Should be a good game tonight at the Batten Center bewtween two scrappy teams, the Fish and the Fighting EMUs, VWC is coming in at 10-4 overall and EMU is 10-5. Might see an OT game tonight ::)

Big day in the ODAC today:

Guilford takes down EMU 77-66
W and L loses big to HSC 41-61
#24 Randolph loses to VWC 66-72
E and H beats SU 66-56
Lynchburg beats down Roanoke 86-68
Bridgewater stuns at RMC 66-62

I'm stunned at the Macon score, either they had a really off day or Bridgewater is better than I thought

I watched the R-MC/Bridgewater game online. I don't think it was an "off day" for the Jackets, and Bridgewater is a decent team. I wondered back in November what kind of season the Jackets would have without any proven guards. And I was surprised by the pre-season #24 ranking, Not blaming the guard play in particular for the way the season has evolved, it just seems that there is some intangible ingredient missing that a team needs to get from average or slightly above to good or very good.

We're just not that good this year. :-\  If I recall correctly, we had possession for more than enough time to make a final shot against Randolph, and we failed to take it.  It's getting close to mid-season and things haven't improved.  There is still plenty of time to turn it around, but now would be nice.

^^^ I am using the very clever and effective up arrows (^^) that 2RMCFANS use to acknowledge a reply to the post above. It saves the clutter that comes from quoting a post that already contains multiple quoted posts.

I appreciate Jacketlawyer's candor. I certainly think the talent is there to have won several more games, but I am sticking with my theory about a missing intangible ingredient. A coach usually knows what that is and can attempt to address it in multiple ways but won't necessarily get the desired result. Hopefully whatever needs to change will change and it will lead to some good results over the final 10 games of the season.

That missing intangible is basketball smarts!!

I just hope that they don't find anything against HSC tomorrow or later in the season!  ;)

The Gennies need a win tonight. Then again so does 'Noke. I'm going with the home team.

I'm predicting wins for all of the home teams:
Randolph-Macon @ Hampden-Sydney
Roanoke @ Washington and Lee
Randolph @ Guilford
Emory and Henry @ Lynchburg
Shenandoah @ Bridgewater

The home teams won.  Each win was by 10+ points, except for Guilford's close win over Randolph.

The Yellow Jackets were better than any Tiger opponent I've seen this season, but I didn't get to the game at Guilford.  RMC should win most of the rest of their games this season and get seeded 4, 5, or 6 for the tournament.  Always exciting in Fleet when the Tigers and Jackets play and tonight was no exception.  Big crowd!  Lots of students!  Great to have a fairly comfortable lead through much of the 2nd half ... anywhere from 4 to 17 points.

Will somebody please defeat the Marlins?  The Tigers don't get a shot at them for 4 more weeks.

Next game is at Randolph and I don't think the Tigers have ever won there!

Congrats to the Tigers on a strong win.  At one point in the 1st half, H-SC FG% was 70%.  That's incredible.

Glad the Jackets put more on the floor last night to make it a game but most of the Jackets' losses have been much closer so that's not a great sign.

Congrats to all the home team winners last night & with the Jackets next game again on the road -- the message is clear; gotta beat the home team this Sat. to stay above 500.

GO JACKETS!!!

History of HSC against Randolph ... the home team always wins:

Jan. 28, 2009    at Randolph        L, 57-49

Jan. 27, 2010    Randolph        W, 75-66

Dec. 8, 2010    at Randolph        L, 74-57
Jan. 29, 2011    Randolph        W, 71-61

Dec. 7, 2011    Randolph        W, 75-53
Jan. 28, 2012    at Randolph              L, 61-60

Two years ago, the Tigers lose by 17 there and then beat them by 10 at home.  Last year, the Tigers beat them by 22 at home and then go to Randolph and lose once again, by a point.  Hopefully, the Tigers are ready to get a win in their gym.

Reference H-SC/Randolph - the problem is calling it a "gym" - it looks little a Middle School PE exercise room.  The players feet on the sidelines are on the court and the fans feel the heat of the players running up and down the floor.  It is bright also in a strange way.  Good year for H-SC to break the string.

RMC plays hard but they have no offense at all. Layups & foul shots is all they have; why wouldn't everybody play a zone against them ? I enjoyed watching the game, RMC hung in there when it appeared they might get blown out, but that certainly was no surprise.

Good luck to all on Saturday.
