Mr. Warren,

I know u SAID you don't think Adair should be there yet, but you have to think it.  I mean it is his Junior year and he is already over the 1,000 point mark, something Doino and Peter, who were two of the best, didn't do until they were seniors.  1,000 points isn't easy to come by in 4 years and he has done it in 2 and some change.  That has to say something about his chances of a top ten nod now and later.  He is on pace to become VWC's all time leading scorer.

If you add Adair and look at the Marlins bench to see Dunleavy and Doino that's a ton of points.

Steelyglen ... Thanks for the karma.  I'll have to retool the picks, because my initial picks only included players that finished their careers in 2002 or later.  If I go back to include those that finished in 2000 or 2001, I've got to put T.J. Grimes in one of my top 3 spots on the list, and Ron Yuhasz is also among the Top 10 and I'd have to think about Chris Fox, who scored more than 1200 points during his career and was a hell of a point guard for the Tiger's 1999 national finalist team.

Justafan02 - Adair is an active player. My list includes only those who have graduated. I agree...Adair will become VWC's all time leading scorer when it's all said and done. PS. And, call me John, by the way.

This is my voting for POPC (Player of Partial Century).  I decided not to include any player who wasn't yet in his final season (or else I'd likely have Brandon Adair on this list):

1.  Jeff Monroe, HSC
2.  T. J. Grimes, HSC
3.  Justin Wansley, RMC
4.  Jared Mills, RMC
5.  Kyle Williford, BC
6.  Justin Call, E&H
7.  Ron Yuhasz, VWC
8.  Ricky Easterling, BC
9.  Brandon Randall, HSC
10. Kurt Bergmann, RMC

The first six players were All-Americans.

Steely,  I'll do you one better.  Here are the ODAC First Teamers and POY's for the 21st century.  *Also note that from the 2000 Class below, TJ Grimes had previously been on the 98 and 99 First Team (some will debate which century 2000 is in...I for one don't know, but it would weigh heavily on the TJ Grimes vote).  Also note that Justin Wansley has an excellent shot of being the only POY repeat candidate.  Though there are some really good second teamers each year as well, I'll probably throw in my "all century" team from the list below.

Algernon,

Nothing against K. Bergmann, but I don't think I'd put him in the top ten.  As a freshman and sophomore, Kurt looked like a potential world beater, but IMHO he tailed off a bit as a Junior and senior.  I'll come up with a list after some more thought and post it.

2000:
First Team:
G TJ Grimes (POY)...................... HSC*
G Chris Fox ....................... HSC
F Dennis Brown .................. LC

seminoletiger, thanks for that list, maybne i can make an atempt to pick 10 out of there even though i didnt come around until the 2002-2003 season.

in no particular order:
grimes, williford, yuhasz, mills, call, wansley, monroe, easterling, dennis brown (gotta get an LC guy in there!), pridgen/dunleavy (the 10th pick is where it gets iffy, so i just gave a tie to the two roanoke boys).

Based on the ODAC Record Books Data, here's one heck of a top 10:

The 6 POY's:
Grimes
Yuhasz
Williford
Mills
Call
Wansley
Three-time First Teamer:
Ricky Easterling
Two-time First Teamers:
Jeff Monroe
Robby Pridgen
Brandon Adair (likely in 2006)

If the year 2000 were deemed to be in the 20th century, then I would replace Grimes with Brad Dunleavy.  There were a heck of a lot of good 2nd teamers during the period, but I'm comfortable picking from the 5 best from each year (as chosen by their peers) for my top 10.

Eagleslam
My how you go on.......
Once again, I never stated that games were based on reputation. I stated that the predicitons of people on this board has a lot to do with past play and seasons. Which is what I would consider a teams reputation on the floor!

Eagleslam, I would hope that B.C is not thinking about HSC's final four trips! That has nothing to do with Saturday's game. No team has the priviledge of riding on a reputation when it comes to game time. Infact having a strong record over the past 10 years makes it that much harder to stay on top. I have no doubt that Bridgewater's gym is a tough place to play (memo: for the tigers- Lynchburg is a tough place to play as well as E&H, Roanoke, EMU, W&L, Guilford, RMC and VWC!) Don't worry the tigers know better than to take any conference game home or away for granted.

I also feel that Coach Leatherman is a good coach. I am sure he has the respect of every coach in this conference. I am not questioning that.

Eagleslam, B.C is a good program and I am sure in the past they have been one of the best if not the best in this conference. But... over the last ten years or even five they have not proven to gain a top three team in this leauge and keep it. Therefore it is hard for them to get the same respect as HSC, RMC, or VWC.
I really don't understand what you are asking for?
All I am saying is the bases for views on this site would naturally be built on a teams reputation over the past five or so years. How can you not a agree with that?
Once again you don't have to reaffirm to the tigers not to take Bridgewater lightly, they know far to well Saturday will be a tough one to come out with.
I do also feel that  Bridgewater came close to RMC and if they beat the tigers and remain steady through this half of the season and into the tournament, more people will be on board with your perspective. I am excited to see what happens over the course of this season.

Going to have to adopt JWW's picks as my own, too.  Still reeling over seminoletiger's work.  Very impressive.  I've enjoyed today' posts quite a bit.  All these names are a blast from the past.

I am pretty sure that if someone got National Player of the Year then they would defintely have to be at #1 on that list.  Justin Call without a doubt.

Seminole Tiger ... I see that you're not including the POYs in the later categories, since you've already mentioned them as a POY.  FWIW, here's my list of All-American's, three-time first teamers, and two-time first teamers:

All-Americans:
Grimes (2000)
Williford  (2002)
Mills  (2003)
Monroe (2003 & 2004)
Call  (2004)
Wansley  (2005 ... and 2006?)

Three-time First Teamers:
Grimes, Williford, Easterling

Two-time First Teamers:
Yuhasz, Mills, Pridgen, Call, Monroe, Wansley (3rd time in 2006?)

Player of the Year?  I think what you're referring to is that Call was the 2004 winner of the Josten's Trophy, which is given on the basis of basketball ability, academic ability and community service.  (Jeff Monroe was also one of the 10 national finalists in 2004.)  Call was ODAC POY, had a great GPA, and numerous community service achievements.  I have a great amount of respect for Call, who has impressed me personally the couple of times that I briefly spoke with him.  He is a class act, on and off the court.

Does the NCAA or D3hoops actually choose a "National Player of the Year"?  All I know is that the ODAC players who have been First Team All-Americans during the past 10 years are:  T. J. Grimes (2000), Kyle Williford (2002), and Jeff Monroe (2004).

Pat Coleman

The NCAA doesn't do any individual awards. We do not do a player of the year.
