I'm really hoping for Carroll and Elmhurst to both be "away"... I think Sem should schedule Carthage too in Kenosha...! that way I'll get to see 'em more often!

Platteville plays Carthage at the St. Norb's tourney this year.

On the Elmhurst page, the Point game's site is TBD and Carroll Univ. is tentatively scheduled to go to Quandt.  We travel to the Alex in Appleton vs. Lawrence this year.

How do you know that, Tom? Got an inside source in Lead City? ;) Both the St. Norbert and Carthage websites list the Nicolet Bank Holiday Tournament pairings as TBA, and UWP doesn't even have its 2008-09 schedule posted yet.

Nevertheless, if St. Norbert does schedule Carthage and UWP to play each other in the opening round of the Nicolet Bank tourney, it would simply illustrate Bill's point:

Carthage's president has made it very clear to their athletic department that they are not to schedule WIAC schools.  The only Carthage/WIAC matches you ever see are at neutral site, multi-team invitationals (like volleyball) and NCAA tournaments.  It's the old "they don't belong in D-III" stuff.

Carthage has no control over who the Red Men will play in the Nicolet Bank tourney. That's St. Norbert head coach Gary Grzesk's call, not Bosko Djurickovic's. My guess is that the fourth team in the Nicolet Bank tourney is a lesser opponent (Finlandia or a NAthCon team, perhaps), which would naturally lead Grzesk to schedule his Green Knights to play that lesser opponent in the opening round while forcing the WIAC and CCIW visitors to square off against each other.

Bill is quite right. As a matter of principle Carthage College President F. Gregory Campbell does not want his school's teams to schedule WIAC opponents.

I wondered the same thing, Greg.  After I noticed the post I also checked Carthage, St Norbert and Platteville's websites and none of them had it.   Of course OS is always 3-5 steps ahead of me so.....

You posted a dead link, Tom. It directed me back to the UWP main page, from whence I clicked on the UWP athletics page, then the UWP men's basketball page ... and there is no 2008-09 schedule listed there, just as there wasn't last night when I looked at it.

I don't know where Patrick Abegg got that UWP sked you referenced. Perhaps UWP posted one earlier and then took it down because it needed to be changed.

Interesting, it worked before...I even checked it several times to make sure it came up!

It had been working, I assume, since June 6...oh well.

The Red Men play plenty of teams from Wisconsin, PS. After all, we've been talking for the past two days about how the Carthage men's basketball team is going to the St. Norbert tourney in December, right? Bosko also has his boys slated to play Silver Lake up in Manitowoc. The Carthage women's basketball team played Beloit and Wisconsin Lutheran this past season, and it'll face Beloit again this season. The football team played Carroll and Lakeland last season, and it'll play Lakeland again this season. Last year Augie Schmidt's diamond Red Men played doubleheaders against CUW, Lakeland, and Marian, and this year they played doubleheaders against St. Norbert and Marian, and a single game against Lakeland. Et cetera, et cetera.

Just because Carthage won't play WIAC teams doesn't mean that the school won't play the teams from Wisconsin.

IMO everyone, except you I guess, knows PointSpecial and Just Bill, were referring to playing WIAC schools with their comments about Carthage, not Wisconsin schools in general.  But, +k for the effort splitting hairs.

Whew. Don't hold back Carthage. Wouldn't want you guys to strain yourself with the rigorous Wisconsin schedule.  ::)

Silver Lake? Seriously, you are using SILVER LAKE as your defense!

Speaking of non-conference schedules, anyone know how many times Finlandia is playing the WIAC?

Yes, the schedule is gone now.

As part of my schedule search process, I try updating the links that explicitly point at 2007-08 to 2008-09 and see what happens. In UWP's case, changing the "0708" to "0809" came up with a schedule, even though it is not linked yet from the main page.

My guess is that this schedule was not ready for prime time yet (hence its lack of a link) and has been taken down once they realized this (for all I know, because they saw it in my list here).

The UWP womens' schedule is still there, as of this post.
