Looks like it's Wheaton, VWC, Whitewater and Whitworth. Whitworth being in the mix might swing it back closer a MW team hosting since it's a pretty long and expensive flight from WA to VA.

Anyway, Pat sounded pretty sure on the Edgewood - Wheaton broadcast that Wheaton or Whitewater will host, so what do I know.  :-X

If/When it happens I think VWC is reasonably entitled to be pissed. Just my two cents.
Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan

Of course we do want to host next round... our fans have been great but I don't think you will hear too much grumbling, at least not from me if VWC has to travel, especially knowing the NCAA's tendencies when it comes to costs... we had to travel last year after hosting the first 2 rounds.

Myself and the rest of the Whitworth faithful will backhand the first poster who complains about not hosting...

My bet is that all 4 teams are shipped to Wheaton. It only makes sense that the least deserving team gets home court advantage in the DIII tourney

Hah, touche. Though I won't be complaining about not hosting if Wheaton hosts. :P

The location has got to be Whitewater or VWC, I think, and I'd have to bet on Whitewater.  Excellent record at 25-4, #1 in last regional ranking, and they have a great record against tournament participants, including a 2-0 record against other Sweet Sixteen teams:

11/30    vs. Illinois Wesleyan •    W, 65-53
12/14    at UW-Stevens Point * •    L, 79-77
12/21    vs. Whitworth •    W, 76-61 @ San Antonio, Texas
1/4    vs. Edgewood •    W, 79-51
1/7    vs. UW-River Falls * •    W, 84-70
1/25    vs. UW-Stevens Point * •    L, 71-60
2/18    at UW-River Falls * •    W, 55-53
2/26    vs. UW-River Falls •    L, 64-58
3/2    vs. Northwestern (Minn.)    W, 83-68
3/3    vs. St. Thomas    W, 91-62

UW-Whitewater is not terribly far (only 52 miles) from the Milwaukee airport, Wisconsin is more centrally located than Virginia for a bracket that includes a team coming all the way from the west coast, and Whitewater is only a 94 mile bus ride from Wheaton, so diehardfan's Wheaton crowd would all be there.

I hope that I'm wrong and that the sectional is at the Beach.

Signed up to share a link to a nice ODAC-related article from the Roanoke paper a couple of weeks ago that some of the regulars on this board may not have seen. http://www.roanoke.com/sports/college/wb/305155
The W+L kid calls Donald Vaughn a "freakish athlete" and from what I read he's right!  Good luck to VWC, wherever you go.

DeWayneCarter

Donald is an athlete... put down a pretty nasty two handed dunk over a 6'8" kid from St. Mary's last night

The Marlins will play Whitworth on Friday evening at UW-Whitewater.

So, anything to add about VWC other than they are really good?

If Whitworth plays like they did last weekend they probably don't make it to Saturday night. They are going to have to limit the turnovers and shoot at their season average as a team (50% FG and 40% 3pt). Wish I could see this one in person. VWC has been a great program for some time, pre season #1, etc. Too bad we can never get a game like this in Spokane  :o

Very athletic.  Love to run.  The games they've lost this year have been half-court games where the tempo was slowed way down to about a 60-point game.

VWC was actually supposed to play in a tournament at Whitworth a few years back... idk what caused this to not happen though.

But VWC is a very athletic team that loves to run, but defends well in the half court. They are also a very tough team to beat when they are hitting jumpers. They may not have a traditional back to the basket guy but Donald Vaughn is a pretty good finisher and great shot blocker. And DJ Woodmore, their other top gun, is a very crafty and athletic guard as well. He was the conference POY and averaged around 17-18 a game this year.

algernon

They are FAST.  I've seen them play twice this year, at Hampden-Sydney and in Salem, and many Tiger fans agree with me that this year's Marlins team, when playing their best game, are probably even better than VWC's 2006 National Championship team.

marlinpg10

509 rat,
If you have seen VCU play on TV then thats what the Marlins are like when there playing there best. Not 1 very good back to the basket player but a couple that are pretty solid. They all Shoot the 3 accept for the vaughn kid and he might be capable if left open...  When they are Firing on all cylinders they are nearly impossible to beat. I would love to flash back and have the 2006 team play this team. Would be a great game. And btw the 2007 Marlin team was probably better than the 2006 team but just met a very good and big amherst team...

DeWayneCarter

I think the 07 team was better than the 06 team... the 06 team didn't have another scorer like Stephen Fields coming off the bench!

jdubyadubya

C'mon Dwayne....just remember who started it all, the 2005 squad with the ODAC championship! What a great team!! ;D
