IIAC masters the WIAC... Buena Vista finished the sweep tonight, 54-53 over Stevens Point.  Point shot terribly tonight.  They were 31% in the first half, and had to be about 25%, if they're lucky, in the second half.

It's the end of a great career for Steve Hicklin.  I wish it could have ended a bit differently.

wow wouldn't have predicted that all three Wisconsin teams would be out already...

John Gleich

Wow... Point was 2-4 this year when they got to the FT line 10 or less times.  tonight, 4 times and Point lost.  If only Point could have penetrated and gotten to the line instead of just settling for open looks they didn't hit.  Point was SO close.  Point's defense almost overcame a 34% shooting night, but unfortunately they couldn't get it done.  The Semling said that Pete Rortvedt very well might have been able to be back for next week.  He certainly would have helped Point tonight, but it wasn't the hand Point was dealt.  They were good enough to win without Pete.

Marginal bit of controversy... under 1 minute, El-Amin hit a shot that was called a two that Kalif thought was a 3.  Point didn't score again, so it ended up making a difference, but Point had plenty of other missed opportunities earlier as well.  Great season for Point.

I heard that Griffin from Iola is leaning towards Point

Whitewater deserved the pod.  They were a good team all year, just didn't show for one game cuz Kyle White is pretty good player.

Saw the first half of Wheaton/Loras tonight.  Left when Loras was up by 3 but White was on his game again tonight.  Lots of 3s.  I think 24 of Wheaton hit a few too, but WW would have matched up a little better against Wheaton.  Each team relies too much on one guy, but darn it, the other guys make shots too when needed.  Too bad WW couldn't have had that last night when Mckay and Goodwin were covered.

I don't know much about recruiting and such, but a bigger small forward and more guards would help a lot.  Kolinske has one more year????  Thought he was a senior along with King.

Heard that on TV tonight, too. Saw Iola play 3x this season. Griffin played about two minutes of D in those games. Strong kid, though.

Athletic forward from Aquinas was going to Eau Claire, according to the state tourney broadcast.

I was at the Point game.  Despite the loss, I am becoming a Point fan.  Bob did a great job with some tough circumstances.  The big, thick kids inside were too much for Point but Point got great looks because of very good ball rotation, played great defense, but just could not hit shots.  Class group of young men and a great coaching staff.  This team will only get better and better.

I think everybody in D3 can say the same thing, so what's your point ??

Everytime the "Public Schools should go D-II because they dominate D-III" argument comes around, let us all bookmark this weekend, when 4 of 5 WIAC teams (including 2 at home) were ousted in the first weekend.

No point Roop.  But thanks for the reply.

I agree, Bill, but we also need to remember this weekend when we brag up our power conference. :(

Here's a question for Mr. Coleman. No doubt next year the WIAC is going to be on of the toughest conferences in the country, with seemingly everyone coming back for each team. For Whitewater,  if they have a repeat season, do you think that the NCAA will take into consideration when it comes to seeding their performance this year? It would be hard to award a school a "pod" after they lose on their home court in the first round.

They're not supposed to take past seasons into account. We haven't had a long track record of the return of the regionals to really know.

Remember next year the women get the first crack at hosting regionals if two teams from the same school advance. so even if the WIAC gets the shaft next March it's not really an indication.
