Nice win for the Jackets - congratulations!

Guilford methodically kept building a lead over the Generals tonight, eventually winning 68-49.  I think W&L's last lead was 6-5.  Gabriel Lowder with another solid game for the Quakers with 23.  He's got 14 threes in his last two games.

Just walked in the house from the WILDNESS that was Crenshaw Gym tonight-Its almost a 2 hr ride for us in Hampton Roads(at least where I live) but it was well worth it!!
Not a very pretty game for either team but we'll take a W over the Fish any way we can get it!! Game was very aggressively played-LOTS of great defense and the usual CRAPPY ODAC officiating-at least it was both ways!!There were plenty of calls against BOTH teams that could have gone the other way (and should have)but this has been hashed over so many times I guess we just have to get used to the utter inconsistency that it is.A few observations though.....
VWC is QUICK.......I MEAN QUICK .....on defense!! If they had played the defense the whole game like they played the last 5 minutes the outcome would have been much different.Even though they didn't shoot too well(and RMC had something to do with that)with defense like that you don't need to score much!!
Marcus Badger is becoming a really good point guard for a freshman and the post play of freshman Akeem Holmes is impressive also.Andre Simon is a sophomore too-there are good times a'coming in Ashland for a few years!!IF THEY KEEP THEIR COMPOSURE that is!
I dont know what Chris Astorga did(I assume it was a 3 he took that Macedo thought was ill-advised with about 3 minutes left)but he got his tail CHEWED-but GOOD-from Macedo and never really looked for another 3 after that-and he had KILLED us up to that point!! The Marlins are quick, well-coached, and I dont want to see them any more if I don't have too......but the ODAC Tourney awaits.....If we both meet again it will be a WAR........but I don't think they will play that bad offensively again.Granted-we had alot to do with their defensive woes and our crowd was WILD!!We sat right in the middle of the student section and had to stand most of the game but we LOVED IT!All in all....a GREAT WIN for the Jackets!!

There is no way they can shoot that bad offensively again. Didn't even shoot 30% from the field. I knew it was gonna be a slugfest and RMC does a great job at making us play at their tempo and taking us out of a lot of things we want to do offensively. I only caught the beginning of the game online, but I already knew what type of game it was going to be during that loose ball scrum early in the 1st half. Got HSC on Saturday, and that game will be intense too because they're gonna come in thinking they owe us one. No rest for the weary fellas. Gotta suck it up and move on but I HATE losing to Randolph-Macon  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

^ You may hate it but you sure sound like a good loser this morning. :)

We agree it was a slugfest, never seen a more fierce game played in Crenshaw.  That loose ball with 8-9 players slugging it out on the floor was unbelievable.

One Marlin did get hurt later in the game (shoulder dislocation?)... hope he is okay.

It didn't look like we outrebounded the Marlins, but we did.  That was a key -- Adam Desgain grabbed quite a few of them.  Both teams kept turnovers low & the terrible refs did let them play, which probably helped Jackets more.

A huge win for the Jackets & congrats to the other winners last night.  Sorry we didn't see your question 1982 but we  didn't even know what was planned for YJC, which turned out to be very nice.   GO JACKETS!!!!

One team with two losses and three teams with three - who will win the ODAC?  I think it's mathematically possible for any of the four teams to be the regular season champion.

Its ok-We all met at Trackside Grill and had fun beforehand-GREAT Place!!-Kinda a "Dive" but a good one!! Will definitely go back! Agreed on the game-it was INTENSE physically!! The kid who got hurt was #14 Art Crew, from Williamsburg I think-yes it definitely looked like a shoulder dislocation!! Refs did not have control of the game and it almost got out of hand at a few points-then they try to take control and overcall the game in spots and thats not good either. That style of play for us is the only way for us to beat them-keep the score low and make it a tough defensive game and hope for the best at the end.Luckily for us-it worked out well. One thing is for sure-you can't try to run with them or you're TOAST! I saw alot of good things from the young kids and put a senior like Desgain on the line with 8.8 seconds to go in Crenshaw and he was $$$ in the bank!! Great game!!

I think VWC has it wrapped up if they win Saturday against Sydney. They got a relatively easy schedule after Saturday. They go to Lynchburg and host Emory & Henry and Washington & Lee. VWC won't just be able to roll out the ball and beat these teams by any means, but the Fish are going to be mighty heavy favorites in those three games. Heck, after the beat down they put on the Tigers here in Farmville, they should be a heavy favorite Saturday too...

Of the four teams that VWC still plays, I think HSC has the best chance of an upset.  In fact, if any other team besides Virginia Wesleyan wins the title, I think it essentially comes down to whether HSC can hand the Marlins a third loss.

This Sydney game will be big for VWC. The past 2 games haven't been their best so they will have to turn it around coming into the game Saturday! On RMC's website it says that last night's game was the sixth consecutive game between VWC that has been decided by 3 points or less so I can't be too upset about the loss seeing as if every game between these two teams for a while has been a battle!

Nice game, Jackets!  Looks like the Jackets are headed to their 5th straight 20-win season!  And, Duke won too!!!  Great night for the good guys!

On Saturday, I'm pulling for the Hampsters over the Virginians!

Of course you would, 78rmc, of course you would!

If the Marlins win tomorrow, they'll almost certainly be the regular season champion and the #1 seed in the tournament.

As a Tiger fan, here is my ideal scenario:

  • HSC defeats VWC tomorrow, giving the Marlins their 3rd loss.

  • Next Wednesday, HSC defeats Guilford, giving the Quakers their 4th loss.

  • Then HSC meets RMC next Saturday, with both teams sporting a 12-3 ODAC record.  The winner will end up tied with the Marlins at 13-3.  The winner will be 1-1 in head-to-head against the Marlins, so that won''t break the tie.  However, either the Tigers or the Yellow Jackets will win the tie-breaker against the Marlins, based on the point system.  (Basically, because both teams would have a win against Guilford, while the Marlins will not have beaten the Quakers).  In my ideal scenario, HSC defeats RMC to win the regular season championship and the #1 seed in the ODAC Tournament.
Nice scenario .... and hopefully, it will happen.

Brian Hamilton

If they beat VWC, GC, and Macon in back-toback-to back games, I think they have proved that they deserve it at the very least.  That Randolph 1-pt loss earlier really looms large right now!
