Gatiger missed completely what the ODAC Pick'em is all about.  He/she also proposed a "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist, but a "solution" that would further diminish participation in the ODAC Conversation.  It is such a bad idea that it has gained the support of <!    :)

I'm with you Jimmy. Let's get all the old gurus together and we'll have our own low-tech pick 'em contest. These young guys don't understand the significance of the reward: a case of Moon Pies and a case of RC Cola!

gatiger

You know us younger guys and technology...

I was looking back through posts to see if I could find a particular one about last year's pick 'em and I wasn't having much luck.  Maybe I somehow slapped two posts together in my head when I saw a need for a solution.

Features though...  I thought (and I've thought wrong before) that it'd be kinda cool (younger and technology) to be able to see which person picked a team easily and see how many times they had picked said team(s), view how the person had done in last year or previous year(s) games and also limit the result set to the ODAC so that you'd still be able to win the RC Cola and Moon Pies :)

Jim:  It's easy enough to still have plenty of discussion about the pick 'em here.  It is possible to see which teams a user has picked.  It is possible to see results.  The "leaderboard" could still be posted here for further discussion.  There are no boards on the site and the boards link goes here.  The system just does the tallying of points instead of doing it by hand.  Games and winning teams still have to be entered manually though.  It's he, btw.

Everyone has free will.  I was just hoping to somehow enhance the Pick 'Em with some automation and more stats.  Cause stats are always a good thing in sports.  I've obviously drawn the wrath of some Guru's

I guess I'm still wrestling with the necessity of gatiger's proposal and the rationale behind it. Remind me again what is wrong with 1) Jim's posting of the pick 'ems and 2) Jim's posting of the standings and results. Seriously, tell me what I'm missing.

dubya -

Nothing is wrong.  Nothing is wrong with the horse and buggy either.

Just wanted to try to make Jim's life easier so he wouldn't have to keep track and tally.

If nobody is interested, that's fine.

Since the break is over and games are starting back up, I'll go back to mostly lurking so that things don't end up venturing too far off topic.  More than happy to continue via email if need be.

My boss now wants me to work on a query - time to get back to work. :(

Happy New Year everyone.

JWW,
Of course you meant Steelyglen, not Jim, as the fellow who tallies and announces the results.

Hampden-Sydney had no trouble disposing of Old Westbury in the first round of their tourney, 77-62.  As the Tiger announcers said, the D3hoops readers will think from the final score that it was closer than it really was.    :)

Guilford falls 95-78 to a really GOOD NAIA Ohio Dominican team.  It was 17-17 and the next thing I know it's 47-23.  After trailing 53-28 at the half, Guilford pulls within 15 a few times in the second, but couldn't get any closer.  Not sure why, but the ODU coach didn't pull his starters until 1:23 left with a 21 point lead - Guilford had gone to the bench a lot sooner.  This did not sit favorably with me and many in the crowd.  ODU absolutely couldn't miss in the first-half (59.4%) and they were 5/5 on 3-pointers in the first, including most from 6-10 feet behind the arc and a fall-away shot at the buzzer!   The Quakers were led by Ray Edmond and Ben Strong with 16 and 14, respectively.  ODU had two guys with 24 - Massey and Busch.  Oh well, bring on the Heidelberg Student Princes!

Looks like Macon lost to Fisk, 80-72, according to the Scoreboard on this site.  Any news from anyone in Ashland, Va.?

Fisk 80
R-MC 72

Farmingdale State 81
Kenyon 59

Working on getting scores and stats on the R-MC website -- 6:00 & 8:00 games, have to hit TVs and newspapers first.

Stay tuned.

Fisk is extremely quick. Dominated the Macon guards, especially between top of the keys, forced many turnovers. R-MC had a 5 point lead @ the 9;48 mark, had 2 chances to build on the lead but turned the ball over and Fisk got back into the game with momentum. Still 2 to 3 point game under 4 to go, Fisk worked the clock beautifully holding the ball and spreading their offense, only then to blow by the defense for easy baskets. A very well coached team.
