Another ODAC starter out for an undetermined period of time is Guilford Senior forward Martin Stephenson (high ankle sprain).  In the two games he's missed so far, the Quakers are 1-1.  In the game just before his injury, Martin had a career-high 19 points on 9 of 10 shooting.

algernon, thanks for the corrections to Coach Moir's record.  It's hard to believe he's exactly even on his ODAC games!

Nice win tonight Gennies. Fans who survived the lean years always appreciate a W.

Now to add more full to the fire re: minutes played:http://www.odaconline.com/sports/mbkb/2010-11/players?sort=min&view=&pos=all&r=0  ::)

IMO, our top players need to spend  more time on the floor. The object isn't to hold off a charging Lynchburg. We should try to bury them.

Against Lynchburg:
Cimino 28 minutes
Adkins 30 minutes
Whitaker 29 minutes
Guest 23 minutes
Ey 20 minutes

Your five best players in that game all played at least 20 minutes. Cimino probably would have gotten more burn as well if he hadn't gotten in foul trouble, same with Rice if he hadn't fouled out in just 17 minutes.

For the season, W&L only has two guys averaging 20 or more minutes a game, you did play your best players more in that game than you had for the season, which is exactly what you are asking for so I do not see the need to complain yet again.

Only two of the 11 ODAC teams have more than five players playing 20 or more minutes a game. Of the nine other teams, most only have 2 or 3 playing high 20s. So the playing time handed out in the Lynchburg @ W&L game is indicative of what other teams in the league do, and I do not see fans of VWC, Randolph, Guilford, EMU, Roanoke, BC, LC, H-SC, and E&H complaining right now about playing time.

The strategy W&L uses works for them and works for other teams in the ODAC as well. I can not understand why you are complaining about how the coach is giving out playing time when it is WINNING GAMES while also helping develop the younger talent that will have to step up when the upperclassmen graduate. There is a reason why W&L is winning games and there is no need to change a winning strategy until it starts to become ineffective. To do otherwise would be counterproductive to a winning strategy.

Interesting stat:  Josh Pittman has scored 150 points in Guilford's last 6 games (34, 21, 23, 17, 28 & 27).  He's a sophomore - I won't be a bit surprised if this young man's not ODAC POY before he's finished with his career.

One other note on W&L. The team is currently 4th in the ODAC in overall winning percentage. The three teams above them are EMU, R-MC, and VWC. W&L uses a 10-man rotation, EMU nine, R-MC nine, and VWC ten. The top teams all believe that playing a deep rotation is a good strategy to use, and with good reason as they are a combined 53-9.

That's good if you have nine guys worthy of getting playing time. What works for one coach at one school is not guaranteed to work for another.

Yes, and it's working, so I see no reason why to change it.

We can always try to be better - as an old coach of mine said "when you're green you grow & when you're ripe you rot"

Could the Guilford College Quakers be the first to ruin the Marlins perfect season? Tune in on Saturday, January 22 to find out! I always get a little nervous when the Marlins travel to Ragan Brown. It's a tough place to scratch out a win.

JWW- If its gonna happen(and thats a BIG IF)I would think Ragan-Brown would be as good of a spot as any!! I'm sure Hasa wants to be there to see it happen! That's a TOUGH of a "W" as there is in the ODAC on the road!Marlins will fall eventually, I think(and for them it would probably be a good thing)but whether or not its saturday remains to be seen!

There are no bad seats in Ragan-Brown.  :)  I'll be there!
