Maybe <'s mom washed the outfir because it smelled?

Lynchburg is now 4-21 over their last 25 games.  Maybe I'm a slow learner, but I thought they could certainly win against the bottom half of the ODAC at home, so I picked them to win last night and picked them to win on Saturday at home against Washington & Lee.  If they don't win on Saturday, it'll be the last time I pick them to win this season.

An ODAC coach will be interviewed on the d3hoops radio basketball show this evening .... For info, check out the top banner at http://www.d3hoops.com/

Tiger Phil, Have you heard of the HSC team from 1999 that lost by a point to Platteville in the championship game? That was the most talented HSC squad, all apologies to the 2003 squad of Monroe & Company. Oh how easily they forget the great ones...

My guess would be a nice woodsy, evergreen scent.  What do you use to wash outfir - Pinesol?  :)

Jim - "mathmatically eliminated" does not equal a midseason RC and Moonpie.  You will just have to wait until the end of the season. I must begin negotiations with Scottie to make the payoff. He will certainly come up with a way to irritate the "victors" and make my bad wagers more palatable.

ok guys.  the "outfir" joke is getting a little stupid.  let scottie and his hurting hornets recover from their beating before you expect him to make any excuses.  (which i too am eager to hear).

Soothsayer ... You are so correct.  However, TigerPhil was only a senior in high school at the time, so he can be forgiven for not knowing about the exploits of the 1999 team, since it was such a long time ago (almost 7 years now) ...  ;)

The Tigers' loss in the national championship game was by only 1 point in double overtime.  I'm surprised there weren't a number of heart attacks in the stands during that 50-minute game.  That they came so close to winning the national championship is more remarkable because they played almost entirely without one of their starters, current Assistant Coach Kevin Garst, who was injured early in the game.  The Tigers reached the championship game against Platteville by beating previously undefeated Connecticut College by 16 points the night before.  Then, after finishing the year with 29-3 record, they began the following year with 26 straight victories.

I think Scottie already has started his excuses.  He said "Lynchburg didn't show up."  Couldn't have been that BC took them out of their game or just played well themselves.  Maybe because it was not for money, they didn't feel as if they had to show up.  Or maybe they saw a different suit, and knew they had no chance.  Or maybe they saw the same suit and figured going 0-2, but playing well, was okay.

Putting your trust in < (Scottie) to serve as a middle man to deliver the "goodies"?  Did last year teach you nothing?   :)  Hoping that < can irritate us sufficiently to compensate you for your bad wager?  Have you no shame?   :)

Matt Barnhart (kid)

After looking through Lynchburg's box scores, I can't find a real good excuse for why they played H-SC, EMU, and VWC tough and then didn't against BC.

Rebounding seemed to be the only problem in the BC game.  LC had 23 boards to BC's 41.  In the three aforementioned games that LC played tough in, the Hornets averaged 36 rebounds while their opponents pulled down an average of 33.

Bridgewater's 18-2 run in finish the first half and begin the second certainly didn't help matters.  After that, the Eagles kept it around a 20-pt lead the rest of the game.

3sdown and Jimmy,

You'll get what you want when you can give me a good reason for why I should satisfy your needs and desires.  ;D

Belated happy new year from Denbow's Roomie...

I apologize for my absence this year, but grad school has been a pretty big occupier of my time, and any free time from that is dedicated to wooing the lovely ladies of JMU.  Now on to business.

1) Having made his 4th annual trip to WVU's bowl game, the Roomie finally left with something to write home about!!  The game was unbelievable (I hope you all watched it), and Jim - so you know - we tried lighting up some couches in the Georgia Dome but apparently they don't allow that.  Who knew.

2) The Redskins are in the playoffs.  And they are record setters for offensive playoff futility.  If that doesn't make you warm and fuzzy, I'm not sure what will.

3) The GENERALS are turning the corner!!!

IMHO, the Generals will recover from last season's debacle and make the ODAC tourney this year.  The first win over Guilford was an adventure (running up a 25+ lead then squandering it to hold on at the very end) and quite frankly it was a game that W&L probably would've lost in previous years.  The Roanoke win was HUGE for ODAC positioning, besides beating a team that has owned W&L for a decade and more.

W&L has had a few forgettable games but beyond that they've played tight basketball throughout this season.  I think this team has matured a lot from last season, and making the ODAC tourney would be a good way to prove it.

In scoping the ODAC, it seems W&L has a decent shot.  With Lynchburg in their current troubles, and now with E&H losing their best shooter, the Gennies have an open shot for the 8th seed AT LEAST.

The way I see it, there are 2 huge games for the Gennies coming up...

1) @ Lynchburg -- Have to win it.
2) vs. Bridgewater -- the Eagles are certainly beatable this year and putting them away at home would be a big step.

Greg Bienamenn has really stepped it up probably into ODAC 2nd teamer range.  Mumper has also played well lately to take some scoring pressure off of Halkitis.  The only pause for concern is that Femi Kusimo, the team's most athletic and efficient player, is out with a foot.

Anyway, I'll be Gainesville Florida for an Ultimate tourney this weekend, so here's my best luck to the Gennies.  Beat those Hornets!

Who was on that 1999 Hampden-Sydney team and where are they today?
