O'Neil received a second techical foul and he had to leave the court - actually to dressing room - a E&H player also had two but he did not have to leave - not sure why not - White had stolen a ball but fell on the floor - a E&H player jumped on him - several players surrounded them and Colin ran in and grab someone and he was called - hard to make out on streaming TV as to what happened in the crowd - they did shoot fouls at each end - ref's took almost 7 minutes to make their minds up - very strange

I've now heard from an authoritative source that O'Neill has not been suspended and will be able to play on Friday vs. EMU.  Although he received a second technical and left the court, he was not given a technical for fighting (even though that was the widely-held belief, as a result of the long, confusing 7-minute gap in play at the end of the game while the officials were trying to figure things out .... ).  Two technicals, but no ejection for fighting: consequently, no suspension.

Tough to argue EMU up a spot when Ferrum has three more games and wins as regional games... giving them a better regional record percentage.

Well, that's true.  Do you know where there's a listing of strength-of-schedule calculations, Dave?

D-Mac,

Besides the fact that EMU beat Ferrum.

D-Mac,

Besides the fact that EMU beat Ferrum.

And the fact that EMU has a better In-Region SOS than Ferrum (.483 > .466).

And the fact that EMU has a better in-region result vs. ranked teams (2-2 is better than 1-2).

So, it would seem that in-region win % is the only important factor to the committee (Ferrum = .818, but EMU = .789), except for the fact that Mary Hardin-Baylor (in-region win % = .760) is #7 while Emory (in-region win % = .783) is #8, so there's clearly more to the ranking than in-region win %.

I still think we can make a pretty good argument for EMU as #4: The Royals have a better In-Region SOS, they have a better in-region result vs. ranked teams ..... and, also ... well ... they beat Ferrum.   ;D

One would think the most weight would be put on the fact EMU beat Ferrum head to head. But obviously not. I think EMU will be in no matter what based on the National Tournament Selection Committee seeing them Ranked #11 in the Nation. Time will tell......

We're off to Salem in the morning as the women Jackets are the #1 seed and play Lynchburg at 1:00.   Best wishes to all for a GREAT ODAC tournament and safe travels!

GO JACKETS!!!

Well, as long as Ferrum wins the USAS tourney all is well in Royal Land! Although I do believe EMU is better than Ferrum as I witnessed their game in Hburg earlier this season. Another point could be made that the USAS is no where near the level of play that the ODAC presents each and every night in conference play. I'd feel pretty comfortable saying that if Ferrum was a member of the ODAC they're not even in postseason consideration unless they won the tourney in Salem. But, that's neither here nor there...just a little wishful thinking on my behalf. With that being said Lets Go Panthers :)

I wouldn't say that.... Ferrum only lost one game to the 7 or 8 ODAC teams they played, am I wrong? Especially at this point in the season, it doesn't matter what conference they're in, they'd probably be a tough out for anyone in the ODAC.... hopefully both teams will end up getting in

That's all good well and fine. Good teams beat up on teams that they are superior than(or atleast they should, understand a let down or two)...I was just saying I dont think they would fair well in the ODAC on a weekly basis. USAS does not compare to the ODAC. Thats what my main point was meant to be and yeah I wouldnt mind seeing both make the tourney!! And they did played 7 ODAC teams and the game they lost just happened to be to the team I think should be higher than them in the regional rankings. Thats all

Ferrum played 7 ODAC opponents. They lost to EMU and HSC. EMU in Hburg and HSC in Ferrum. Ferrum beat 1 team in the top 5 in the ODAC (Randolph) by 2 pts.  The other teams are ranked 7-11 in the ODAC. My guess is Ferrum would have finished 7th in the ODAC behind HSC and Randolph. They don't play in a great conference like the ODAC and I agree they are not battle tested. But none of this matters! LOL!! Best of Luck to everyone in Salem. Safe travels to all,  I will be there in the afternoon!!!!!!!!!!

donho

DeWayne, I think HSC also beat Ferrum this year.

DeWayneCarter

So the two ODAC losses they had came by a combined 10 points.... I don't think that equates to them finishing 7th place... I feel that they would be right there in the thick of things with VWC, RMC, EMU, GC, and HSC in that they would be contenders to capture the ODAC championship as all these teams are

Ehhh, well I guess that's why we're all entitled to our own opinions.  ;D
I attended both an ODAC and USAS university during my college years (Grad within the last year) and I for one can vouche for the level of play not being close to the same. I've seen the elite teams from both conferences and EMU would do work in the USAS, Ferrum would not do the same in the ODAC(although they would compete). Ferrum has two solid players in Crump and Mitchell (Mayo can be a factor at times)...Mitchell gets into foul trouble and they're done...When he's not on the court they're nowhere near the same team. Find it hard to believe they would do much against quality opponents each and every day with a lack of depth. You can squeek by against lesser opponents, but eventually it'll show up and cost ya.

Thanks for the info Algernon. Glad to hear Colin will be available. His impact on the team isn't always shown in the stats (sure did in the Randolph game though!), but his defense, toughness, and most especially, leadership.
