Final H-SC 87 - RC 72 - was tied at 10 minute mark - Jesse was 5 for 6 from 3 pt range total of 21 with 7 rebounds - George was something like 17 for 19 from foul line and 24 overall - 47 to 27 rebound difference - H-SC had 21 turnovers vs. 13 for Roanoke - overall H-C was 30 for 38 from the foul line whereas Roanoke was 10 for 16

So Harrison George gets 24 points and 13 rebounds and he's NOT the "Player of the Game".   :D

Makes sense, though, because Ben Jessee had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, hitting 7 of 9 shots (with 5 of 6 from 3-point range)!  Ru White also had a super game with 19 points.

Khobi's back on the bench with the Tigers but I suspect that he's out for another 6-8 games, given the time it takes to recover from mono.  Even without him, the Tigers are looking very good in their last 3 games, with the Holiday Hoops win over Medaille, a solid effort against #3 Virginia Wesleyan, and today's 15-point victory over Roanoke!

Roanoke will win a pretty good number of ODAC games.  They hit 46% of their shots and had balanced scoring, with Singleton, Felix, Crizer, Amponsah, and Clay all scoring in double-digits.  Their biggest weakness is their rebounding, as they lost the rebounding battle to HSC by a lopsided 27-47.

IF the Tigers can win on the road against Lynchburg this coming Wednesday and at Bridgewater on Saturday, they'll have a 3-3 ODAC record (10-4 overall) when they travel to Washington and Lee the following Wednesday.  Winning on the road against Lynchburg and Bridgewater is key to their hopes of finishing among the top 4-5 teams in the conference.

At this point in the season, I see the ODAC as having teams at 3 levels of strength ..... as indicated below.  Next to each team, I've noted all wins/losses that team has WITHIN a level, as well as upsets (italicized ... wins/losses that are "inconsistent" with these levels):

Level 1:
Virginia Wesleyan (5-0, 14-0) –  2-pt. win over RMC
Randolph-Macon (5-1, 12-2) – 2-pt. loss to VWC, 5-pt. win over EMU
EMU (2-2, 9-3) – 5-pt. loss to RMC, 1-pt. loss to W&L

Level 2:
Randolph (4-1, 9-3) – 2-pt. win over W&L, 17-pt. win over HSC
Washington & Lee (4-1, 10-3) – 1-pt. win over EMU, 2-pt. loss to Randolph, 4-pt. win over Guilford
Guilford (3-2, 9-5) – 4-pt. loss to W&L
Hampden-Sydney (1-3, 8-4) – 17-pt. loss to Randolph

Level 3:
Roanoke (1-2, 5-6) – 9-pt. win over Lynchburg
Bridgewater (1-3, 5-8) – 2-pt. win over Lynchburg
Lynchburg (1-5, 5-9) – 9-pt. loss to Roanoke, 2-pt. loss to Bridgewater, 9-pt. win over E&H
Emory & Henry (0-5, 3-10) – 9-pt. loss to Lynchburg

Quakes top the Hornets in Greensboro today, 69-54, after trailing 33-29 at the half.  A strong 40-21 showing in the final 20 minutes pulled it out.   Guilford improves to 9-5, 3-2 with their 4th straight win.  Lynchburg drops to 5-9, 1-5.

Marlins win today over a very good Washington & Lee team.  Congratulations to RMC, EMU, HSC and GC  on their wins today also.

We didn't get to see the whole game at Bridgewater today before going to the Jackets' women's game in Crenshaw,  but it's clear that the Jackets are not performing well in the 1st half of recent games.

Fortunately, Bridgewater must have run out of steam after leading at the half.

Hope we can get over that before EMU comes to town on Wed.!!!

Congrats to all the winners today.  GO JACKETS!!!!

Quote from: baselinejam on January 01, 2011, 02:37:25 PMI'm with "Tiny Bubbles" - the coach or supporters can sell the 3 minute sub as new wave. The overwhelming conventional wisdom tells me that the coach doesn't have confidence in the player he yanks.  If the player is out of shape or  consistently making bad decisions then he doesn't deserve to start; or, the coach enjoys head games. While I'm commenting about RMC program. I'll take a shot at my Generals too. We have 10 players averaging double digit minutes. Most of us would think we're blowing people out, to spread playing time around like that. We're only 6 pts better per game. I wish we'd settle on our top 8 and develop some consistency. Our top 2 guys are on the bench for 13/14 minutes a game after that only 2 other guys play slightly more than a half. Hard to get rhythm or momentum working for you there. ???
Still wish you'd settle in on only eight players? This strategy seemed to beat EMU, who, if I recall correctly, was picked to win the ODAC. Me thinks you shouldn't complain when your team is coached by a damn good coach who knows what he is doing and is guiding his team to what looks like could be their best season in quite a long time...

As all boards like this one; we post our opinions. So you (& I) can think & pretty much say anything we want to. I can't tell you what didn't happen. Maybe we win by 16 with shorter rotation; maybe we lose. If you read my quote below - I'm a big Dean Smith fan. When he used to run the "Blue Team" into the game he subbed in 5 and left them in for a few miniutes of frenetic defense and careful ball control offense. Plus he had some future All-Americans coming off the bench. From what (admittedly) little I've seen IMO we aren't 10 deep. Heck I hope it keeps working. Still when your 2nd 5 avg. over 16.5 minutes - you least have to admit that's unusual.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

This is awesome.  Wish I could be there but I have to go to my grandfather's birthday party (he's turning 98!) and won't make the trip to Ashland. 8-)

Have fun DeWayne!!  Maybe I'll see you in Salem. ;D

Congratulations to Quaker Josh Pittman for being named ODAC PoW.  Josh scored 61 in Guilford's 3-0 week.   With 34 in the Dec. 29 game versus Manchester, Pittman has 95 points in the last four games, all GC victories.

Baselinejam - Dean Smith subs to create frenentic defense and careful ball control offense, but Hutchinson subs because he likes mind games or a kid does not deserve to start?  Curious how you reached that conclusion.  Couldn't it be that Hutchinson wants to create frenetic defense and careful ball control offense as well (the stats indicate that these are both central to the Generals gameplan in recent seasons).
