Congratulations to the Marlins on being ranked number one this week in the poll.  While it is quite an honor to be selected number one, it makes the target that much bigger on their backs.  Here's hoping they can live up to the ranking.  Go Marlins!
Ditto.  It raises the level of the whole league when one of our own is the top-ranked team.  :)  Quakers come calling this Saturday - hope we can compete!

You are exactly right, FISHTANKFAN. Four of the Tigers' six wins were against teams that are presently winless, with 4-5 losses apiece.  The only teams the Tigers have beaten so far that have been able to win even one game are Mary Washington and Wesley.  The only team they've beaten that has a winning record is Wesley!

Between now and 1/1/13, the Tigers have 5 games scheduled, and only 2 are against teams that currently have a winning record (Roanoke on Saturday and Johns Hopkins on 12/30).  It wouldn't be surprising if the Tigers are 11-1 by the first of the year, but still waiting to play an opponent as tough as VWC, Guilford, RMC, Randolph, EMU, or Lynchburg.  The Tigers definitely need to win their next 5 games if they want to be in a position that they can afford a couple regular season ODAC losses in Jan/Feb, and still have no more than 5 losses if they fail to win the ODAC Championship, which would likely get them a Pool C bid and into the tournament with something like a 23-5 record or better.

This is an extremely good team that is better than the team that went 1-1 against the Marlins last year.  If they continue to improve over the course of the season, they will be able to go very deep in the tournament, as could the Marlins.  I'm sure that the only regular season Marlins/Tigers game (Wednesday, February 13, @ HSC) will be very exciting for both teams' fans.

I think the Tigers are in a very good place right now.  They're playing like the team that was pre-season #2 in the conference (upper tier).  Like nearly all teams, the cupcake games are scheduled at the beginning of the season and we've handled them quite well, with the exception of NCWC's tip at the buzzer.  In those early games everyone on the team has had plenty of minutes and performed.  The Tigers are seeing great play from the guys coming off the bench and that will be very beneficial when the meat of the schedule arrives.  If the Tigers keep up their efforts with the starting five and the other guys coming off the bench, they'll really be a force to be reckoned with come January and February.

Lynchburg brought their A game and gave the Marlins almost all they could handle last night.  Their defense was tenacious and forced VWC to take a lot of outside shots.  Both teams were riddled with fouls and the lead changed hands right up until the last few minutes.  DJ Woodmore got his 1000th point and led all scorers with 22 points.  Along with DJ, the Marlins now have 2 other starters who have reached the 1000 pt. plateau,(Chris Teasley and Chris Astorga) and with every team trying to be the first to take the Marlins down, they are going to have to be at their best each game.  Lynchburg will go along way this year.  This is the best I have seen them play.  The Marlins were very grateful to leave with a win.  Another good game coming Saturday against Guilford.  Go Marlins!!!

FTF - Saturday's contest with Guilford could very well be an early season determiner of what's to come. Stand by for more :o

I'm sure the Marlins remember their loss to Guilford in the Batten Center last season. Should be a good one!

Algernon,
If I recall correctly the tigers were 0-3 vs the marlins last year not 1-1.

The annual Guilford/Greensboro "lovefest" at the Quakers' Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse tonight at 7:30.  Boxscore and police log will be available around 10.

Final Guilford 80, Greensboro 61

A strong inside game and three point shooting propel the Quakers over Greensboro tonight, 80-61.  Guilford essentially put it away in the first half pushing out to a 45-27 advantage.  Quakes dominated the boards 49-28 and shot 9 of 17 beyond the arc.  Five Quakers in double figures led by freshman Zeb Richardson's 16 off the bench.  He has great hands and finished 8 of 11 from the field.  Greensboro was led by Luqman Tijani's 18.

GCQ improves to 5-1 while GCP falls to 3-3.  Let's go "fishing" this weekend at VWC and see what happens!

I'm sorry, but time has a way of moving on faster each year ... !  It was actually 2 years ago that the Tigers and Marlins split the 2 regular season games.

The year before that, the Tigers won both regular season games and then lost to the Marlins in the ODAC semifinals.

Algernon - Happy 2000th Post Day! Only one who's more prolific than you, it seems, is Senor Chevrolet Nova  ;D

JWW ... A belated thanks for your Happy 2000th Post Day wishes.  it's possible that Hasanova has to engage in a greater number of boring conference calls than I do ... ;)
