Interesting how the Guilford - H-SC game went - H-SC had 2 more 2 pointers than Guilford and one less 3 pointer so the whole difference was at the foul line (17 points) except when you look at "shots taken".  H-SC had so many more opportunities but they could not get them to drop.  As mentioned - to miss so many dunks is strange.  National rankings out for 6th week - Randolph at 24th - H-SC at 29th - Guilford at 32nd and VWC at 33th. As predicted - we now start to knock each other off!!

Congratulations to Randolph for cracking this week's Top 25 - just a hunch, but I bet this is the Wildcats' first national ranking!

Kudos are also in order for Guilford's freshman center, Zeb Richardson, who was named ODAC POTW.

Nicely done, gentlemen.  This is my 5,555th post, so high-fives for everyone!

Its going to be very close but I'm going Randolph they're hot right now and Nunley probably the best coach in the ODAC is going to have them ready to play against a very tough VWC team, the key to this game is Colton Hunt if he doesn't put up 20-30pts they will lose

Randolph is now ranked so I will take VWC at home.  8-)

GC over HSC 68-54.  HSC shot the ball poorly.  Guilford was physical with thevHSC bigs and often had three players around them after the post entry pass.  GC was hitting outside shots and they will be hard to beat when they do that.  HSC shot poorly from the foul line.  Richardson for GC is really good.
I first suggested Zeb Richardson in early December as "someone to watch" this season - especially for ODAC ROY.  Everything I've seen over the first 13 games certainly reinforces that.  Consider:

Games played: 13
Games started: 4
Minutes per game:  20.1
Rebounds per game: 8.3
Points:  153
Points per game: 11.8
FG%: 53.3  (64 of 120)
FT%: 65.8  (25 of 38)

Are there other ODAC rookies having similar success?

Hard to win a game against a solid opponent like Guilford when you keep missing the dunks you normally put down, hit 6 of 28 from behind the arc, and only sink 8 of 18 from the foul line!  The Tigers couldn't hit their shots and I think their confidence was a problem as they played behind the whole game.  Harrison was 3 for 9 and our point guards (Murray, Hargrove) were a combined 1-11 from behind the arc.

Is it something about the gym at Greensboro, with its unusual visuals????  It has probably been 10 years since the Tigers won at Guilford!  Fortunately, the Tigers and Quakers play again during the regular season.

Mike Murray may be a candidate for ROY:
Games played: 13
Games started: 7
Minutes per game:  17.5
Assists per game: 4.4
Assist/Turnover Ratio: 2.0
Steals/game:  1.8
Points per game: 6.2
FG%: 43.9%  (25 of 57)
3PtFG%: 37.0%  (10 of 27)
FT%: 87.5%  (21 of 24)

"unusual visuals" to say the least! It is a subterranean experience at best, like playing in a huge beamed barn underground.  Ask old #44 and the Marlins what they thought about Ragan Brown.  :o

I know some of the Tigers (such as George) have played at Guilford before, but this was a first for Murray.  The east end of the court is closed in a traditional manner, but the west end is open with another court behind it.  I could see how that might throw someone off on a jump shot, but little to do with a missed dunk.  :)

When George played the Quakers as a freshman in 2010 versus the Sanborn/Henson/Bonner/Pittman Guilford team, it was one the 10 or 12 best games I'd ever seen at GCQ.  In fact, former WFU and South Carolina Head Coach Dave Odom (Guilford '65) publicly said it was the best game he saw that season.  Dave, by the way, was also at the Jan. 5th GC/HSC game.  Many Tiger fans will remember Dave's son Ryan at HSC and now on the staff with the (UNC) Charlotte 49ers.

CONGRATS to Randolph on the Top 25 ranking.  It's probably just the start of good things to come for them.

GO JACKETS!!!

Certainly looking forward to seeing #33 Va. Wesleyan vs Bridgewater. I want to see if BC men's hoops is truly back or still just above average.

I had a talk with Coach Macedo last Saturday at Shenandoah and he said that while all the ingredients are there for a stellar team, they just can't put them altogether yet. Saturday will tell the tale.

A friend of mine (and a former Guilford starter in their NAIA era) said he traveled with the Quakers to VWC in December.  He said the Marlins are really great athletes, but may lack a little control when the game requires more than a fastbreak approach.  I think the Marlins can be beaten in the ODAC - most likely if you avoid a run and gun approach.
