Final:  Averett 97, Guilford 86.  :(  I only saw the second half, but GC fought back from a 13-point first half deficit to draw within one, 60-59.  Then, AU went on a 19-2 run.  It was one of those inexplicable things where one team can do absolutely nothing wrong and the other can do absolutely nothing right.  In a nutshell, turnovers and Free Throws - we did and they didn't and they did and we didn't, respectively.  On a positive note, Ben Strong had a career-high 29 points, including 22 in the first half.

talk about a thriller in Lynchburg! VWC pulls out a 69-66 win in OT. LC is down one in regulation and sweeney drives all the way to the hoop and gets fouled on a shot attempt with 1.8 seconds left. HE goes to the line and misses the first one. LC calls a TO and sweeney converts the second one. Overtime! With less than a minute to go, the game was 66-68 and VWC had the ball. Kwame Safo steals the inbounds and goes for a layup and is hammered on the attempt, but the refs dont call a foul! I feel like making a copy of the tape and sending it to whoever is in charge of the refs because the refs should be suspended or fined for missing that foul call!

Extremely well played game by us. I was really proud of how well we played. If we can play like this consistently we'll be back on track in the ODAC. Tough way to lose and I'm pretty pissed about it, but i'm not too particularly disappointed because we played so well.

Averett conquers another ODAC team. Other than the Macon game I think they are undefeated against ODAC teams. Very solid team.

LadyEagle, not impressed by Wansley?  Where have you been for the last four years?  He is the reigning POY.  He led both teams tonight with a game high 14 pts.  It may not have been a dominating performance, but with the balance and depth of the Jackets, he doesn't have to score 25 every night for RMC to win.  Maybe this will impress you, since arriving in Ashland, Wansley and the Jackets are 6-1 against the Eagles.

I'm not saying that Wans will win this year's POY, as there is lot's of parity in the ODAC at the individual and team levels, but he's certainly one of the best players in the ODAC.  The POY contest has just started as we enter conference play.  I can assure you that team wins are more important to Wansley than individual stats.  What impress me most about Wansley is not how many points he scores, but when he scores them.  I've seen on several occasions, it seems that the momentum is swinging and Wansley steps up and scores a couple of quick baskets.

please.  let's not get into prior POY discussions.  I wasn't too enthused last year.  I'm not saying Wansley is horrible.  He is a good player, but I think the reason he looks so good is because as a whole RMC is a good team.  They're gonna make him look good.  I guess I just haven't seen him at his best.  I wasn't that impressed with him last year either.  And awesome, Wansley had 14 points.  He also had no assists and 2 rebounds.  Michael had 13 points, 3 assists, and 10 rebounds.  He also blocked two shots.  You can't just score 14 points and impress me.  You gotta be a little bit of a better rounded player.  The way I see it, RMC would've performed just as well tonight without Wansley as they did with him.  Sorry...most of the baskets I saw him score weren't very jaw dropping.

LadyEagle, I'll settle with you not being impressed and the ODAC coaches having voted on Wansley for last year's POY.  I don't think you can watch a player once a year and make such statements.

Perhaps there is some animosity here, seeing as Wansley beat out Easterling for POY last year.  I felt that Easterling had  it in the bag , but it must have been that embarassing temper tantrum he threw at VWC late last year that blew his chances. Totally uncharacteristic for a Leatherman player.

When you are "the man", getting doubled team game after game, banged around and sometimes fouled without getting the call, you won't always look but so good. It is Wansley's presence that make others for R-MC better.

Averett: the scourge of the ODAC.  With a win over Guilford and two over LC, they gotta be good.

Well this is an interesting development.  Averett.  Never hear all that much from 'em.  What makes them so good?  Any objective analysis out there?

With regards to the BC-R-MC game, I see LadyEagle's point.  But whenever Wans gets the ball, at least two players in the paint collapse on him, so any points he gets are hard earned, and certainly not pretty!!

How in the hell does EMU lose to Greensboro?! Sager didn't get the start, played only 20 minutes, and just 1-10 from the field with 4 points?? WHats up with that??

I'm not surprised at all Guilford lost. I even picked Averett to win. After seeing them last year and seeing how much better they are from last year, on a neutral court or their home court I would pick them to beat  probably everyone in the conference other than HSC and RMC.

First and foremost they have a great coach who notr only knows how to coach on the floor, he can also recruit fairly well. They are really athletic, quick, and fast. They don't have much muscle, but somehow they were able to push out our post players well away from the basket when they did get the ball. Their big men are relaible shooters from mirange and from jus tinside the 3 point line, which helps them execute backdoor cus beautifully.

I wish they were! after finally gettting to look at the box score, VWC was lucky that both Fantin AND Adair decided to show up to the game, because no one else did. Props go out to Fantin for a career day and props go out to Adair for being able to get all those points on a defense that did a relatively good job of defending him regardless of what the box score may say. Fianlly did something that impressed me some this year.
