Randolph vs. Randolph-Macon. Either way it goes, John Randolph will be one happy dead guy tomorrow. Assuming he likes basketball that is.
.......and Nathaniel Macon as well....... ;) :D ;D......Great job fellas.....one more for the prize.......John will be happy either way....this one's for 'Ol Nat!!.....and "Mr Astronomy" Dr Schuyler Miller and "The Colonel" Edwin Schmidt, my Faculty advisor(and Jackets scorekeeper and clock-keeper as well as Econ/Business Dept Chair emeritus)!Hopefully they'll both be ringin' the bell in Old Chapel for BOTH our women's and men's teams tomorrow!! Go Jackets!!

I knew Harrison wan't going to get the award - sophomores never do. It has nothing to do with him not getting it. Phillips was simply terrible this weekend.

But Randolph screwed over Nathaniel by removing his name!

hsctigers2002 : No need for sour grapes.  Randolph played a great game, made a couple of incredible shots and won.  No shame to lose a close game.   The Marlins finished way ahead of all predictions, as did Randolph.  They are a very young team and still have much to learn.  The Marlins will hopefully  be making their 7th STRAIGHT trip to the NCAA's.   How about them apples?  ;D Congratulations to both Randolph and Randolph Macon tonight.  You deserved the wins.   Todd Phillips deserved POY, regardless of how he played in the tournament.  What a pity you find it necessary to belittle him.    Good luck to both teams tomorrow.  Make the ODAC proud.

Randolph's run to the ODAC Championship game is why I wanted HSC to get the 5 seed.  I felt a 1st round game with Guilford was very winable as well as a second round game with VWC.  The Tigers matched up better with those teams than they did EMU in particular.  Congrats to Randolph on their first ODAC championship game.  They have given themselves a chance to go to the dance.  I don't believe they will be able to get there, but I wouldn't have thought they would get to the championship game either.  That's why we play the games!
Guilford felt the same way if we'd drawn the Tigers.  :)

While I think that EMU is almost certain to get a Pool C bid (even if Randolph defeats Macon tomorrow), Royals' supporters should be hoping for the following outcomes tomorrow, any of which will keep a Pool C bid from going instead to someone else (e.g. RMC, St. Thomas, WPI, or Ferrum):

Randolph-Macon over Randolph
St. Thomas over Gustavus Adolphus
WPI over MIT
Ferrum over North Carolina Wesleyan

Guilford would have felt that a 1st round game against the Tigers, who they lost to by 12 points, was more winnable than a 1st round game against Randolph, whom they beat by 17 points only 4 days before they lost to the Tigers ??? ???

WOW, just WOW!

Never prouder of our little college than tonight with both the men & the women in the ODAC Finals... richly deserved in our humble opinion.

Congrats to Randolph on a super win tonight.

EMU played tough & had a GREAT season --best wishes to them in getting that bid for NCAA's.

It's been a L O N G day and tomorrow will be even longer....

GO JACKETS!!!!

This is how I see Eastern Mennonite relative to the national competition for Pool C bids ....

GREEN teams are pretty much a lock for Pool C
BLUE teams are among EMU's competitors for Pool C

Atlantic Region
1 Ramapo 19-4 20-6 (NJAC)
3 Kean 17-6 18-8 (NJAC)
4 St. Joseph's (L.I.) 20-6 22-6 (SKY)

East Region
1 Oswego State 23-4 23-4 (SUNYAC):
2 Ithaca 19-6 20-6  (E8)

Great Lakes
3 Penn State-Behrend 23-3 23-4 (AMCC)
5 Thiel 17-4 20-7 (PrAC)
6 Wabash 19-6 20-6 (NCAC)

Middle Atlantic Region
4 Gwynedd-Mercy 20-5 21-6 (CSAC)
5 Keystone 21-6 21-6 (CSAC)

Midwest Region
1 Concordia (Wis.) 21-3 23-4 (NATH)

Northeast Region
1 Williams 23-2 25-2 (NESCAC)
3 WPI 22-4 22-5 (NEWMAC)
4 Becker 23-4 23-4 (NECC)
5 Amherst 21-3 22-3 (NESCAC)
6 Western Connecticut State 20-5 21-5 (LEC)

South Region
1 Virginia Wesleyan 21-4 23-4 (ODAC)
2 Randolph-Macon 22-5 23-5 (ODAC):  Could win AQ; record listed is if they lose Sunday final to Randolph
3 Texas-Dallas 20-5 21-5 (ASC)
4 Ferrum 20-5 23-5 (USAC)
5 Eastern Mennonite 16-5 22-5 (ODAC)
8 Emory 19-5 20-5 (UAA): Emory finished the season with a big win over Rochester

West Region
2 St. Thomas 22-4 23-4 (MIAC)  : Could win AQ; record listed is if they lose Sunday final to Gustavus Adolphus
5 Carleton 18-6 18-8 (MIAC)
6 UW-River Falls 18-6 20-7 (WIAC)

So I'm thinking that 9 of the 18 Pool C bids are pretty much locked up (Ramapo, Oswego State, Penn State-Behrend, Concordia (Wis.), Williams, WPI, Becker, Amherst, and Virginia Wesleyan).  Texas-Dallas and Ferrum will also likely get a bid before EMU, so that would leave 7 bids left open to EMU.  However, Randolph-Macon,  and St. Thomas will be chosen before EMU, so the Royals have to hope that each of these teams will win their AQ and not take one of the remaining 7 spots.

Virginia Wesleyan could very possibly host first- and second-round games at the Batten Center next Friday and Saturday evening (March 4-5).

If Randolph-Macon wins tomorrow night, they should have as good or better a chance of hosting next weekend.

Last year, both Guilford and EMU had the opportunity to host the first weekend.  Then Guilford hosted EMU and two other teams in a sectional the following weekend.

I wonder how the crowd will be toward us in both games this afternoon-Pro or Anti-RMC....Heck, if we weren't in the mens final I'd be pulling for the Wildcats! Besides the obvious underdog dark horse status they have the Wildcats have,as I've stated before ,a kid i know very well, Caleb Pearson playing guard for them He's from a great family and his parents are super people.
We will have to stave off the momentum and get them out of it early, in my opinion. The longer they hang around the better chance they have to defeat us.They are a very formidable opponent, don't get me wrong, but we have senior leadership and should do well down on the blocks. If we can get inside it only opens up the 3-ball game with,Eric,Adam, and Calvin. If we're hitting 3's we should be ok.If they come out and shoot the lights out we'll be in serious trouble.....GO JACKETS!

Well 82 we should all stay home. The COY won a game last night so they will probably want to just give him the championship outright! He just beat the ODAC's number ONE team. Big deal, VT beat Duke last night also, but VT still sucks! Randolph doesn't suck, they have an above 500 basketball team.Good for them! As far as young ,well they have 6 or 7 upper classmen which Coach  Nunley has coached for 3 or 4 years.
Remember the awards were given out thursday, at that point Randolph had lost 9 games while VWC had lost three. I follow R-MC, but Macedo still gets my vote this year.

I agree with you 82 get on top and stay on top. Keep double digit distance if you can get it.

Randolph will bring a crowd for sure  & good for them.  We're happy they are having such a great tournament & may the best guys win today.  But remember we have ALL the Jackets families & fans here--- for the women's game first & then the men.  We'll make our voices heard against basically 2 home crowds.

One thing for sure, there's going to be a lot of BLACK & YELLOW (er, lemon!) in the house today!

Biggest concern for our men today?  They played til LATE... later than usual.  (Hope they got a good night's rest)

Good luck to all today & safe travels if you're on the road later on.

GO JACKETS!!!

Just giving Brian a hard time - sorry that subtlety didn't come through.  :)

I thought that was what you were doing Hasa.  I obviously did not mean my remarks as any type of slight to Guilford.  HSC just matches up better with them and VWC than they do with EMU and Macon.  There was also the whole psychological thing considering HSC beat both GC and VWC and lost to both EMU and Macon during the regular season.  It's going to be a long offseason.  It's been less than 48 hours and I am already going through withdrawal.  Good luck to the ODAC teams still playing (or hoping to still be playing).
