Was listening to a radio interview with TVD. He said Schrimpf is out for the year. He also said Rortvedt (he didn't say which one – or both for that matter – but his tone seemed like he meant Pete) and Drew Jackson are not playing for Point this year. He added, in TVD style, that Whitewater added another top transfer or two, who were mentioned here already.

"It's been that way ever since I've been here," TVD said about WW. "Now they'll have four of 'em [transfers] out there."

TVD said he added a transfer of his own – John Henney.

EDIT: Come to think of it, TVD failed to mention Brady Borgardt. He talked about DJ, Dane, Matt Miller, Andy Kretsch, Luke Miller, Cory Wittwer and Henney. My expectations aren't too high if Brady and Greg are not playing. Could do worse than Matty, DJ and Dane, though. If you thought UWO starters played a ton of minutes last year ...

He is no longer with the program.....

Sounds like UWO will be going with an 8-man rotation, the seven guys you listed and the kid from Northern Michigan (his name escapes me right now) that transferred at semester last season.

Is Henney the kid that was at Platteville last season?

I recall TVD saying he was 6'6", 230 and from Burlington, so I'm 99.99% sure that's correct.

Greek Tragedy

There were rumors going around that Drew Jackson is no longer with the team.  I do not know why and I won't speculate.  That wouldn't be fair.  Another rumor was that PETE Rortvedt wasn't going to play this year because of his knee just not holding up.  As some may remember, I think he had surgery on it during the off-season last year and it effected him a lot last season and then he hurt it again in the WIAC tourney, I believe.  Citing unnamed sources, there might be a chance that his younger brother Ross wasn't going to play.  Not sure if that is true...and also El-Amin possibly not suiting up (maybe because Drew is no longer with the team?)...

Anyway, if TVD found out that Pete (probably) Rortvedt and Drew aren't on the team, the other stuff may not be true regarding Pete's brother and El-Amin since it wasn't mentioned.  Both will be big losses because Pete was such an driving engine for the Pointers, not only on the score sheet, but also because of his hustle and leadership.  Drew will also be missed because of his athletic ability and his spark off the bench.  Of course, there isn't anyone to call "Tayshaun Prince" anymore either! lol :-)

That's the Tillema kid from Randolph.  He left UM-Duluth at the semester last year.

Nope not him....

Tillema transferred from a Minnesota school.  The kid I am talking about transferred from a Michigan school.

I believe you are thinking of Steve Novak's little brother, but I'm not certain.   I know he transferred away from No.Mich or Mich Tech.

Nope....  Not him either.

I'll do some reseasrch and see if I can find it.

Found it.....

Steven Waudby.  He is a 6'10" Center from Marquette, MI.  He redshirted during the 2005-06 season, and has played sparingly the last two seasons at Michgan Tech.

Here is some background info on him:

-Helped Marquette Senior HS to 20-3 record and Great North Conference title in 2004-05
-Averaged 18 points and eight rebounds, and set a school record with 86 blocks as a senior
-Earned Class A All-State Honorable Mention laurels following senior season
-Named to the All-GNC First Team and U.P. All-Class Dream Team in 2005
-Helped the Redmen to an 18-3 overall record and Great Northern Conference title in 2003-04

La Crosse has an open practice tonight.  I plan to attend at least part of it.

So...you're trying out?  Good luck!  I hope you make the team.

Tom is being funny.  He knows that I'm 40 years too old, a hundred pounds too heavy, and 6 inches too short!

I did make the open practice.  There wasn't much to learn.  They have some size this year.  One JC transfer, I believe, and some big freshmen.  I think, because of the many experienced guards, they will run a three guard set, mostly.

Brian was there too, and stayed longer than I did.  Hopefully, he will post as well.

Greg Schrimpf is indeed out for the year. I talked to DSA about it the other day and he said they're gonna have a short rotation again this year. Luckily for Dane, they have two big men to give him rest (Waudby and Henney).

Also in talking to Jordan Johnson, it sounded like Borgardt and Kretsch are both not playing this year.

Without Greg Schrimpf, this team is gonna be the same as last year-tired come the end of the year because of a lack of depth.

However, I'll take the trio of Matt Miller, DJ, and DSA against most other trios in the WIAC. The question is will it be enough.

I think Superior will surprise even more people this year as they are a year older. Should be an exciting season. Can't wait for Media Day on Thursday to see what coaches have to say.
Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

Kretsch IS indeed playing this season.....  From all accounts, he is part of the 8-man rotation at this point.

Any noticable absentees from practices???  Any players from last year NOT playing this year for one reason or another?  I know Robertson transferred, right?

Robertson is no longer with the team.

My pre-season predictions for the WIAC...

1-WW
2-Platt
3-Point
4-Osh
5-Sup
6-EC
7-LC
8-ST
9-RF

WW & Platt could go either way and Osh, Sup and EC are interchangeable. I want to move Sup as high as 3, but I think the travel week in week out will take its toll on them.

Greek Tragedy

I'll ask again!  ??? Any reason for the scheduling quirk?
