It's a different kind of defense, but E&H's stats for that game include 9 blocks, 61 rebounds, 31 turnovers (by Guilford), and 20 steals.

the defense is basically just a man to man full court press (with loads and laods of pressure) for 10-15 seconds. then they let off some so their opponent can score so they can get the ball and jack up some ridiculous 3 pointer. Good ball control and slowing down the game really screws them up because their defense relies on forcing turnovers early. If you have multiple guys capable of handling the ball well and making good making good passes, you'll limit the easy transition scoring opportunities for them, which is where a great deal of their points come that arnet on FTs or threes. Also, the less turnovers you have, the longer you have the ball, and E&H doesn't want to play defense for more than 15 seconds most of the time. They don't want the game to be slowed down any, so controlling the pace is vital to carving up their defense.

It was 97.  The 87 was a typo, but what proof reader would catch that?   :)

It's a gift - or a curse.  lol  No one would know unless you had a personal interest in that game.

There were some remarkable stats in that game, to be sure, but the Quakers still won the game by 11, 147-136.  Speaking of a weird boxscore, E&H was 30/97 from three-point range (50 in the 1st half, 47 in the 2nd) and Guilford was 0/2 (both in the 2nd half).  E&H took 129 total shots (made 44) while Guilford was 53 of 80 (all 2 point baskets) plus 41 made FT's.

Big tournament this weekend at R-MC with three of the top 20 teams in the nation, including Fisher who is much better than their #20 ranking(have only played five games) and Lincoln, a team who waxed R-MC earlier this season. If R-MC gets by Lincoln in Round 1, they'll likely have Fisher waiting for them in the championship game. Kudos to R-MC for inviting solid teams to their tournament and not making this a two game celebration of R-MC basketball.

Good luck to all the teams involved!

EMU beats Ferrum tonight by a score of 79-70.  Korey Whiting scored a game high 21 pts. He was followed by Jason Sager 15 pts, 12 reb. and E.J. Arrington with 10 pts.

EMU fell behind early after Coach Dean pulled the starting five for lack of  defensive intensity.  EMU was leading at the time 2-0.  The starters were put back in the game with the score 15-2 Ferrum,  and slowly chipped away at the lead before going into the half with a 2 point deficit.

Overall, EMU played hard but missed several opportunites to put the Panthers away with missed lay-ups and poor free throw shooting.  A total of 51 fouls were called in the game.

Great win for EMU.  Enjoy the break and come back ready to play some great bball down the stretch.

It was a great nonconference win for the Royals tonight against Ferrum. I believe the loss dropped their record to 3-7 on the season but they are no push over. They've played several upper tier ODAC schools tough so far this season and has beaten D2 Davis & Elkins. Now to the game.....For the first 6 or 7 minutes it appeared EMU was struggling from the stresses of exam week. EMu trailed by as many as 13 in the early going but were able to pick up there defensive which created high percentage scoring opportunities. Ferrum led by only 2 at the half despite 18 first half TO's by the Royals . EMU did a great job on the glass tonight. I believe they had 50 rebounds and 20+ were offensive. Korey Whiting really stepped up for the Royals down the stretch and made a huge 3 point play to extend the lead to 5 pts. with just a few minutes remaining. It was a sloppy game but a great win going into the break and after suffering two very close losses to VWC in OT and at RMC down the stretch. Hopefully the team will work hard during the break doing their individual workouts that Kirby handed out and will be ready to rise back into the top half of the ODAC!

algernon

#17 Lincoln leads at the half, ahead of #11 RMC by 6 points, 48-42.  The winner will play #20 St. John Fisher, who beat Lake Erie today, at 6pm tomorrow.

algernon

RMC leading by a substantial margin in the second half, 85-73.  Looks like the Yellow Jackets should achieve their revenge against the Lions.

78rmc

Jackets beat a very talented Lincoln team 101-80.  Big win against one of the quickest and most athletic teams in DIII.  Jackets use a very balanced attack and minimized second half TOs.  Great coaching job by Rhoades, the difference in the game.
