Emory really overtook Randolph 77-56.  They were up 41-27 at the half.  Hunt finished his season with 14 points.  Emory had 3 in double figures with Davis at 25.

VWC beats DVC 76-61

HSC loses to Cabrini 78-80

HSC does lose 78-80.  Lewis had an open three off a missed Cabrini free throw with about 4 seconds that rattled out and HSC couldn't get the board. It was a great shot and just didn't fall.

I watched the entire game and was disappointed with the H-SC performance....turnovers, missed free throws and letting Cabrini get too many offensive rebounds beat them, plain and simple.....Dont know whether or not Dee Vick had them properly prepared......this , by his own words in the Richmond paper today was what they needed to do and they didn't do it!!.....At home....they beat themselves!.....You HSC guys can say what you want but thats what I saw.....and ....For ONCE.....I was pullin for you guys!.... Congrats on a good season that could've been ALOT better!! Not to take anything away from Cabrini....QUICK and powerful guards and guys who crashed the boards.....but nothing they haven't seen before.......

Good game tonight at VWC. DJ not at full speed but he looked good. Good fan support.

Actually, the Tigers had fewer turnovers than Cabrini and hit 2/3rds of their free throws, which isn't bad.  The general feeling among HSC fans was that Cabrini is the best team the Tigers have seen this season, certainly as good or better than Virginia Wesleyan.  The Cavaliers are strong and fast and have multiple weapons.  Aaron-Moss was the best guard I have seen on an opponent's team since the Tigers faced Horace Jenkins at William Patterson in the 2001 tournament.  He's fast, and rebounds and passes well ... and felt nearly unstoppable at times last night, ending up with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists.  This is pretty much the same Cabrini team that lost the national championship to UW-Whitewater by 3 points last year, and it will not be at all surprising to see Cabrini back in Salem for the Elite Eight in 3 weeks.  The Tigers were well-prepared and played very well.  Greg's shot with a few seconds left was just an inch or so too long, reminding me of Jeff Monroe's 3-point shot at the end of the 2004 2nd-round game at Franklin and Marshall College.  It was a great game, and a crowd in Fleet that was even louder than any home ODAC game this season.

We got to the Bronx & it was GREAT!  Thanks to our diehard alum fans & players' families, we had almost an equal crowd at Lehman-- so we made it known.  Their student section seemed surprised.   ;D

R-MC had a severe offensive lull in the 2nd half but as has been said, they kept their focus & got the job done.  Giggetts almost couldn't miss (19 w/5-5 FTs) & Badger (14 w/6-6 FTs) was sensational last night & Sullivan hit a couple of those long heartstopping 3's (scoring 10).  Many other significant contributors especially defensively-- Stevens had 19 TO's to our 11 although they beat us on the boards.

Gotta give Coach Davis a big congratulations on his 4 years so far.  The next step will not be easy (probably WPI in Mass.) but Davis appears to know how to get the guys ready for the big games (low TO's & nearly 85% from the FT line).

Congrats to the Marlins, glad that Woodmore is back on the court for the postseason.  As for Randolph & H-SC... both had great seasons.  Congrats to all for the job they did for the ODAC this season.

Gooooo JACKETS!!!!

Greg Lewis had a great game last night, with 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Tiger fans will be happy to see him return next year as a junior.  Leon Hargrove had a great game and will also be back for 2 more years.  HSC will bring back almost everyone who got lots of playing time last night (seniors accounted for only 50 of the 200 minutes played), so the future is bright, even though we'll miss the contributions of Harrison George, Fletcher Lumpkin, Patrick Corrigan, Alex Potopov, and Randall Ward, each of whom had a solid career.

Without a doubt, Tiger fans will greatly miss watching the play of All-American Harrison George, who is probably the most complete player that Hampden-Sydney has put on the floor in the past 25 years.  He was brilliant so many times over his career, and he had another stellar performance last night.  Against a very tough opponent, Harrison had 25 points on 8 for 14 shooting, to go with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals.  His was a fabulous career by any standard, with 1793 points, 738 rebounds, 216 assists, and 184 steals in 106 games.

Harrison is one of an outstanding set of current seniors that Dee Vick recruited during his first year as coach at HSC.  Harrison, Fletcher, Patrick, Randall, and Alex joined a Tiger team that was only 14-14 in the year that they were recruited, a team that remained 13-13 in their freshman year.  The Tigers have steadily improved since then!  This year's seniors improved to 17-10 in their sophomore year ... and then finished 19-8 as juniors, almost doing well enough to get themselves into the NCAA tournament ... and now the Tigers have gone 23-5 this year, finishing as ODAC regular-season co-champs, with a #16 national ranking.  This was absolutely a blowout year for the Tigers and, without any question, the best year the Tigers have had since 2003-2004, when the HSC team led by Monroe and Randall went 25-5 and lost in the final seconds of the NCAA 2nd round on that just-too-long shot at F&M.

Over the past 5 years, Coach Vick has brought HSC basketball back to where the Tigers were 9 years ago:  Hampden-Sydney is once again a nationally ranked team that is playing an NCAA tournament game in front of a packed and very loud crowd at Fleet Gymnasium.

The way the NCAA sets up the D3 tournament is so unlike the way it does the D1 tournament that it makes it tougher for good teams to advance sometimes. I have to wonder what would have happened if Cabrini had hosted R-MC and Stevens had traveled to H-SC, which in some ways makes just as much sense given the records and schedules of those four teams. Those would not have been unrealistic pairings from a travel standpoint. And I'm sure Cabrini would have liked another shot at R-MC after getting blown out by the Jackets in the first round of the 2010 tournament, when this year's seniors were freshmen.

Since D3 doesn't give the NCAA revenue the way D1 does, I guess they are looking at the money more than at what makes sense from a competitive standpoint. If the NCAA wanted a D3 tournament that was based more on real seedings the pairings would probably be a lot different, even more so than the possible switch of R-MC and H-SC I mentioned above, and we'd see a lot more widespread travel.

Idk about that one, VWC beat Cabrini by 37 this year
