You're right, any DIII coach would salivate at the chance to get Tyler Sanborn as the nucleus for his team.  Now, does that mean Dom Trawick's the 2nd player chosen?  I still respectfully say no.

Wouldn't it be fun to start on ODAC Fantasy Basketball League? ;D

I sure wouldn't want the first pick, since I think I could get a couple of picks in the first round and a second round selection from Hasanova for Sanborn at No. 1 ;)
Talk to me, HSCfan.  lol

Most of us know that players the size of Ben Strong and Tyler Sanborn rarely attend a DIII school and, if they do, they have some "holes" in their physique and/or game that caused them to be overlooked by a DII or DI program.  Same is true for these guys, but, as the old adage goes, "You can't teach height!"

As a freshman, Strong was farther along than Sanborn, but I don't think I've ever seen a player improve his strength, conditioning and basketball skills as much as I have Sanborn the last three years.  Tyler will also openly tell you that playing against Ben in practice for two years helped him improve and forced him to get better.  At his size and playing for a 1A HS (NC's lowest classification), he didn't have to be very good to dominate.

Tyler's inside play obviously opens things up for our guards and vice versa.  It's a great combination!

^ Hasanova, the weather reports are calling for 6-12 inches of snow all along your route, starting Friday.  So, all you Quakers please be careful out there!

We're flying under the radar on projecting all the ODAC accolades for this season b/c in this conference, especially, it's way too soon!

And, of course, we love our Jackets & we'll have to carefully comb the stats to suggest some deserving Jacket on this "15-2, only lost to Top 25 teams, defeated a number of Top 25 teams, and beat a D-I team in exhibition-- all with a brand new head coach" R-MC team.

GO JACKETS!!!

And everyone please be safe on the roads this weekend if the snow does arrive.

rmc1982

I may also be re-thinking my decision to be in the Center Of The Universe on saturday afternoon and watching it in Franklin,Va via the Jacket television network(aka....watching it on my Laptop and listening to Marty and Co!)Even here in S.E. Va in the Hampton Roads area where we seldom get snow they are calling for it,although its WAY too early to predict Hampton Roads......Hasa and the rest of the Quaker Nation-please travel safely to Crenshaw-there are also plenty of hotels in the Ashland area to stay.....stay tuned....Should be a GREAT game....but we gotta get past tonight before we worry about that....first things first.....the Gennies are in Crenshaw tonight!

I was talking about COY for this year. Not what might happen next year at HSC. I f you look at some of the early posts from this week we have according to some people two really really good players at HSC yet they have a below 500 record and we want to talk about COY for 2011. Some people think HSC has a First team all-ODAC and also FOY players.  Did i miss something. I also was not aware that Coach Dean at EMU could build his program into a "NATIONAL POWER " when the season is only about 65  % complete. Holy Moly !! Talk about jumping the gun! How many winning season's has EMU had in the past five years. And does a winning season make you a National Power? God I hope not.

Donho, keeping it real, as always.

As to the Jackets, did anyone really think they were a #1 team, or are they even a top 10 team?  I posted if they were 4-1 or 5-0 during their recent 5 game stretch, I'd be a believer.  Well, they were 3-2 and I still contend that they lack that 'go-to' guy.  Sure, we can have 4 or 5 double digits scorers in a game, but we lose to a Fields-led VWC team, and he has 31 points.  This team will be competitive and play in the NCAAs, but will not go far if we cannot find that go-to guy.

Good luck to the Jackets, but I'm still hoping to find that leader, that fire-in-the-belly guy that will win games and lead this team!

78rmc, we have some nice players but no ball-busters. We may have a couple 2nd team all-ODAC and Coaches Davis and Byers have them for the most part playing together.  You are correct R-MC needs someone to take over ownership of this team.
I would really hate to see this team finish as a good team and not a great team as defined on this site weeks ago by 3sdown. I think his breakdown of what is a goodteam and what is great team was spot on.

Algernon    Just for the record  Coach Macedo has been honored only ONCE in his 10 years as a head coach of VWC as COY of the ODAC.  He has been honored by many other associations however many times.  I just checked his coaches profile on the VWC site.  He is probably one of the best coaches the ODAC has ever seen in his short tenure in the ODAC yet this honor has escaped him except for the year he won the national title in 2005-06.  Again this year , he has proven himself, taking a young team from a 17-13 record last year to a 16-2 record this year.  Macedo, along with Coach Davis, Palumbo and Dean all deserve consideration this year. I agree that Coach Dean is leading the pack at this moment but I would not leave out the other coaches until the regular season is over.

FISHTANKFAN .....  You make a good argument and I hadn't realized that Macedo had won the award only once.  He is definitely one of the best coaches the ODAC has ever seen. There are only 3 ODAC coaches who have taken their team to the Final Four:  Dave Macedo (twice), Tony Shaver (twice), and Palumbo.  It's an amazing level of accomplishment and Macedo undoubtedly has deserved more than one COY.

As an aside, most Hampden-Sydney fans would argue that Tony Shaver did not win the award as many times as he deserved, but that's history .....   ;)

ODACHOOPS- I disagree. If you put Phillips, Henson, Sanborn on that BC team their numbers will go way up. They will be the lone player on the team. If you put Trawick on GC, EMU, RMC or VWC his numbers will go way down b/c he won't play 32 mins a game, he won't shoot almost 17 times per contest and he wouldn't be the #1 option.  As far as having the ability to go one on one, Phillips is just as or more athletic than Trawick, he goes one on one all the time and scores at will almost. He also shoots a higher 3pt % than Trawick, a higher 2pt %, avg. more rpg, and more steals pg. all while playing 6 less minutes per game. He also averages 3.8ppg less than Trawick while playing 6 less minutes and shooting 5 less shots attempts per game.
As for Henson, Hasanova said it best, and has seen Henson more than most of us.

Brian Hamilton Thanks for the research on POY from lower tier players in ODAC. I played against Justin Call and had to guard him everytime! Wow he was amazing!! He was also the National Player of the Year!! As for Kyle he has a Professional Career. Again probably exception to the Rule.

HSC fan- As far as Trawick being feared b/c "he can do what he did against EMU". Well, Fields can do what he did any given night as well. So can Sanborn, Henson, Johnson, Phillips, DJ Hinson from EMU, Echols from LC and a handful of others. As far as comparing Michael Jordan to making his team better. Well Jordan also played with arguably the best 3guard of all time Scottie Pippen. He also won 6 championships. Trawick has 0, and I don't see him making his surrounding cast that much better, only 1 other player is avg. double figure points and nobody esle is close to double figures. They also are 6-9 overall.  Trawick is a great player but not close to the the best player in the ODAC. When Justin Call was POY on a losing team, he was unstoppable almost every night and he was National POY.

Thanks, 2RMCFans.  I'm in a bit of a quandary - I made some fiinancial and time commitments, so I feel I have to go ... but I'm a bit worried about it logistically.  We'll see, but thanks for your report and concern.

If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith
