On a non-related subject, I don't know how many of you have looked ahead to lacrosse, but the ODAC is very well represented in the Pre-season All-American rosters, with three players on the 1st team, three on the second team, and seven in honorable mention.

Wish we could get a thread on this site to talk about it.  I noticed they added baseball (with no news), but I'd take a thread with no news. ;D

I didn't think we would have much lacrosse talk around here since there are so many other places one can talk lacrosse, in my recollection.

If I'm wrong and there is definite interest in lacrosse, we can re-evaluate in a few weeks. I have no problem with it if there's a need.

Been doing more reading that posting lately....but just wanted to say something to everyone who was praising "Kid" for all of his informative posts earlier this week.  He has been doing that now on the football portion of the board for a few years now.  Get used to it.  He knows his stuff.  Even though i think he would admit he knows a heck of alot more about football than any other sport (because of obvious reasons) he can find any info on pretty much any subject pretty quick.  So, basically, get used to it basketball board...but I wouldnt imagine a bridgewaterbasketball.com would be coming anytime soon would it Kid?

i have some idea about why Lynchburg basically sucks this year, i wont voice them though. maybe we should just start playing the freshman and sophomores to prepare for next season and to see if they give us any better chance to win games. they can only do so much worse than what we have fielded for 90% of our games.

Scottie-

It disappoints me that you have thrown in the towel so early this season.  As stated before I didn't think LC would have a winning record within the ODAC or overall, but I thought they would be doing much better than they are.  I thought after the last 2 seasons that momentum was headed in the right direction, but I guess I was wrong.  It disappoints me b/c I would like to see a decent, healthy basketball program at LC, since I am a Lynchburg native.

Hopefully, things can indeed get turned around over the course of this season and progress can be made over the summer and into next season.

HSC and RMC Fans-

The game tomorrow night will be interesting and I think in particular there will be some different defensive ploys attempted by RMC.  These may come in the form of full-court pressure, zones, match-up zones, etc.  It will be interesting to see if this happens and if so how HSC handles these different looks.

And, I suspect Bubba will have Wansley doubled every time he touches the ball near the basket...Wansley at times has been prone to turnovers when double-teamed.  I suspect that Bubba will want to make RMC one dimensional...Perhaps another big man for RMC will step-up or maybe the guards will carry the load?

Traditionally, RMC under Rhoades handles the tough "deny" man to man of HSC.  I think a key will be how Justin Short and some of the other important freshmen/sophomore perimeter players handle the defensive pressure and the environment.  This may be the swing in the game!

Good luck to both teams....Should be another great game between the 2 teams!

Threes down
I couldn't agree more....
I think this one will be a battle against the guards.

Both teams now have tough guys down under which will have to be stopped, you will have to doubled team Wansley and you will have to double Kaase.
Guards will be left open I am sure Mike will have his team ready!
I will say this Premhus is due a big game. Will see if the tigers can make it happen. I know Smith and his team are well prepared.

Today's Roanoke Times carried a little profile of W&L's improvement.  It seems their win against Roanoke got the attention of the writer.

I certainly understand the interest of the Macon and Sydney fans about today's game at Fleet, but there are three other games on the ODAC schedule also worthy of note:

BC at VWC.  We'll see if the Eagles who flew high against Lynchburg can continue play at a high level.  If they do, and the Marlins play below their potential...

GC at RC.  Each team need a win to reverse disappointment with its last game.  Two teams enter Bast, only one team wins.  Genero, are you making the trip?

W&L at EMU.  We'll see if the Generals are serious spoilers in the ODAC this year.  The emus are likely to be in a nasty mood after the drubbing at Hampden-Sydney.

If Swickwrath wants to turn things around at Lynchburg, he might want to start by getting rid of his second-guessing team manager, Scott Harris.

Tigerfan

Although I agree that the 99 Tigers were a better team, Tigerphil has a point about the 03 Tigers having more talent, if you look at the number of talented players.  When the Tigers took the floor in 02-03, these guys were on the bench: Matt McKeag, Jay Patrick, Andy Jackson, Mike Thompson, Brian Gunn and either David Willson or Jason Holman.  Sometimes finding the right blend or getting  consistency in play when there were so many guys who deserved p.t. was tough for Coach Shaver.  Macon might be experiencing some of that now with the freshman class they have.

Jimmy...if > goes does the lucky "outfir" stay to be passed along to the next sucker...er...Hornet team manager. I mean, afterall, the "..."fir"...as the multitudes here in Raleigh affectionately now referred to it as...is 2-1 in the moral victory category...which is far better than the 1-13 actaully posted on the ODAC website. Just curious!  Maybe Travis Crown has another semester of eligibility left so that he can single-handedly pull the Hornets from the depths of hell! If you don't believe he could do by himself ask his dad!

steelyglen

Macon/Sydney fans...think we'll see another offensive jugernaut like a few years ago when the if you had the "under" on 90 total points you won...or will this game actually get into triple digits. Without question, the two best teams in the conference...the winner stands alone...well at least for a couple or three weeks...don't you love ODAC hoops?

Unfortunately, I will NOT be able to attend the RMC/HSC game tonight in person.  Will it be broadcast on the internet?

HoopsterMom--Yes, I know R-M will carry it on their web site.  Just go to "Athletics" and follow the links.  You may have to download something, though.  I'm pretty sure H-S will have the same offer, too.

H-S games are usually aired on the local AM station out of Farmville, WFLO, though that can be a bit hard to pick up if not in the area! ;)  A friend of mine, Denis McCarthy, used to do some color commentary, but I'm uncertain as to whether he still does.

I know he's a H-S alumnus/zealot to the end of days!!

To Mr. Coleman and Hasanova--one last thing on lacrosse and I'll drop the subject.  I have tried the other boards, but they are generally more dedicated to the DI stuff, which is understandable, but lamentable.  I love the passion of the people that post here, and I can't find it anywhere else.

The ODAC has 4 teams nationally ranked, Roanoke at # 6, Lynchburg at # 8, H-S at # 16, and W&L at # 17.  These schools are good every year, and VWC and R-M have good teams once in a while ( I know R-M got 8 votes for 2006).

But having said that, back to hoops!! ;D

A more direct link to R-MC's web broadcast for tonight:

http://www.sportsjuice.com/broadcaster2.aspx?bid=NTg%3d-Zz%2bY%2b1HkwNU%3d

Marty Wilson and Andrew Price will be on for the broadcast . . .

We're also planning on doing the Saturday, February 4th game at Va. Wesleyan.

Other than that, just home games -- until the ODAC tournament, which we're usually able to cover.

Enjoy listening if you can't be there!  R-MC SID will be making the trip -- I'm the driver for the cheerleaders!
