Here's an item on a playing opportunity for a UW-Stevens Point player:

The same link also has news on a recruit headed UW-LaCrosse's direction (a bit further down in the article.)

Today's LaCrosse Tribune reports that the AD's have approved a change in the Conference tourney to have only 6 teams, rather than 8 qualify. Final approval is up the chancellors.

So two teams would get byes in the first round?   Six is an odd number to have.  I can see seven with the one seed getting a bye but with six, if they all played, you'd end up with 3 winners.  I've never seen a set up that awarded byes in the second round so you would have to have two byes in round one to make it work.

6 teams make the playoffs in the MIAC. Top two get byes, 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5. #1 seed gets the lowest remaining seed at home in round 2 while the #2 team gets the other winner at home. Highest remaining seed gets to host the other winner for the conference tournament crown.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Seven would be a far stranger bracket than six.  The WIAC has used six in other sports.  Women's soccer comes to mind.  As mentioned before, the MIAC uses six.  I assume the goal is to give the #1 and #2 a better chance of winning the AQ, which I'd be in favor of.

I'm in favor of a 4-team tourney on Fri/Sat at the #1 seed.

There are 11 teams in the MIAC too, not just 9 like the WIAC.  The MWC has 10 with a 4-team tourney, the CCIW has 8 with a 4-team tourney.  I've never been a fan when the regular season is basically a 16-game chance to position yourself for a better postseason seed.

Looks like Matt Jones, former UWW b-ball player and 1st teamer, is in my softball league in Pewaukee!  Didn't look too bad, leadoff hitter.  I'm not going to post stats or anything but I thought it was interesting and probably a boring post since it is summer and UWW is not posting their recruits.

Coach Koebl was quoted in favor of the new format.

He pointed out that the top teams in the regular season would be rewarded by a first round bye.

The article also noted that upsets of the top two seeds by the 7 and 8 seeds have been relatively rare.

Bring the WIAC final four to the 6000 seat La Crosse Center. Plenty of good restaurants and bars, several hotels, and law enforcement personnel would be happy to know where all of us are for once.

If you're even keeping stats for your softball team, you're not drinking enough.
