Old School,

Ok, I get the point, you think Jason Kalsow was a great all-around player.  But do you think he was better than Jackie Moon of the Flint Tropics???

Bench decorum was a point of emphasis with WIAC officials this season.  I don't know if it's a broader NCAA thing or not though.  But it is in our league at least.

It is supposed to be across the board.  That's is why Mike Deane at Wagner went with the seat belt on his chair.  They showed it two weeks ago on College Gameday.  Quite funny.  It's kept his technicals down, but the players said he still can yell just fine from the chair.

Seatbelts, then muzzles? And for those who know American Sign Language, straight jackets?

At what point does a screaming coach become a detriment to the team? Screaming positive vs screaming negative might have an advantage, assuming the players can hear it. Women's coach at Stout just yells at the players on the bench. My daughter told a story about T screaming, "Why can't you people do...(something; fill in the blank)?" and her response, to herself of course, was "I can't DO jacksh*t from the bench."

Wouldn't you love to have a ticker-tape of responses running through players heads? Talk about Hallmark moments.

My predictions of how it will all end up

Platteville over River Falls
Point  over Eau Claire
Whitewater over La Crosse
Oshkosh over Superior

Second round
Oshkosh over Whitewater
UPSET: Point over Platteville

Setting up: Point @ Oshkosh

At least with my imagination, I don't think this past Saturday's match up was the last time that Oshkosh and Point faced off at Kolf.

And Oshkosh wins again, 73-60, and again, Point will never had the lead in the game.

WIAC teams in the Tourney: Oshkosh (Auto), Point, and Whitewater both with 6 losses

Snubbed: Platteville, with 7 losses
Remember this statement?

"I've seen Oshkosh take this road, and I've seen them go the way side for the big games."

Now you are picking them to win the conference tournament?  I would think that would include some big games wouldn't it? ::)

UWO loses to Lawrence, and you are writing them off, saying it wouldn't surprise you to see them be at 6-4 in the WIAC come next week.  Now they beat the Pointers and you are predicting them to win the Conference tournament.  So which is it??

Just be careful that you don't break an ankle jumping on and off the bandwagon....

Cubs look at the schedule.  And...also look at the other predictions i've made.

I said Oshkosh will lose their two biggest games remaining, @ Platteville and @ Whitewater. Games that if they want be the solo WIAC Champion, they will have to do.

And, it looks favorable for Oshkosh right now for the Conference Tourney. They wouldn't have to play Point nor Platteville until the Championship game, and if they play Point at Kolf their chances are better. If they would have to go to Quandt in the second round, or play Platteville, I don't like their chances. Oh, and if they would have to play Eau Claire in the 4/5 seed, not a sure thing to the second round.

After Wednesday night, the toughest part of the schedule for Oshkosh is over, and they will either finish 6-6 or 7-5 during that run.

Also, they are a whopping 6-5 against teams that .500 or better. That's not a very impressive record for a team that's in the top 25.

Oshkosh has the smoothest last 4 games of the season of the top 4 teams, so I expect them to make a late run at the end.

Here is the Wagner piece.  I don't think any of the coaches are this bad.  It is comical though.  Big shout out to my boy Pugs.  He's the Ryan Braun look-a-like assistant coach there at Wagner College.

You also said that th odds were not in Oshkosh's favor in sweeping the Pointers, and we all know how that turned out.....  ::)

Janesvillebb....Next year at this time that freshman intermural team contending for a conference championship.

Interesting---The 5 starters from Saturdays 31 point win over Sup all return for WW--All 5 starters on PLT return--4 out of 5 on both Osh and Point return--Did I miss something or is there a conference realignment coming?

Actually, Whitewater will be returning all 8 starters next year.  5 players and 3 refs :D

I'm carrying this over from another post I had on the UAA page when they were talking about bench decorum...:

Here is my one complaint about the game and about coach Mcgrath. It is okay to scream and try to get your teams attention but it should be done with in the confines of the rules. I have read multiple articles online, in SI and ESPN about the refs at DI giving out more bench fouls than usual this season for coaches being our of their "box". Coach McGrath was out to the three-point line at times with not even a warning. Actually I have another complaint, there was a foul on Brandeis on the inbound pass before it went out of bounds and before time expired, this was called but then ignored, I'm pretty sure if the foul occurs and you call it you can not just decline it like in football. I am sure I will lose some karma for these comments but I think I needed to put it out there. People will act like the refs should/do favor Brandeis at home, but that simply is not the case as it seems most have a grudge against Coach Meehan.

This (bench decorum) is a "point of emphasis" this year in college basketball on all levels.  I know of one game where it may have affected the outcome... in the UWSP/UW Whitewater game earlier this year, there was a bench technical called with :20 on the clock and a 4 point game.  Coach Semling (who usually is very level headed) reacted to a foul call by jumping in the air.  Now, I wasn't at the game, but BadgerWarhawk (the resident UWW poster, who works at the scoring table for UWW games) said this:

The technical foul was on Semling for jumping up and down while he complained about the call.    It was a very intense moment and bench decorum is a point of emphasis with the league officials this season.  El-Amin probably could have gotten one for spiking the ball like he did but he didn't.

As it were in this game, Point shot themselves in the foot by missing 5 straight free throws and a layup.  They should have been LEADING (with no need to take gambles for steals and have a foul called).

If the NCAA wants to clear up bench decorum, they need to do one simple thing.  I'm not sure about elsewhere, but the Illinois High School Association used to have a rule that coaches couldn't get up off the bench.  If they stood up, they got a T.

I don't know how much the NCAA REALLY wants to clean up bench decorum...  Because the lines are still pretty fuzzy about what is inappropriate enough to earn a technical.

Maybe it was the refs fault that UWW outrebounded Superior 55-36.  Warhawks highest rebounding total in a game since 12/5/98 vs. Stout.

Of course! What other possible reason could there be?
