Nice post, bigrips77.  My lone dissenting comment would be about your statement that Randolph has proven they can "hang with anyone."  I realize it was only one game, but when they got down to Guilford 67-21 and eventually lost 78-42, the WildCats had decidedly not proven they could hang with the Quakers - at least on that one day.  We've got a second game versus Randolph in Lynchburg and, of course, you never take anything for granted.  Except for the earlier thorough beating, however, I would agree that Randolph has proven to be a very competitive team.

... Bridgewater pulls off another impressive victory.  Seems like things are on the up for the Eagles while Hampden-Sydney can't catch a break right now to the point where you almost want to chalk this one up as a rebuilding year for them... Roanoke badly needed the win they picked up at home over W&L to keep pace with the rest of the league... And congrats again to Lynchburg as the ODAC continues to have USA South's number this year in non-conf play.

Thanks for your good post, bigrips77, and I agree that Emory & Henry is the "lone guppy in a sea of sharks."

Bridgewater appears to be up-and-down, with the "ups" including a close loss to Virginia Wesleyan, close win over Hampden-Sydney, and big win over Roanoke, but the "downs" including  the losses to Randolph-Macon and Lynchburg by 21 points each time.  I was at the game and wasn't terribly impressed with any of the Bridgewater players other than Trawick, but the Eagles were scrappy and took advantage of a Tiger team that was shooting cold .... only 36% from the field and 62% from the FT line (as compared to hitting 50% from the field and 76% from the FT line in their last game before Bridgewater, when they lost by 2 points to Virginia Wesleyan at the Beach).

To say that this is a rebuilding year for Hampden-Sydney certainly makes sense.  HSC freshmen got 86 of the 200 minutes in the game against Virginia Wesleyan, and 82 minutes in the Bridgewater game.  That the Tigers, playing freshman to such an extent, have lost by only 1-5 points to #1 Randolph-Macon, #6 Guilford, #8 Virginia Wesleyan, and #17 St. Mary's suggests that this is a team that could win at anytime and should not be underestimated.  The big question is whether the "rebuilding" will occur fast enough to make things happen during the ODAC Tournament.  Hope so!

Final Guilford 96, Roanoke 62 in Greensboro.

Quaker Clay Henson went off for 30 tonight (24 in the first half!) in a very efficient 25 minutes versus the Maroons.  Number 11 was 8 of 12 beyond the arc and 11 of 18 overall.  With 19 points/5 rebounds, Tyler Sanborn did not double-double in 20 minutes.  For whatever reason, the ball just didn't bounce his way and he spent a lot of time during the meat of the game getting a cut closed over his left eye.  Freshman Josh Pittman continues to impress with 11 points and 5 assists in 22 minutes.

Greensboro native Parrish Walker (Dudley HS) was a bright spot for Roanoke with 15 points, but no other Maroon hit double figures.

RC was out of this game early.  Three treys put Roanoke up 9-8, but the Quakers went on a 15-0 run to go up 23-9 and the game was, for all intents and purposes, over.  After six Henson first-half three-pointers, it was 50-30 at the break.  The Maroons closed to 59-42 in the second, but Coach Palombo called time and then the Quakers were off to the races again, going on a 22-3 run (81-45).  From the 59-42 juncture, GC outscored RC 37-20 down the stretch.

Guilford substituted liberally and the depth chart 10-14 guys almost got the Quakers over the century mark.

GC improves to 15-1, 6-1, while RC falls to 6-10, 3-4.  The BC Eagles visit Guilford Wednesday night at 7 pm.

With 1418 points, GC Senior Clay Henson is closing in on the 1500-point plateau.  With luck (and skill), it may come in early February (sooner if he keeps shooting like he did tonight!).  :)

At his current scoring pace (and depending on how many games the Quakers get in the postseason), he's on track for 1600-1700 points.

New poll is out! Guilford 2, Macon 3, EMU 7, and Va Wesleyan 12. Congrats to all the ODAC teams!

The rankings are better than I thought they'd be, especially for R-MC.  I figured they'd drop below 5 or 6.  And that's awesome about EMU now up to #7.

Congrats to Guilford's Tyler Sanborn who was named Scholar Athlete of the Week - see story at link on this site home page below text of articles.

Not only do we (the ODAC)  have a slamming bunch of basketball players, it's always nice to see them get some recognition as students.  Way to go, Mr. Sanborn!

Big tests ahead in the next couple of days and weeks... GO JACKETS!!!!

R-MC played DeSales on 11/29. DeSales was ranked #7 at the time (pre-season poll) and fell to #24 in the Week #1 poll, rose back to #21 in the Week #2 poll, then fell out of the top 25 but continued to receive votes until this week's poll. So R-MC's record against top 25 teams should read 3-1.

I've spoken to Tyler Sanborn many times and he's a quality person.  If anyone wants to see and hear a little more about him, here's a video clip that aired Monday night on the local Fox affiliate in the Triad:

Request to all RMC fans or others familiar with Ashland area restaurants:  Guilford is looking to host a reception for Ashland area Guilford alumni prior to the GC/RMC game on Jan. 30.  Any recommendations on a restaurant that might be a good venue?  Thanks

Actually Nova I am not in Ashland much anymore, therefore I could not give you any good places to eat. Sorry perhaps someone else will jump in and help out.
