What's Ben doing these days?
Ben Strong played the 2011-12 season with the Iowa Energy of the NBA D-League after three professional seasons in Israel.  Ben and Tyler Sanborn were seen walking together along the home side at Guilford's September 29 Homecoming football game versus W&L.  Since Ben's father is a Native American, his activities are regularly reported on Native American news sources:

Been quiet here for over a week. I enjoy reading people's comments and observations. I have a question for you knowledgable ODAC fans. Previous comments suggest that folks see R-MC as a force in the conference this season. How do you think replacing two very experienced senior guards, Croskey and Desgain, with sophomores and freshmen will affect the team and its potential for success?

^ We're no experts... but with 7 contributing sophomores, an exciting transfer student in 6'7" Joe Hassell, Giggetts & Cole our seniors, with Simon & Robinson each having 2 years strong playing experience:  we like our chances & can't wait to check out the 2 freshmen.

Not to mention the coaching.    :D

GO JACKETS!!!

I see 3 freshmen on the roster.  I hope your assessment of Joe Hassell is correct, but he's been somewhat of a journeyman, but hopefully he's found a home at RMC.  He left Indian River HS in 2010 headed to DI Norfolk St, ended up at DII Chowan, made an appearance in about 50% of their games and was productive.  No indication (that I can find) that he played anywhere last year.

But, as you've said, I like this team.  Badger, Simon, Cole, Holmes, and Giggitts should have a great year.  A lot of talent and balance on this team and Joe may be the last piece of the puzzle.  I'd like to see more floor time from Fromang, Sullivan, and Hamilton.

It's going to be fun!!!

WOW, was not expecting HSC or RMC in the top 25.  Plus, RMC starts the season with 2 Top 25 teams and another in the receiving votes.  Tough opening schedule!

RMC has exhibition at Crenshaw vs. Richmond...11/7.  100 years brings them together.

They start at the best opening event in Division III... can't expect it to be that easy ;).

Absolutely, and I'm very pleased that RMC was invited to participate.  I'm excited to see how well this team does.  Traditionally, RMC has attempted to play stiff competition in the early season, and this is yet another opportunity.  Will be a great tourney, and it'll get very big, very quickly over the next few years.

I agree -- having a D-I program in your building for an exhibition is a rare event for Division III and I could see that being considered the best opening event. ;)

Happy to see H-SC in top 25 again after a number of years away - with 14 returning lettermen and 3 top recruits, should be a good year - they start with an exhibition with Div II St. Augustine from tough CIAA on 11/5/12 at H-SC - looking forward to kick-off tonight in Richmond for H-SC Roundball Club annual dinner - honoring ODAC 2002-03 champions coached by Tony Shaver

Hope it's not inappropriate to post this here. Pat, you can take it down if you want. DIII News has VWC as its pre-season #1, with R-MC as a team to watch and, hard to believe, no mention of H-SC. I don't know much about DIII News and am not willing to pay for it when we have this great site for free, but what little exposure I get to it, it seems to me they are off the mark compared to the knowledgeable folks who run D3hoops. http://www.cciw.org/custompages/CCIW_Links/General/Misc/D3N2012FactSheet.pdf.

I'm very excited to watch the progression of SU's program under the direction of Coach Pryor!

Checking out the new feature by d3hoops.com on each conference makes it very clear that the best conference in the South Region is the ODAC!! 44-22 overall since 2000 in the NCAA Tournament..
