real hard time watching that game in Oshkosh.

First of all, today was the first time I had been on in two weeks, so I had about 4-5 pages worth to catch up on.  It wasn't as if I was waitng for Point to lose to bring that up.

Anyway, the reason I made the reply is that a lot of people forget (or don't even realize) that there isn't a Head Coach in the WIAC who has taken a team deeper in the NCAA Tournament than UWO's Van Dellen (3-1 and Elite 8 in 2003.)  One would think that those were "big games" and they were able to get the job done.  If they "lacked that concept" one would think they would have lost much earlier in the tournament.

As far as more talk after Saturday's game, I would think that Point would be considered the favorite since they are at home.  If UWO loses, they are still tied for the top spot.  On the other hand if Point loses, they are two games back.  I would say there is much more pressure on Point than vice-versa.

Don't take my jibes too seriously, cubs, hence all the smiley faces.  Your argument on TVD and 2003 doesn't hold water since you know Bennett is gone now.  Besides, are there any PLAYERS that can make that claim now, no, they all graduated!  Come on! lol.  Besides, you're barking up the wrong tree, BBGUY said that, not me.  ;D

What does Bennett being gone have anything to do with with my comments about TVD?  All I said is that there isn't another WIAC Head Coach who has accomplished what TVD has in the post-season.  The facts back that up!!!!

Anyway, I'm not barking at you.....  I originally replied to BBGUY, and that was who I was disagreeing with.  The only reason I responded to you was because of your reply to my original comment.

Cubs, this is the quote I mean.  Are you saying there isn't a current head coach who hasn't taken his team deeper into the NCAA tourney?  YOu would be correct there, if that's what you mean.

I suspect that there are no active coaches in the WIAC who have shot more deer than TVD as well.  :D ;) ;)    That's just a bad joke from someone who couldn't help himself.

Yes that is what I meant........  I guess I should have put the word current or active so that wasn't any confusion.....

Mr. Downtown

TVD is a very good coach, but when Oshkosh has won the "big games", I often think that it was due to outstanding performances, rather than great coached games.

Then again, someone has to come up with the game plan, work on it during the week of practice, and encourage the players to stick with it. Even against inferior opponent Finlandia on Wednesday, TVD was still working the players hard, and that's a good thing.

Tomorrow should be an exciting day. I like the 5pm start, allows some of us Oshkosh fans to head back before 10pm.   (or allow some of us Oshkosh fans to enjoy the Stevens Point scene a bit earlier :D ;D)

Question, when does the ticket box open?
