If you knew who "marlin faithful" was, you would know that he has a very good understanding of he's talking about in this matter. And that's not me taking up for him bc he is a VWC fan, but its me knowing who he is and what kind of information he has access to, but hey that's the beauty of posting online! Everybody doesn't always know exactly who these posters are!

Does anyone really think HSC has a full boat reserved for a basketball player ? Come on guys, really !!!!
NCAA would have been all over that long ago. I'm very familar with the Davis Fellowship and trust me, has nothing to do with basketball or any other sport; goes to the most impressive guy in the enrolling freshman class based on the critria set by the Davis family and the advisory board managing the selection process. So if any of you have a truly outstanding Son that is well rounded and happens to be a great student, he has an opportunity to receive a free education by applying for this fellowship.

DeWayne - have you clicked on the links provided already? Only one basketball player can be found in recent years... but if he knows something these students who have gotten the scholarship don't... please inform...

The best job in VA is hands down CNU. State school with D1 facilities and in the 757 area and close to richmond and n.va for recruiting purposes. Yes vwc has traditionally been known to be easier to get into but every program gets a few kids in that others were not able to get in. CNU got a kid in around 5 years ago that VWC wasn't able to get in and i know that VWC got in a couple of kids that RMC was not able to get in. And not saying any names but HSC has a kid on their current roster that was under a 2.0 in hs and below a 760 SAT so dont try and put them in their own category. Also HSC is able to give out the Davis Fellows scholarship which covers all tuition for 4 years. They give out 1 of these each year to a basketball player. Imagine if every ODAC school had 1 full scholarship to give out every year. Say what you want but each school has it perks and each coach is finding its niche and using that to their advantage and that is why the ODAC has become such a strong conference. Good Luck Marlins and Yellow Jackets this weekend. I will be in the "Fish Tank" to support my marlins this weekend.

As someone who works at the College and had a direct relationship to the nominees for the Davis Fellowship, I'll say that you're so far from being right on this.  The Davis Fellowship hasn't even been awarded since 2009.  A current senior is the last person to receive the Davis Fellowship...a baseball player who has played in only one game this season with one AB.  To give you a little more information on this young man, he's a Head Resident Advisor, near the top of his class and he's a Truman Scholar (http://www.truman.gov/news).  The Davis Fellows from the beginning are (without names because what's it to you?):
2004 - kid from FL who played club soccer
2005 - non athlete from VA
2006 - lacrosse player from Richmond
2007 - football player from Richmond who didn't really play and ended up playing baseball his senior season
2008 - non athlete from VA
2009 - baseball player from VA who hasn't really played a whole lot

These guys listed are the only Davis Fellows as the Davis family decided back in 2010 that they weren't going to continue with the scholarship.  As you can see, there aren't any basketball players who were a Davis Fellow.  As for the basketball players, I can assure you that no one on the roster came in below a 2.0 or ANYWHERE NEAR a 760.

Keep on trying to pull down the Tigers.  Get your facts straight, too.

We can get into a whole he knows and she knows thing but since no1 knows the exact truth I'll just leave this subject alone...LOL..  I never once said that they give a scholarship for basketball i just stated that a basketball player receives this. Maybe i received false information from a few of the players on the tigers who I know pretty well that informed me that they were on this scholarship. HSC financial aid packages are pretty good though. Not only for students with good grades and trust me I have with my own eyes seen many of these packages compared to other schools financial aid packages. But it doesnt really matter what job is the best in VA it's what coach is doing the best job and it would be very hard to argue against 3 coaches. Dave Macedo, Nathan Davis, and Clay Nunley... All 3 have taken there programs to the top. VWC and RMC are probably the 2 most consistent teams in the ODAC. No matter what people say on here those coaches find a way to get there team to the tourney. A down year for RMC this year and they're ODAC champs and playing for a spot in the Sweet Sixteen. In 2009 VWC had a down year where they finished 17-13 but still won the ODAC tourney. I know the coaching staff from these 2 programs very well and have the utmost respect for them. And as for Nunley he probably has the worst job in VA but has made the most of it. I believe that if he had the all-around talent that HSC had this year that his team would still be playing. With that being said LETS GO MARLINS AND JACKETS... Lets try and make it a rematch in ATL

You actually are saying they are giving out a basketball scholarship by saying they give out the scholarship to one basketball player each year. And I do think your are getting some really bad information from whomever because as Michael Herbert stated...

Curious... how could any basketball player tell you someone is getting the Davis Fellow if they haven't given it out since 2009... AND clearly not one basketball player has gotten this in recent memory?

You say "we can get into the whole he knows and she knows thing," but several people have pointed out that your information appears to be very wrong so I am not sure you can actually get into this at all. Proofs in the pudding.

^ yeah, what he said!

Let's represent the ODAC well this weekend & live to play another week!

Good luck to the Marlins at home... and to the Jackets on a "neutral" court- but with the Jackets Nation mostly in Richmond (b/c that bus ride was just TOO long).

GO JACKETS!!!  GO MARLINS!!!

Worcester Ma. received 22 inches of snow in the last 48 hours.  Anyone know if Macon made it in or when they were leaving? Lots of flights were cancelled.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Well... unless the NCAA changed the rules... they are traveling by bus.

They made it by bus in one day & said there are a couple of feet of snow on the ground.  (Or, that's how high the snow looked when they arrived last night after a whole day on that bus.)  We heard (independently) that their destination was .7 of a mile within the radius after which the NCAA has to fly them.  Now that's a close call on venue there.  But thank goodness they are safely there.

Fortunately, the Jackets are tough!  And, they will be READY!

GO JACKETS!!!!!

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

It actually goes by the official mileage for the NCAA... so .7 isn't the factor.

Randolph-Macon to WPI is 496 campus to campus... and if the NCAA was considering it, Randolph-Macon to Assumption (where the game is being played) is 499 - though I am not sure if this mileage is a determining factor at all.

Yeah, 'official' mileage is just as arbitrary as the 500 (and 200) mile cut-offs.  I know there have to be boundaries in real life (however arbitrary), but that can't keep us fans from bitchin' about it! ;D  In the classic example (Calvin and Wheaton), they are 202 by NCAA (IIRC); I could easily get them there in 197 (to make it in-region)!  It wouldn't be a route the bus would actually take, but if you just hug Lake Michigan closer on U. S. 20 (and 6), you go under 200 on major highways! ;)  (You also probably take at least two hours longer, but after all, it's arbitrary! :P)

It's good that modern highway buses aren't your yellow school buses.  I'm sure the trip was a bit of a pain, but it sure could have been worse!

FISHTANKFAN

Glad they got there safe and sound, but it sure shows you how much the NCAA values it's Div 3 teams. GRRRRRRRRRRR Good luck to them tomorrow! Go Macon, go VWC!
