Here's one for you really old schoolers.  Back in the day the Norske Nook founder's wife was a guest on the Johnny Carson show and she and Carson did a little pie baking segment.  I remember the high point of the show was her slapping Johnnie's fingers with a spoon because he was not doing something right.  Great bit.

Though Platteville won by 11 today, they were not impressive. At the moment, RF probably is playing the worst bb in the league; today, however, they were a notch above their  performances in the last three games. Though it's hard to get a line on a team from one game, I would say the Pioneers have less talent than either Point or WW. (I have not seen Oshkosh.) They looked especially vulnerable against the press in the last five minutes. Their record may be a tribute to the coaching staff for getting the most out of what they have.

Miller had a monster night for Oshgosh tonight as he goes for 29 in a win... not only was he making 7-13 from three but had some long three's.

Bold statement, and I disagree. Watching a top WIAC team play River Falls right now, or Stout all season, is bound to be uneventful. A team like Platteville can beat those teams playing far less than its best.

I think Platteville has the second best talent in the WIAC after Oshkosh. I only say UWO because I think the Titans have four players who would start on any team in the league. No other team can say that.

Too bad the NCAA doesn't play 4-on-4 with no subs ...

OshDude

Any way UWO clings to the lowest tier of the Top 25? UWO has had the most losses among the Top 25 over the past few weeks, I think. But one too many 1-1 weeks for this week's pollsters, I'm afraid.

Well, Mayor Fred, we are the only two guys left to ponder this question but which one of us is going to sneak into the conference tournament?  I realize this is not the matchup that the entire world, state, conference, western Wisconsin, or possibly a few farmers living on state highway 29  are going to be pointing toward, but the big game of the year is now Feb. 20th at your place.  I'm thinking the winner moves on and the loser goes downtown after the game and buys beer for said winner.  What do you think?  I'll bring Dave Decker and Mary Jo.  (Very old inside joke)

I watched Oshkosh for the 2nd time yesterday and thought they looked pretty darn solid.  Miller was awesome, Marsh took over in the 2nd half, and their post guys were pretty decent, I thought.  Had an interesting conversation with Bob Burnell (WOSH) radio guy.  He said that this Oshkosh team was one that was always just setting up Oshkosh folks for the next disappointment.  I tend to think the same thing.  They are capable of winning the whole thing but you just don't get the feeling that it is going to happen.  Regarding the "big four", Ed Andrist told me that he thought that WW had the most talent, Platteville had the best team, and that he rated Oshkosh third and SP 4th if he were asked to rank them.

OshDude, you may be right, but I did not see one player who played like an all conference candidate, including Skemp, who had four inches on any Falcon starter. I'll have to see what the Titans look like when they play here. Evidently, tho, Platteville played down to RF both games.

stoutguy--sounds like a good idea. I won't be picking the Falcons anytime soon unless they show some signs of being more competitive  for 40 minutes than they now show. Reese probably won't be back, so they have no experienced player at point guard. Koonkaew will have an operation Wednesday and will get a medical red shirt year. His loss was key. When a lack of good shooting is combined with a near league-leading average turnover rate, you don't win many games.

When did Eric Hostetter join UW-Stout?  I saw him play high school/AAU ball in MN & he was a tough, hard-nosed larger, 6-4 PG.  Potentially, I think Hostetter could develop into a very tough college basketball player as he has a good skill base and a great feel for the game.  I also see that Stout has him listed as a FY.  He must have sat out a portion of his FY year at Winona State as he graduated 2 years ago in 06.  Now, if Stout could pick up a few more quality recruits, they could accelerate their rebuilding process for next season?

If this squad doesn't win it all, it's in no way as big of a disappointment as the past two seasons have been.

Bob is right, Oshkosh fans need a team to stop lifting hopes up for nothing. This might be the year, or next year, but for us Titan fans we always said that about Capelle and Gibson, and that never did pan out.

Especially if they have to face off with Platteville again in the conference tourney.

Regarding the top 25, this might be the week that Oshkosh gets knocked out. Another double digit loss to a team ranked higher than them, and beating (no offense) a pretty weak basketball team.

If they stay in, I think its going to be in the 24-25 range. If they get knocked out, it might be a slight wake up call for the guys who have been playing 7-6 basketball the past 13 games.

Hostetter joined the club at semester break.  I like him too.  He has a pretty quick shooting trigger so I don't know how that will all sort out this year as we only use one ball in this league and our team has had a bit of a problem with the "no I in team" concept.  I hope he has a good experience as Ed had to work pretty hard to get him out.   When he first got here, he wasn't sure if he wanted to play.  If we could get Kraft (another Winona departure) to give up that baseball thing, it would make a pretty nice start to a new beginning at Stout.
