Thanks for posting this, nnasid - Guilford hasn't published their MBB schedule yet, so this is news.  The Quakers played at Davidson in the 2008-09 season when Curry was still there.  We were a bit "outmanned", but represented well with Sanborn, Henson and Bonner.  I think the Wildcats prevailed 106-83 and we even held the lead briefly when the score was in the twenties and trailed by 12 at the half.

Really ugly display of no sportsmanship between Georgetown and a Chinese pro team yesterday. What a shame. All the potential for an opportunity to strenghten relationships and look what happens. No excuse for it on both sides.  ???

I saw the video, but can't be sure what was said or done (by both sides) that led to the melee.  It's too bad that an otherwise academically fine university such as Georgetown usually fields teams with many players who probably wouldn't even be admitted to Georgetown if they weren't talented basketball players.  If Allen Iverson and his basketball successors at Georgetown are "The Answer," then it begs the question, "Why?"  Collectively (and this includes the coaches and administrators who tacitly condone this behavior), they have helped create a national disgrace.  These players probably weren't up to the task of understanding this game as far more than defending their athletic turf on some asphalt court.  As an example, I like the good ol' boys I grew up with in rural southwest Virginia, but I'm not going to make them goodwill ambassadors to any culture they don't - and don't want to - understand.  It's just not good for anyone.

Wow, Nova, I know how much you want the Quakers season to get underway but you didn't have to make the earth move ;D

Hey, jww.  Guilford's affectionately known as the "Quakes" for a reason!

All kidding aside, I hope this didn't create any injuries or property damage along the mid-Atlantic.

Go Quakes!  :)

Yes, we had no damage in Winchester but our friends in Culpeper didn't fare as well...lots of damage, town is shut down, no school, etc. Hope they can recover soon.

Well, here's to a speedy recovery.  The 'quake was felt in Greensboro and surrounding areas.  I didn't personally know it happened, but there were documented reports of people who did.

Here's a story on Ben Stevenson, a HS guard at Western Pennsylvania's Quaker Valley HS, who's joining the Guilford College Quakers this fall:

rmc1982 - looks like orientation for new students was pushed back to today. According to the VA Pilot, the campus never lost power and about 300 students weathered the storm. A few trees down and a few leaks according to the Communications Dept. but they dodged the bullet big time. I sent an e-mail to Coach Macedo asking specifically about the Batten Center. I'll let you know if he responds.

Coach Macedo reports that all Marlins have reported. "There was little damage and things are back to normal."
PS. The Marlins should be spectacular this year ;D

I have no other facts, but evidently Tyler Harris of Dreher HS (Columbia, SC area) will be a freshman on Guilford's MBB team this fall.

I figure it will be you guys and the Tigers this year.......but don't count us out......The 'ol ball coach may have a few tricks up his sleeve for an upset or two this year for us.......perhaps even the Mighty Marlins...... ;) ;)
