wpspencer22,   so you use the dribble drive!  Maybe I am showing my age......will someone please tell me who ever came up with the term "dribble drive" How in the hell can you drive to the basket if you do not dribble the ball???? Not really asking you wpspencer22 just venting about something that I hear that drives me crazy every b-ball season.
On the 4 out 1 in offense, easiest offense to learn. Spread out , set your screens and run your cuts. I think thats right we did that 40 years ago when I played.

Trust me, I have followed EMU as long or longer than most people on this board. Martin is a good player, but the statement of not being guardable is rediculous. George is hands down one of the best pg in the league and Martin is not on his level at this point. Therefore, Martin is the back-up. Don't take anything away from Martin, he is a solid player.  When he is in the game, you don't lose much at that position. Last year you lost everything when they made a substitution for George and put in D.J.   D.J has transferred out, and now Martin fills that role, and does a great job. But the non-sense of debating how good he is, or if he is guardable is irrellevant at this point, he is merely a back-up.!!!!!!!!   I'm calling this as I see it!! The royals are 4-0, and that is all that matters, and the true test will be in the fish tank!!!

Evidently, you can often drive to the basket without dribbling in the NBA, but that's another issue.  :)

"dribble drive," oh, you are talking about basketball ;D. It's a funny phrase, isn't it.

Guilford over Averett tonight in Greensboro, 81-56.  AU led 2-0 and 5-3, but otherwise it was all Quakers.  It was tight until 17-16 GC and then the Quakers went on a run to open up a 37-22 halftime advantage.  The lead was 31 in the second at 77-46 before the freshmen and sophomores finished it out.

Huge game for Sanborn with 19 points and 18 rebounds.  Tyler was 9/12 from the floor while Henson and Bonner had off nights shooting.  I think Clay had 12 and Rhett 8, but Gabriel Lowder chipped in 14 off the bench.  As you might expect, the Quakers won the boards by a 51-39 margin.

Pagentine and Hart with 11 and 9, respectively, for AU, but all in all the Cougars were outmanned tonight.

This b'ball stuff is becoming way too one sided. We need to get GC out of the ODAC so others might have an opportunity ... you know, redistribute the wealth so the not so fortunate have an opportunity to thrive !!!!

It is fun to watch the Quakers continue with its winning ways. Continued good luck and go win the National Championship this year. I'm pulling for you guys (except for when you play HSC).

Continued good luck and Happy Thanksgiving !!!!!

Hey, tfa.  I felt the same way when RMC, HSC and VWC dominated so much.  Where were you in 1999 when the Quakers limped home 3-21?  lol  I'll have to admit Guilford is loaded this year, but I think they could lose a couple against good teams, especially if the starting guards don't shoot better than they did tonight.   For what it's worth, we'll graduate a lot of talent in 2010, but I do think we have a very special team this season.  Trust me, I understand your thoughts about the Quakers and the Tigers - with any luck, I may make that game at Sydney!

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

I agree, jww - wish I could be there!  A tough four-game stretch is coming up for Guilford between now and Dec. 16: at NCWC, at VWC, at HSC and then Maryville at home.  We'll see how good we and others are over the next 3 weeks.  You have to love it!

I THINK THE LEAGUE BETTER WATCH OUT FOR WLU!  Very solid coach who has done a magnificent job bringing the program back with recruiting.  And nobody can say they have not seen a VAST improvement from his first year in how they come at you every night.  Great year last year, don't sleep on these fellas......more to come as they had a fairly decent trip in ohio.

GO GENERALS!!!

High Point University's story on their game with Hampden-Sydney is at http://www.highpointpanthers.com/news/2009/11/21/M-Basketball_1121095451.aspx?path=mbball

At this point in the season, the teams that seem surprisingly GOOD are:

  • Eastern Mennonite - very impressive win against Wesley
  • Randolph College- 5 wins and 0 losses, although no tremendously impressive wins yet . . .

Teams that look like they'll probably finish with a losing record in the ODAC:

  • Bridgewater - What happened at Southern Virginia?
  • Roanoke - 20 point loss to Frostburg State
  • Lynchburg - 2 losses at the Roanoke tournament does not bode well ... not that anyone's surprised
  • Emory & Henry

Most interesting games in the next week:

  • Nov. 28 - EMU (4-0) @ Virginia Wesleyan (4-0): Both teams could finish among the top 3 or 4 in the ODAC
  • Dec. 2 - Roanoke (2-1) @ HSC (0-1): Roanoke's wins have not been that impressive ... the Tigers will win this one if they're among the best in the ODAC
  • Dec. 2 - Randolph (5-0) @ RMC (3-0):  Randolph is going to win a lot of ODAC games this year, but can they compete successfully with the Yellow Jackets?  (I'll be stunned if they win this one.)

Welcome fellow Gennies fan. Someone alert Denbow's Roomie & tell him we have a 3rd musketeer! I like your enthusiasm. 5 years ago the freshman class had lots of promise & the team went 2 -23. I like what Hutch is doing. Keep up the good work. :)
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

Donho--

Good to see your post...Hope all is well with you!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Saw your post about the "dribble drive" offense...I am not an expert by any means on the offense, but there are definitive principles of the "dribble drive" offense, which is also known as AASAA (attack, attack, skip, attack, attack).  My brother-in-law is a high school coach outside of Baltimore, MD (Glenelg Country School) and they run the dribble drive quite a bit (or at last portions of it).  They have been very successful with it...Not only winning games, but also being able to recruit kids to the school to play in the offense.  My brother-in-law has been to numerous coaching clinics on it including visits with Vance Walberg.  Vance Walberg (Pepperdine University X-Head Coach and now an assistant with University of Massachusetts) was the "founder" and of course Calipari utilizes it as well. And the offense is predicated on "NOT" using screens or cuts to the basket, but on solely penetrating gaps with the dribble either for a lay up or for the ball to be kicked/skipped back to the perimeter for a 3 pointer or for another "dribble drive."  Not sure how "big men" get utilized in this offense?  And in order to utilize the offense one must have the right personnel with the right "dribble drive" skills.

Not sure who you were referring to as "using" the offense in your post, but is there someone in the ODAC now using this offense?  Or someone in the Virginia area?  High school or college?

Also...may try to catch a Yellow Jacket and VCU game in the last week of January or first week in February while I am home on leave from Baghdad.  Working in the U.S. Embassy over here since October and will be here until May (or so).  Yellow Jackets sound like they are playing well...Hopefully they will keep it up!
