well, I'd probably be going to both regardless.

It might be two.  I may have a guest coming.  I'll inform you later in the week.  Is there will-call at Whitewater...

UW-Whitewater will host a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship tournament regional Friday-Saturday, March 7-8 in Kachel Gym of Williams Center.  UW-W, 24-4, will play Loras College (IA), 21-6, in one semifinal at 8:00 Friday and Lawrence University, 22-2, will play Wheaton College (IL), 19-7, in the first game at 6:00.  The winners will meet Saturday at 7:00 in the regional final.  Tickets are $6 for adult general admission and $3 for students, which includes college students with an ID.  Call 262-472-2222 for ticket information.
They will hold the tickets for you at the ticket desk.

Mr. Downtown

I'm just curious on who is participating in the National Pick'em?

Good luck this weekend Warhawks and Pointers.

The problem with playing someone like Chicago is that they are smarter and richer than the rest of us.  If they beat us in sports, what do we have left?  That's how I felt when Carleton beat us this year.

Uh, Mr. D, UWSP is already going to be in the Twin Cities. Both the first and second rounds will be held in St. Thomas's Schoenecker Arena. It's in St. Paul, not Minneapolis, but I'll leave it to the Minnesotans to rap your knuckles over that gaffe, since they're really the ones who care about the distinction between the two cities. :D

That's not even to the Sweet 16 in which they can go against Augustana, Wash U., or Wooster. This is by far and away THE toughest Regional in the country.

You mean "sectional". The third and fourth rounds of the tournament are the sectionals. D3 doesn't use the term "regional" anymore, so it can be confusing to use that word in light of the fact that some people call the opening-weekend pods "regionals".

Pod. Can anyone identify the person responsible for calling these games pods? Is there any way to get that person fired?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

You would think that everything in D3, according to the NCAA, is related to REGIONALS, regional ranking etc...that it would be natural to call the 1st and 2nd round regionals, not pods!

Whitewater has shown that Point needs Rortvedt more than they need Perry.

It's a matter of seeding. The NCAA doesn't release the seedings, but Pat has figured them out and posted them in the past. Top seeds in each section usually get byes (e.g., Hope, Amherst, Plattsburgh State), and an occasional #2 seed (UMass-Dartmouth) will get one as well if that's the way that the bracket shakes out. The exception is the geographic orphans, who often have byes doled out to them to save airfares. That's the case this year with Whitworth.

No matter.   :P  All you really need to know about St. Thomas is that they handed D-II, No. 3 ranked Winona State its only loss this year.  The loss by Winona (now 30-1 on the year) was only its second in its last 89 games, with the only other loss being a last second loss in last year's D-II title game.

So, St. Thomas lost to Concordia-Moorhead, does that make Concordia-Moorhead better than Winona State too?  You gotta do better than that! lol

I don't even know if the Tommies will win a game in the tournament, but I still can't get over the fact that they beat Winona State in Winona.  It reminds me of the Chaminade victory over the Hoyas.  Had they beaten them last year, I wouldn't have been nearly as surprised because that Tommie team had an All-American (Rosefeldt) and 2 other All-MIAC performers (Schnettler and Keating).  The big 3 graduated last year and this was supposed to be a rebuilding year.  In fact, a number of folks (including me) didn't think they would be among the top 6 teams in the conference.  The Tommies appear to be successful because they are deep, they play hard, they play as a team and they have a good coach.

By the way, they also have a hot dog player by the name of Teddy Archer who appears to be the player that opponents and opposing fans love to hate.  He supposedly has talent, but he also has a reputation for pointing and strutting after dunks and for theatrical flopping on defense.  Even avid Tommie fans seem to be a bit embarrassed by his antics.

Damn right we do.  St. Paul is the nice picturesque city, the seat of state government, and full of tradition and history.  Then you have that craphole across the river....

Mr. Downtown

I missed the memo about "regionals" now being called "pods", and also that the sweet 16 and elite 8's are sectionals. Should have caught that one.

I think the only time I have ever been to St. Paul was two summers ago when I went to Rib Fest. It was a fun time.

Anyways, I'm sure anyone who has gotten up and turned on the TV today in the state of Wisconsin is already in a bummed out mood. After reading the AP reports, I don't think I want to be Ted Thompson right now. I'm sure people will have pitch forks outside of Lambeau Field today.

You know what's funny? The best QB in the NFC North going into next season will be Jon Kitna.

Don't brag too much about your side of the river larry_u. There is also a place called South St. Paul on your side. Had family there previously so I've seen it.  ;)  ;)  ;)
