I wasn't there FF, but looking at the box score a couple of things (other than what you notes) screamed at me too.  First, as I said before, it was the free throw disparity.

Now, in Point's two wins, they're 37/44, and their opponents (including RF who was 4/8) are 15/21.  In their losses, Point is 12/22 and opponents are 41/49.

Now... I wasn't at any of these 4 games, so I can't really comment first hand on the mindset of the players, but it seems like the teams attacking the basket and getting fouled more often are the ones winning.  It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow night, as Platteville is coming in averaging about 21 FT's per game to Point's 16.

Point has the disadvantage of being a more perimeter oriented team and settling for outside shots.  It's one of the reasons why they take care of the ball so well.  But, the downside is that they don't create the opportunity to get freebies.

Interesting that you would note that "perimeter game" that Point plays.  I remember your Coach Semling telling me on our Sat. show a couple weeks ago that he was very concerned about free throw disparity because of this Point teams tendency to rely on the outside shooting.  He mentioned that even though many of the perimiter shots you get are passes from the post, they still do not generate as many foul shots.

Thanks for the comments, PS and OS. I did not expect a win (picked that game as a four pointer), but was shocked at the score when I first looked at the live stats. Any team not ready to play from the opening tip when away from home can be in for a butt kickin', perhaps especially so at Quandt.

When I listened to the post game on the radio, Semling noted that a big strategy was to make a concerted effort to attack the basket and get to the free throw line.  It was quite interesting to hear, considering Point's MO.  I think he said that River Falls leads the league in FT attempts and Point was basically last.  Don't quote me on that, but it was to that effect where Point really needed to establish the inside game and get to the line.  That's what happened.

Beamish is one of the best at attacking the basket (on the team).  Matt Moses drove the basket a lot as well.  Yes, we still take our outside shots, but it's nice to see and hear that they are trying to make an effort to attack the basket, thus resulting in FT attempts, fouls for the other team and whatever else.

I noticed in the box score that Brian Hunter got 19 minutes which is a lot for him this year and Matt Goodwin played the full 40 minutes.  Those two guys and Jason Berry are the ones that will take Koski's place at the point.

I'm not sure what's up with Kevin. If he wasn't injured it's most likely a match up issue.  Kevin has been doing a good enough job but like everyone he has his limitations.  Matching up with much quicker players is one of them.

I suspect Myles McKay will continue to come off the bench because of the offensive lift he gives us when he does and the fact that Kori Vernon has been playing well since the change.

Hunter or Berry will never replace Koski, Goodwin, well only if Miller chooses to play without a point guard. Not sure of anyones injury status but if Hunter continues to take minutes from any of the guards--WW will finish no better than 4th. I agree Mckay off the bench is a great idea--offense is what he provides and a spark off the bench is a very big plus.

It looks like Dan Tillema may have transferred to UWO from Minnesota-Duluth.  He was third team all state last year at Randolph, and was off to a good start this year at Duluth before leaving.  I believe he would be eligible to play right away for the Titans, but don't know if he will.  If he does play, that could be a big help the rest of this season and the next three.

Greek Tragedy

Interesting news.  I don't know of him, but that would add much needed depth.  Is he a guard, forward, big center?

The Tillemas' are a great basketball family, his brother plays at UWGB and I've been able to watch them play AAU ball at Stout over the years.  Very smart, fundamental player and would be a huge pick up for UWO.

Whoever put that last score  on there was drunk! Titans did not lose, or at least I'm not sure what happened. When I hit live stats on the WIAC site, up comes the Plat/Titan score and I got a little excited! It could happen to anybody! C'mon!

Titans lose 87-72. That's the right score (I think).

Wish it were. Turn that around; Supers lose.

Supers were outrebounded, outshot, out-bodied under the basket, out hustled. Outscored. But, other than that, they matched up pretty well. I think we matched up pretty evenly on height.

Hill closed his eyes four times and got three'd every time. Perhaps more. I got in late.

By the end, I thought it was fortunate we were within 15.

The youngsters got schooled tonight.

Yes, he has transferred to UWO, and will begin practicing with the team, however he WILL NOT be able to play this season.  The WIAC has a rule staing that if you particapte at another school in the same season, you are not eligible to play until the following season.  Now if he had transferred to say Ripon College, he would be able to step right in and play right away.  Still, this is a nice pick-up for the Titans, who will still have his servics over the next three years.

Mr. Downtown

I see the Pointers won by 3, thanks to Beamish, who hit the game winning three with seconds left.

It says Skemp only had 3 total rebounds. Please, somebody tell me that's not true.

Also, tough loss for EC, had a good chance if they pulled off the upset, to be in position to put themselves in the race, but now fall back in the pack. Probably will have to fend off Superior and La Crosse for the 5th seed the rest of the season.

I'm getting more impressed by Whitewater after every game. W's at EC, RF, and LAX are huge confidence boosters, and they will get those team's at home for the second half of the season (and have the chance to make up their one L vs Oshkosh too).

It's just that Point's win over Platteville ,I think, will spark the Pointers to start making their run. It just has that feeling that it's inevitable .
