This weeks regional rankings are out:

West Region
1.  Wisconsin-Whitewater  21-4  19-4
2.  St. Thomas (Minnesota)  21-4  19-3
3.  Occidental  20-4  13-3
4.  Wisconsin-Stevens Point  20-5  18-5
5.  Buena Vista  20-5  16-3
6.  Cal Lutheran  20-4  16-4

Last week's rankings

West
1. UW-Stevens Point 19-4 17-4
2. St. Thomas 20-3 18-2
3. Occidental 19-3 12-2
4. UW-Whitewater 19-4 17-4
5. Cal Lutheran 19-3 15-3
6. Buena Vista 19-4 15-2
7. UW-Platteville 17-6 15-5
8. UW-Oshkosh 17-6 14-5

With St. Thomas, Occidental, Stevens Point, Buena Vista and Cal. Lutheran all losing last week, I'm really surprised that Platteville didn't move up at all.  I thought for sure they'd move ahead of Cal. Lutheran and Buena Vista with their win against fellow regionally ranked Stevens Point last weekend.  Granted, Cal. Lutheran lost to Occidental, but it was still a loss.

With that being said, there isn't any way Platteville is getting a Pool C bid.

I'm unclear on the details. Does this mean that if I go to a WIAC game the league will do my laundry for me? Or will I have to put my dirty clothes in Phoenix Rising's laundry bag in order to get the WIAC to foot the laundromat or dry cleaner's bill? ;)

Greg, there isn't much chance of dry cleaning.  We're public institutions without gazillion dollar trusts.  ;)

I certainly wouldn't object if the taxpayers of the state of Wisconsin footed the bill for my laundry if I were to attend a WIAC game. However, given that I am a FIB, I shudder to think of what they might toss into the washer during the spin cycle.

Congrats to Whitewater and Point for locking up NCAA bids.

I hope Whitewater is at full strength so both teams can make deep runs and represent the WIAC like we know they can.

Not that it matters, it was 77-73.  ;D

HERE is the Point game story and boxscore link.  Too tired to post my own, maybe tomorrow.

OH YEAH:

There is a possibility that I'll head down to Whitewater for the women's semi-final game.

Two things:

1.)  What are the chances tickets to the men's final will be available tomorrow evening at the women's game.

2.)  If they are available, do any Point fans want me to buy them some?

Also, thanks to Pioneer Hoops Fan on keeping me informed on the Whitewater game.  I appreciate the updates and hope you have some kind of text messaging plan! lol.  :D

OS I would very much appreciate if you would buy me a ticket. I will in Madison until Saturday morning and would go straight from there to WW so not sure how we would work out the exchange, but....

Should be a good one!!!!

From the front page:

UW-Whitewater had a relatively easy time in its WIAC quarterfinal on Monday but got a battle from fifth-seeded UW-Superior on Wednesday before pulling away to a 77-73 win. The Warhawks caught a break when Superior called a timeout in overtime it did not have, when the game was 71-69 with 57 seconds left.

OUCH!

That's a tough way to lose.  Still, Superior opened a lot of eyes this season.

It sounded as though this was a less contentious game (than the January one in Souptown)--I heard Superior cranking about a non-call and Whitewater about a call. Does that about wrap it up for any game-time whining?

I know emphasis will continue to be on the players who were NOT in the game, and truthfully, it played a substantial part.  However, UWW was on its home court; UWS was not only 300+miles from home, but also five or six days removed from 'home'. Bus rides are hell, but extended motel stays aren't much better.

Where did the team practice all that time? How did arrangements get set up that fast?

I seriously hope UWS can pick up where it left off, and I hope Greg Roeder can get back on the court. He's skinny, but he's got some height, anyway. Jason Proue stepped up admirably to fill the spot. UWS isn't deep enough, yet. Maybe by next year, they'll have that taken care of.

During the off-season--rebound and FT drills. I'm willing to offer space in my house to players if they need a place to stay...

Is laundry service included in your housing offer?  ;D

I think the WIAC has it covered (laundry).

Quote"I think we're good," said Miller, whose team is No. 1 in the West region. "I think Point is good. I don't think either one of us needs to win to get in."
From today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

I think he's wrong, but there I go thinking again. Every year, WIAC fans study years of statistics to make a case for multiple teams to head into the big tournament, and every year it doesn't happen (my saying that of course means it probably will). Is it likely that Point and Whitewater will play on regardless of the outcome of Saturday's game?

Will Goodwin and King play Saturday?

I'm OK with this; logically, Hill figured he was going to lose the ball. Results likely would have been the same, other than a T getting slapped on the bench. Same destination, different route.
