Interesting article from Williamsburg paper about Brandon LaRose, one of H-SC new recruits at http://wydaily.com/2013/07/19/former-walsingham-hoops-standout-larose/
"It's not a four-year decision, it's a 40-year decision," Vick told LaRose.

I wish more coaches would use Coach Vick's comment.

Nice article on the HSC recruit. I've seen him play and he is good. What he will learn very quickly is that all star players at the D3 level were recruited by D1's and 2's and that they can play the game.

In the words of my nephew, a former DII player and huge UNC fan, "Will someone please get PJ Hairston a bus pass!"

That's funny, right there.

It is funny ... and in the words of one of my former Coaches to a teammate, "Son, I can't fix stupid."

His actions takes stupid to a whole new level

Agreed. I honestly do get youthful indiscretions. Try not to be too prudish.

When I see stuff like this though I just shake my head and wonder, who has these kids ear and what is the thought process that seems to be missing from them to allow for this stuff?  ???

"Parents Just Don't Understand" I guess....

I understand youthful indiscretions ... guilty of some myself.   PJ Hariston, however, has really pushed the boundaries of what you can chalk up to the "poor judgment/we all make mistakes" label.  This is at least three instances in a manner of months involving one of the most storied and visible sports teams in the nation, if not the world.  If he didn't get it the first (or second) time, when will he?  It's a shame to throw away such a golden opportunity that those of us without his athletic skills would love to have.  Wow.

MaroonDad17

Good point hasanova...

Basically at what point does he have to take "ultimate responsibility"?

Potentially blowing opportunity is correct. Getting ready to send my son to Roanoke, and though no athletic scholarship (obviously) have had discussions on not embarrassing (self, family, school, program) and making sure to excel in all facets. If he decides to go down another path, don't point any fingers. He has been prepared for such a time as this.....

Not a UNC fan, so outside of just seeing a kid wasting opportunity I have no significant interest here. I do hope he gets it right. Seems like there are enough active alumni with that program that even if he isn't buying what is being sold by coaches, some of them would be pulling his shirt tail.

Football season has started which only means Basketball is right around the corner. How is everyone's recruiting classes looking? Who are the guys who will have breakout years for their teams this year? Who are the front runner for POY?

I hear the boys down at the beach Reloaded. Hear that this class has the chance to be their best recruiting class ever but of course they have to prove it on the court. Here is what i have heard about some of their recruits.

Kaelin Poe- 6'6 athlete from nearby Kecoughtan HS. Here he reminds them a lot of Donald Vaughn as a freshmen and we all know the player that Donald was for the Marlins.

Andre Banks- 6'4 Wing from nearby Great Bridge HS who i hear can really shoot it. here is a link to his highlight tape.

Dre Demiel- 5'11 Guard from nearby Churchland hs. seen him play a few times in hs, Lightning fast guard (comparable to the 3 guards they had on the 06' team (Sumpter, Tucker, Dixon) with a lot of skill and court Savy.

Marcus Farber- 6'2 Wing from Stonewall Jackson in manassas. Got a chance to watch him play down at VWC for the vapreps classic. Like his size and defensive demeanor on the court. Also a capable scorer and very good shooter.

Khory Moore- 6'1 Combo Guard from Wakefield hs in Arlington VA. From talking to people I know from northern VA i hear that this was a steal for the marlins. All State performer in HS who led his team to the State final 4. Here that he has a chance to be as good if not better than DJ Woodmore as a freshmen. After watching his highlight tape i would agree.

From what I have heard and researched about these kids it looks like the marlins have brought in some players to go with Woodmore, Heard, Nady, Batson, Owens. Also hear the Marlins got a transfer in but not able to confirm his name or where hes from as of yet. I think this years VWC Marlins will be another strong team. I think if Heard steps up for them like he did in certain gameslast year that they will be able to make another march run. The man to watch of course is DJ Woodmore who I believe will be the Preseason player of the year in the conference with khobi Williamson right behind him. Also will be interested to see the development of Nady. Really the only freshmen that played significant minutes for the marlins last year but at times showed how good he was. If he can become consistent and able to fill the PG role that ford and crew had i think this Marlins team will be very dangerous.

Sounds like everybody else might be playing for 2nd place. Quite an impressive incoming class.

marlinpg10

Tigerfan,
Yea everyone is playing for second place behind your tigers! Theyre incoming class is quite impressive as well. And wait until you see Mike Murray next year. Saw him a few times this summer in the 7 cities pro-am with numerous Division 1 PG's and overseas guards and he was hands down one of the most impressive guards in the league. Look for him to have a huge year for the tigers along with arguably the best big man in the country in Khobi Williamson. Should be another fun year of ODAC Basketball. Cant wait for it to begin!!! Also wanted to say Congratulations to former RMC player and Assistant Tim Lawrence on his new Division 1 Assistant position. Well Deserved.

Marlin Faithful

Looking forward to the season as well but we have an entire football season to enjoy before hand. I know your Marlins don't field a team but bear with us for the next three months and then onto some ODAC b'ball. Should be another great b 'ball season with everybody chasing your Marlins for the title.

There was a dual track meet between the USA and the USSR during the Cold War era in which the USA thoroughly trounced the Russians, but ... according to the Soviet press ... the USSR "finished second" and the Americans finished "next to last."  So, with that in mind, perhaps the rest of us will "finish second" while the Marlins finish "12th from the bottom."  :)

Too funny. B'ball is too far away for me even to think about. Football is my sport and can't consider any other at this time. Will be fun to watch VWC, HSC, RMC, GC EMU, Randolph and LC beat each other up this year, maybe some others as well but not likely. Now, on to football until seasons end.
