I have no reason to expect this year will be any different.

Who was on that 1999 Hampden-Sydney team and where are they today?

The 7 key players on that team were T. J. Grimes, Chris Fox, Jeremy Harris, Jack Jirak, Kevin Garst, Alex Robbins, and David Hobbs.  All were seniors/juniors.  Grimes, Fox, Harris, Jirak, and Hobbs were All-ODAC players, either in 1999 or 2000 (both years for Grimes and Fox).

Also getting some playing time throughout the tournament were Andy Habenicht (a senior) and Kevin Swann, Brett Thompson, Aaron Gibbs (all sophs), and Bobby Jackson (a freshman).

Macon wins tomorrow by 10-15.  Sydney is not quite there yet.  Wansley plays lights out.  Macon plays d like the good old days of the early 2000's

Yeah, that 1999 H-SC team was pretty special.  Tony Shaver was one heck of a coach at H-S, when he ran that "Baby Carolina" program.  Always tough to lose a coach of that caliber.

I hope Stevie 4544 is right.  I don't wanna have to drive to H-S to see a blowout.  To anyone planning to go, I would suggest getting there early.  This one is usually standing room only.

I also want to mention that their is a Southside Alumni event prior to the game.  Hopefully that will help with attendance figures for HSC since the student body is still on break.  I am personally bringing 8 juniors and seniors from the high school I teach at to tour the campus and attend the game!  They appear to be stoked and ready to go.

Hope every body travels safely and that we can avoid any tire slashing and fist throwing at the game!  Of course, you never know what to expect with HSC-RMC.

Coach Shaver was one of the best ever.

Coach Smith now has a 22-3 record since the fiasco at RMC on January 12 of last year.  Since then, over the last 25 games, the Tigers have lost to only 2 teams  .... with two losses to RMC and one to Roanoke.

I too want to tout the 1999 Tigers.  They were a very special team.  The class of 2000 was one of the best of all times.  Four 1000 point scorers in one class is impressive.  Of course, Shaver followed that class up with the class of 2004 - Monroe, Holman, Thompson, Wilson, and Randall.

David Willson was one of my favorite players from the 2003 Final Four team, for a variety of reasons, including his hustle on the court and overall character as an individual.  After David coached with Tony Shaver last year at William and Mary, he took a position as Assistant Coach at Elon University.  If you're interested, check out his Elon bio at http://www.elon.edu/athletics/profile.asp?id=1967&sport=mbb

Rhoades throughout his career has gone to see other teams play...Maybe less so in the recent past, but he is no stranger to ODAC gyms!  On a more serious note...I wish I could be present to see the battle between Kaase and Wansley on Wednesday night!  The question will be for both teams...Do you double?  Or will the coaches let these two big boys go at it?  Or perhaps one coach will employ different defensive tactics to disrupt the offense of the other team?  This game will be as much a duel between the coaches as it will be between the players!

To all HSC Fans:  What do you think Bubba will do defensively against Wansley and the crew?

To all RMC Fans:  What do you think Rhoades will do defensively against Kaase and the crew?

Any ideas from HSC or RMC fans on these issues?

Geez, I don't know.  I guess we just rotate our guys at forward, like Hawley and Krovic, and just have them stay on Kaase all night.  I do not think Rhoades will forget Mr. Kaase at all.  SO much for my deep, and erudite analysis. . . . . .  :-X

On a non-related subject, I don't know how many of you have looked ahead to lacrosse, but the ODAC is very well represented in the Pre-season All-American rosters, with three players on the 1st team, three on the second team, and seven in honorable mention.

Wish we could get a thread on this site to talk about it.  I noticed they added baseball (with no news), but I'd take a thread with no news. ;D

Kudos to Macon!  I know, I know...us Tigers rarely have anything complimentary to say about you guys, but just wanted to congratulate you on the improvements to your gym.  It's been a couple of years since I was last there, but I live in Hanover County and took my daughter to see the men's and women's games against E & H this past Sunday.  It's my guess that the improvements to the seating, floor, shot clock position, etc. are all fairly recent and I just wanted to complement the individuals responsible for the improvements.

I guess if there is only one negative aspect, it's that the actual seat-back chairs on the booster/alumni side of the gym might eliminate a few seats for the big game on Feb. 11!  ;D

I would guess the Tigers would put Tyler Murray on Wansley or show some zone before Kaase guards him.  Kaase was nearly unstoppable last night whether there was a double team and even some triple teams on him.  So far this year, Kaase has been unstoppable if he receives the ball down low, so I am also guessing that the Macon defense on Kaase will start with very aggressive guard on guard defense to make the entry pass more difficult.  EMU tried unsuccessfully to contest the passes at the receiving end; Macon might try a more aggressive defense at the passing end.  We might see the Macon guards daring the Tiger guards to put it on the floor with chest to chest D.  Of course, in basketball, as well as most other things, my expectations often go unmet.

Thanks a lot.  Saw it while we were getting shelled by you guys in football this past year.  Does look nice.  Hope to see a game this year there!

There are a couple of lacrosse sites already available, but I would suggest you check out laxpower.com

It will be interesting to see who guards him.  Murray can do a good job.  Is Jyri Laakso going to be well enough to play?

This may come out as something of a jumble, but it's the stats on all players currently averaging at least 8 minutes/game:
