I listened to a Dubuque feed on the game (quality of the Whitewater feed just sucked), and got the impression Loras has been behind by substantial numbers before in games. At halftime, the announcers didn't go into any kind of breathless, "what do we have to do to get back into this game" talk. As a matter of fact, ONCE one of them said something about having been in similar situations before and coming back and then they went into a Know Your Duhawk or something segment and asked a guy his favorite food, movie, book, etc questions. At the time, I thought it was pretty casual, but they either had a lot of faith in the team or a lot of faith in White to get them the win. Someone posted UWW relied too much on Goodwin's threes, and that's probably true. However, with the inside protected by "linebackers" and the three working in the first half, that probably seemed like a logical move. UWW women win; UWW men lose; UWSP women lose; UWSP men win; UWEC women win. WIAC is three for five.

Mr. Downtown

Mr. Coleman called it. Whitewater's experience in the National Tournament under Coach Pat Miller was not impressive and according to him, they would be the biggest disappointment in the sectional.

First, what a performance by Stevens Point. Down by 17-0!!!  :o  And they came back??

From that point on, the Pointers held Chicago to just 36 points the rest of the game. Did they thought the game was over??

I would like to say that now Point will be in the Sweet 16 against either Augustana or Wash U. (should be a great one), but after Loras knocking off Whitewater nothing is certain.

Here's a question for Mr. Coleman. No doubt next year the WIAC is going to be on of the toughest conferences in the country, with seemingly everyone coming back for each team. For Whitewater,  if they have a repeat season, do you think that the NCAA will take into consideration when it comes to seeding their performance this year? It would be hard to award a school a "pod" after they lose on their home court in the first round.

That's whats shocking me most about Whitewater's loss, I honestly thought the home-court would be too much for Loras.

From Old School's post, it sounded like they were playing in Oshkosh, not Whitewater last night.

Congrats to Loras.

#32 was unconscious and we couldn't find any way to defend him.  It was one of the best individual performances that I've seen in Williams Center since the kid from IWU lit it up against us two years ago.  The whole team seemed to feed off of him and shoot lights out.

It was tough no call on Goodwin's three point attempt at the end.   Then Koski nearly drains the last shot.  So it goes.

Despite the loss, on the whole, it was a good season with lots of positives.  To the seniors, Josh King,  Billy Hunter, Taylor Groth and Rob Perry, thanks for everything.  Good luck to all of you in the future.

Guess I jump on the Point bandwagon for awhile.

Good to see I got more minus karma for no reason.  Maybe if I said Loras played their best game and UWW played their worst game I would get some plus Karma cause that is obviously what happened (Loras is so lucky).

If karma on this site is your biggest worry in life, I'd love to be you.  Don't worry about it.  Karma is over-rated and in fact, I liked the old system when we "judged" each post with stars or whatever.

I think a defender in his grill would have been more effective.  Or a foul, but he prolly would have hit those too.

I thought Loras switching to zone was crazy, especially with how hot Goodwin was.  He was cranking up deep threes all night and hitting a few, but later in the game fatigue I think got to him, and fatigue was definately a part of WW's defensive display.

I don't think WW's defense when White or whomever was coming up the floor was too extensive for a couple of reasons.  1.)  I don't think anyone there thought they were going to shoot so early.  There was still some time left on the clock and you'd think they wait for the "last shot".  2.)  I don't think anyone thought he'd launch it from 25.  Nothing but net!

Anyway.  Zone slows things down and that's what exactly what it did to WW.  McKay and Goodwin were unable to penetrate and had to settle for long shots.  Loras seeme to stretch the zone out.  At the beginning of the game Goodwin was nailing 20 footers.  Then it became 22 footers and then 25 footers.  Yeah, you're gonna get tired shooting from that far out.

No one else stepped up for WW.  That needed to be done.  Experience definitely played a part because, aside from Goodwin and McKay, no one seemed to want the ball.  A guy would be open from midrange and dump it off.  You can tell by the boxscore with only Goodwin and McKay attempting more than 5 shots.  Loras played a great game and their big guards were the difference, and of course White.

The funny thing was, on the post game show...Miller said, "...and that "white guy" at the end..."

I was, "Uh?"...and that was before I knew the guy's name was WHITE! lol.

kolinske ends his career w/ a turnover and a "no hands up" on that three pointer by kyle something or other.

Great game by the Duhawks.  UWW4ever, where you at the game.  First off, Kyle White is his name and he owned every big man Whitewater had. And the 3 to win the game was with a hand in his face (actually probably touched White's hand cause he knocked him down after the shot, that is how close he was)  Very physical game but other than Goodwin shooting 7-14 from the three Whitewater didnt have much else.  I think I said Loras by 5 but I will take 71-70.  Great win for the IIAC.

Huh, what shot were you watching?  I'm not taking anything away from the shot or the player.  And I'm not taking anything away from Billy.  Nobody else could defend him either.  But he got a good look.  It was exceptional as it was there's no need to exaggerate.

Who is Billy Hunter????? ???

uww4ever

I didn't exaggerate.  My vantage point was skewed.  But seeing the play now and re-thinking, didn't mean to say how it was said.

I don't know, Rob Dixon rather then Billy Hunter.  Hunter I think was a few years back.  By bad.

uww4ever

What I probably meant to say was that Billy should have been in his grill from the start.  I think a smaller player with quickness would have done that.  Like Koskie and Goodwin, who played good in your face style all game.

It was a terrific game, don't take my posts the wrong way from what I was saying before.  I enjoyed this season like many others, just wish we could go further in the tourney and see how our team stacks up against the best competition D3 has to offer.  Good luck to Loras and Wheaton, whomever gets out of this "upset" pod.

Old School, you think that was good, try having a politically correct radio broadcast with our team when one of our guys is Brandon White-Blackmon. :D

Badger, while I dont think I was exaggerating that photo is not a great angle and was there no contact and did White not end up on the floor?? I was level to the shot and right at the 3pt line so I am just saying what I saw.  As we all know Sly and Cruise are not over 6'0 but you wouldnt know that from their films!

Pat  Thanks again for the candid comments on our show this morning.  Your take on the difference between the women's brackets vs. the men's brackets relative to good teams playing good teams too early was refreshing to hear.  I am going up to St. Thomas tonight to see if a WIAC school can carry the colors for awhile.

uww4ever

White did end up on the court after the shot.  Thought it could have been called but it was a no call.  A timeout after that to set up the play for Goodwin.

It's Brian Hunter, not Billy Hunter.  DUH!   That's my bad.

My comment wasn't direct at you UWW, it was directed at LC fan.  I left your portion of the comments I was quoting in because I meant to tell you that Billy Kolinski is a junior and has another year of eligibility remaining.  Earlier you'd posted he'd played his last game or words to that effect.

Ok, LC you go ahead and see the shot the way you will.  I'll let the picture speak for itself.  I'm going to drop it now because I don't want to take anything away from it, White or LC.  It was big time clutch and he was virtually unstoppable.  LC played with an intensity that we did not match.

Good luck tonight vs Wheaton.  Good luck to Wheaton as well.  It isn't the game I was hoping to be timing but that's the way it goes.

???  A bit premature to be having those kind of thoughts, don't you think?  Let's finish this year first!
