Lynchburg defeats Bridgewater, 99-78 !! What is going on with the Hornets?!!  They've now got 6 wins on the season, with recent victories over Averett, Christopher Newport, and Bridgewater.  They're not supposed to win more than 2 or 3 games a season!   ;)

The Tigers get another ODAC win against Emory & Henry, winning 89-75.  Freshman Harrison George had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, 13 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and two blocks while not turning the ball over once.  Sophomore Ben Jessee also had 19 points, Turner King got 14 points and 7 rebounds, freshman Randall Ward netted 14 points, and freshman Alex Potapov scored 11 points.  I think our freshman class is the best in the ODAC and that Harrison George has to be seriously considered for FOY.
It's not business as usual in Lynchburg this season - makes me feel a little better about holding on versus the Hornets three days ago.  :)

69-47 EMU over RC at the Half.  Hinson with 20, Phillips with 15 and George Johnson with 11. For the Maroons, Matt Crizer has 11 and Melvin Felix 10.

R-MC gets a good win at home today in a packed and overheated gym!  CNU had some great ball handlers but there was just too much depth on the Jackets' team.

There was a charitable foundation fundraiser reception afterwards and we spoke with all 4 coaches who allowed as to how TOUGH this conference is.  Aren't we all so lucky to be part of such a great basketball tradition as the ODAC!

Congrats to the winners this weekend and GO JACKETS!!

Win or lose, EMU will see the best defense it's seen all year in the RMC Jackets.

I know RMC will most definitely show EMU the best D. it has seen all year! RMC is a great ball club. I am excited for the game, but very excited to see the royals doing well. Good luck to both squads Wed.

What's strange to me, is that we're even having a converation about EMU being in the top of the ODAC and a challenge to a RMC team or a VWC team or any other traditional ODAC power.  Kudos to EMU!

I agree but Kirby Dean and staff have been at it for years trying to build a team that has never really been much with the exception of 98 with Carey Keyes Odac POY. Other than that you have to go way back to the Leonard D. era.  Kirby had nothing and has built from scratch something solid.

Come on Jackets play some DEFENSE on wednesday!

I've been out of town for about a week and half and drove 600+ miles today back to Harrisonburg in time for the game this evening and the Runnin' Royals put on a good show for a packed house at the University Commons. First off, I want to congratulate Coach Dean and his staff on a great season to date. I know Coach Dean won't be completely satisfied until there is a Championship banner hanging from the rafters, but I'm just glad to see all of his hard work paying off with W's.

I was a little worried going into the game tonight against Roanoke. I was hoping the players wouldn't look past the Maroons with the RMC game looming next Wednesday. Nice job by the coaching staff to keep the players focused with the job at hand.

The Royals are a lot of fun to watch! They are so athletic and 13 players got minutes in the first half including 10 with at least 5 minutes! The Harrisonburg community (including about 5 current and past JMU basketball players) is definitely taking notice to of this squad as the gym was basically full on both sides without students in town until tomorrow. There is excitement around EMU, but I know how difficult this conference is and there are still 11 more conference games. Good luck and keep up the good work Royals!

In regard to the VWC at Guilford MBB game on Jan. 16, I've noticed several places on the d3hoops.com site where this is incorrectly listed as a 3 pm start.  If anyone's planning to attend (and it's shaping up to be a huge game!), it's actually part of a double-header with the men tipping off at 2 pm and the women, also versus VWC, at 4.  I hope there will be a capacity crowd - these squads deserve it!

Go Quakers!

Should be a good game in Guilford on the 16th.  VWC  and Guilford are well matched.  Considering last year was  a rebuilding year for VWC (17-13) and 7-9 (ODAC) ,I want to congratulate Coach Macedo and his staff for an outstanding year so far.  The Marlins are off to their best start in 42 years.  The next few weeks will be critical for the top  teams and I suspect we won't know until the ODAC tournament ends which teams will continue on to the dance.  The season is still up for grabs and I for one  won't count any team out yet.  VWC is my choice of course but I wish all the teams good luck.  The best is yet to come.

There is, indeed, a lot of basketball to be played.  With four ranked teams in the ODAC, what a treat!  And outside those four, there are several other teams capable of springing upsets (do you think RMC would want to play HSC in Fleet again?).  I also think it's a remarkable season when Randolph-Macon is ranked number one in the country, but there are at least three (and maybe five) other ODAC squads who aren't yet convinced they're even the best team in their conference.  The next six to seven weeks should be terrific!
