Just saw on the R-MC website that the Sporting News ranked the Jackets a preseason #3 in Division III Hoops and Brandon Braxton is listed as a preseason Honorable mention All-American!! Good news for the Jackets, but I hope it's not the kiss of death..... ;)

Sporting News isn't a kiss of anything.

Tyler Sanborn had 9/9 off the bench for Pamplona (Spain) in their first game. In their second game, he started and had 13/13. He has a contract clause for double/doubles, so a promising start.

Ben Strong (Guilford) is playing for a first division team in the Netherlands, Landstede Zwolle.  Haifa swapped out its entire roster this year.

This is an exciting opportunity for him.

Does either Tyler or Ben still hold any (realistic) NBA aspirations?

I have fond memories of both from d3 post-season fantasy drafts.  Earlier, anyone could pick any five players, so there was duplication.  Those 5 of us with Ben his junior year finished 1-5 (I took first)!  When Tyler was a junior, we held an actual draft; I thought he was MY secret weapon and waited 'til the 3rd round.  Gregory Sager took him ONE spot before me! >:(  (He won, by a long ways; I was second, with Tyler the difference. :(  I've been ragging Greg for his 'theft' ever since. :D)

Mr. Ypsi's memory gets a little selective as he continues to whine about losing Tyler to Greg in the post-season fantasy draft of 2 years ago when Tyler was a junior. :o Mr. Sager did choose Tyler Sanborn 1 spot before Mr. Ypsi planned to choose him, however Greg did not win the contest that year, he actually came in 3rd place. Mr. Ypsi did not come in 2nd place, nor did he come in just behind Greg in 4th place. He actually came in 9th out of 10. A certain Prestidigitator(with 2 players from National Champion Washington U and Clay Henson from Guilford) came in 1st place winning by over 200 points. I think Mr. Ypsi's exact quote at the end of the contest that year was "If Greg hadn't stolen Sanborn from me I could of been in the middle of the pack." It's not often I catch the old Ypsilanti fox with embellishing a story but I got em this time. ;D In all fairness to Mr. Ypsi,  this past post-season, Tyler's senior year, he was Mr. Ypsi's 1st pick (the 2nd pick overall after Aaron Thompson) and he did win the post-season fantasy tournament.

Turner King has recently signed a contract to continue his career and play professionally overseas. King becomes a member of the Essex Pirates in the British Basketball League (BBL).  The BBL is a a 12-team league that was formed in 1987.  The Pirates are coached by Tim Lewis who is also the Great Britain Basketball U-20 Head Coach.

Oops! :-[

I'd blame the poor memory on my age, but the 'prestidigitator' is the same age!

Shenandoah's move to the ODAC announced today prompts some thoughts about the future of the USA South and the spread of the Mid-Atlantic Shuffle:

I'd like to welcome the Shenandoah Hornets to the ODAC.  I can see this leading to the creation of two 6-team divisions in basketball.

FYI Rhett Bonner (Guilford '10) has signed a contract to play with the Washington Generals this season.  He's the third former Quaker (Caleb Kimbrough and Eric Belkoski) over the last few years to travel with the team and the Globetrotters.   Have a good time with this, Rhett!

I went to Ashland this weekend for the football game and my b-ball frat bro's told me I should have a letter in my mailbox from Nathan Davis this morning explaining our R-MC recruits and prospects for the season, etc. As you all know we Jackets play things pre-season pretty close to the chest but I guess this will be no secret soon. Our men of the class of '14 at R-MC ,in no particular order
1-Chris Cook 6-0 guard Mechanicsville,Va(Lee-Davis)
2-Chase Desgain(Adam's's brother I presume) 6-0 guard Glen Allen,Va(JR Tucker)
3-Jamal Powell 6-5 forward Bowie,Md (St John's College High School)
4- Jamie Robinson 6-3 guard Gainesville,Va ( Battlefield HS)
5-Andre Simon 6-4 forward Newport News,Va(Menchville HS)
Don't know much about any of these kids, and  its our way not to say much when we DO know something, but I will say this......Beware the Yellow Jacket!! I like it much better when we're UNDER the radar instead of the bullseye but there's not much we can do about it now.....and there are at least 4 teams that scare the he-- out of me in the ODAC right now and at least another 4 or 5 that can beat you on any given night. That being said, we shouild be pretty tough this year! Anyways, I wanted to report this as no one has seemed to know who we recruited......

26 1/2 hrs to Midnight Madness at Yoder Arena. Even with more than 4 weeks away from the reg season - I can feel the excitement building!!

My second year through the ODAC. I'm a little more prepared than last year. REALLY lookin forward to it.

What a great conference and wonderful folks (well - almost everyone!! ;))

Geez - back to the crickets again.

I've tried to ferret out some Gennie info from  my best contacts. We'll see if I can get scoop on the newbies.
