OshDude, what's your take on the call to throw the baseball pass down 2 w/6.8 seconds left and noone guarding Luke Miller on the inbound and no double team/face guarding Matty to get the ball?

Good to see and chat with Champ and Blue Devil Bob at Stout tournament tonight/last night (it's post-midnight now, I guess); too bad Stoutguy didn't show up. We could have had a trifecta.

Super schedule coming up: Northland College; Platteville; Northwestern College; Whitewater.

If I hadn't seen them run that play to perfection two or three times already this year, I may have had a problem with it. It's a bit unconventional (and it didn't work this time, which is no small matter), but it's one of 1,000+ plays you can run there. I count it as one of those 1,000+ variations that just didn't work this time. I have more problems with the rebounding and some other stuff that led to it being a 2-pt game with less than 10 ticks left than that one play call.

The score was tied at 6-6 in the first half when WW went on a 7-0 run to take control and build the lead to a high of 14 points before the first half ended 47-34.   The second half was pretty much the same as Edgewood got no closer than 11 points and the WHITEWATER held them scoreless for the last 5 minutes of the game and pulled away to a final score of 89-63.   The WARHAWKS controlled the boards 38-24 and had 12 steals while turning the ball over a season low 12 times.  WW shot 55% for the game.  Myles McKay continued his hot streak with 25 points and also had 7 assists.  Kori Vernon had his best game of the season with 17 points and 8 rebounds.  Dustin Mitchell and Matt Goodwin also scored in double figures with 16 and 11 points respectively.

Things get tougher as the WARHAWKS travel to Naperville to face North Central on Wednesday night.

When did that play work to perfection? Luke Miller threw it off the scoreboard against Lawrence and gave them another chance. I don't know why you don't let Matty take it upcourt and get a screen and pop a 3 or let DJ drive and try and score or get fouled. I disagree mightily with the call, but you're right, there's many other things to nit-pick about this game.

The Pioneers cruise to the Championship in Hanover, Hanson gets MVP, Nick Allen Top Defender. Skemp and Shaw also receive all tourny team. Had a thirty point lead at half time and went on to win the game 92-73.

The WIAC is 28-14 up to this point (EDIT: updated with Stout victory), with Stout battling Minnesota-Crookston tonight.  LIVE STATS have the game tied at 52 with about 4 minutes left.

I would say that the WIAC isn't nearly as tough top to bottom as in previous years... looks like there could be quite a drop off between the three top teams (some of the best in the country) and the other 6.  Interestingly, only La Crosse (3-1) is over .500... and they were picked 7th in the league.  They'll have their work cut out for them, though... as noted by chmarx, they go to 5-0 Elmhurst (#17), host 3-1 Augustana (#2), then go on the road to 4-0 UWSP (#6), 2-3 UWEC, and 3-0 St. Thomas (#5).  Augie will likely have a bad taste in their mouths as the Eagles knocked off the Vikings in Rock Island last year.

Btw, Stout up 6 with 1:14.

Oshkosh, who was picked 4th goes on the road until January...!  They've got three straight road games in the league, at RF, at Stout, and at WW, then they go to Carroll, then off to Phoenix for a tournament (classic?) against SUNY Old Westbury, Christopher Newport, and Lewis and Clark, who's only blemish is a 10 point loss to WW.

Superior, picked #5, looks good... if they're playing St. Scholastica.  They've lost a couple of close games to Martin Luther (2-3) and D-II Minnesota Duluth (4-3) and they play their next 4 at home against 1-4 Northland, 6-0 Platteville, 3-0 Northwestern (MN), and 5-0 Whitewater.  now, Platte and WW undefeated is going to be different than Northwestern undefeated, I think... but these are the two longest trips in the WIAC and Sup is historically tough in these games (beat Platte in Sup last year).

Stout just won 68-63 to become 2-3

Sorry I missed you but I had to go to a Christmas concert with my wife.  It reminds me of the saying,  "I like to live in the fast lane, but I married a speedbump."  I did, however, see the Stout men and women win today.  Both teams looked pretty solid.  Stout men played well defensively, involved all of their guys in the offense (refreshing change from last year), and just didn't look like a last place team to me.  I think they may surprise some people.

BTW, Brian Carroll is having internet problems.  He hopes to be hooked in time to submit his picks for Saturday.

Here's what I see in Superior this year: solid wins over teams they should beat and stiff competition in the games they shouldn't win. They have a little depth now--although Ostendorf is sitting out this week, I understand, and he's been an outstanding additon. Jake Smith continues to be the workhorse; if only he were four inches taller...

Greg Roeder, our only height, looked weak at the beginning, but missed practices immediately pre-season with the flu. He seems to be catching up now. Culy and Manor need to get their rhythm to balance Jake and keep the opponents honest.

I'm very excited about the season. I'm hoping they end up a little higher than fifth. I'm almost disappointed that they aren't playing stronger non-conference games. They learn a lot going up against bigger, stronger players.

And, it's fun watching Dwight Hill; he has no idea he's not 6'9", 275 pounds.

Any Pointer fans know the schedule for Coach Sem's radio programs at the Hilltop this year?  I think the ones they've got on the website are wrong... they say they're on Mondays but all the dates are on Wednesdays... including the one in Feb the same night as the EC game...

PS, the radio shows from the Hilltop have always been on Mondays, but I'm not sure of the exact dates for Dec., Jan., and Feb.
