Your reasons for not posting about hoops are the same as mine for not posting about football. I share your interest in soccer. First watched it at R-MC in the 60's then really fell in love with it as a Peace Corps volunteer in Brazil. I don't follow it very closely at any level now, but do go to some D3 games out here in Saint Louis.

I grew up playing soccer and watching football. Oddly enough now I'd now rather go to a D3 football game than any other level, but I'd rather watch a professional soccer game (live or on TV) than any other level of soccer. And yes, I count MLS as I'm probably one of the few people in the country actively looking for the games. Funny how we change as we grow. My dad was big in basketball, so I used to watch a lot with him as a kid, but I didn't get his size nor have the quickness to play that game.

Don't want to stray too far from a basketball discussion here, but I will watch soccer on tv over any level of football. But since I don't subscribe to cable or satellite I'm reduced to the occasional network provided MLS or Barcaly's Premier League game. Watched that great comeback by Houston vs NY last weekend. As for hoops, it's D3 for me all the way. Will sometimes watch D1 on tv but will only glance at an NBA game.

I expect Brandon LaRose, JaVonte Reddick, and Stephen Vassor will get a lot of playing time for the Tigers as freshmen.

Vassor, a very big man at 6'7" and 230 lb., might even start, especially since Cam Anderson is not on the team this fall.

Roanoke beating Winthrop at the half 40-37, Roanoke has outrebounded Winthrop bad, Withrops' coach cant be to happy  :P

Seatfiller

Roanoke lost to Winthrop 93-74, Roanoke came out in the second half and couldn't hit anything.  Game was close until the last 3 minutes and Roanoke gave up, literally walking up and down the floor at times and Winthrop getting easy transition baskets.

Guilford lost at Coastal Carolina Monday night 76-49.  It's an exhibition for the DIII Quakers but a regular game for the DI Chanticleers.  Guilford is without the services of a few players this season, most notably Will Freeman.

Is GC going to down a little this year due to the absence of the players you mentioned ?

If I'm correct, this is not the first time Anderson has missed a semester during his brief career there.   While its really no-one's business to as why he is not playing, I find it funny that H-SC fans are the first to speculate and give their opinion on other program's/school's academic and ethical standards but are crickets when it concerns the goings on in Farmville.

What happened with Cam Anderson ?

"Crickets when it concerns the goings on in Farmville" ? I asked a question as to what happened. Based on your response I assume you don't know. I don't know if he has missed a semester or not and I'm not judging, just curious about why he is not on the team. As far as what happens at other schools, I could care less, so I really don't understand your statement. I guess it applies to other HSC fans, not sure.

Perhaps.  The Quakers started 3 freshmen, one junior and one senior versus Coastal Carolina.  I don't think I ever remember Palombo starting even one freshman (including Ben Strong, Tyler Sanborn, Clay Henson and Josh Pittman), much less three! I don't know, however, if that line-up was due to injuries, better talent or simply a chance to experiment in an exhibition game (for GC).  Personally, I was expecting Will Freeman to be a starting forward this season and maybe Ben Stevenson at guard. This certainly changes the style and experience of the team in my opinion.

Thanks for the expanation. I hear HSC has 3 freshmen that should get lots of time this year. I guess with all the travel ball played these days, some freshmen aren't really freshmen and are able to step in right away.

Maroons07

Yes.  not directed at you.  Sorry about that.   :)

Cam has played all 4 semesters that he attended HSC prior to this one.

The Maroon guy who posts on this board might think before he posts about crickets and such a little more often.

The reality about HSC, academics, and athletics is that academics come first.  Not that HSC is perfect, but let's be clear about this particular situation:  That Cam Anderson is NOT playing this fall semester is a real testament to the reality that Coach Vick is more concerned about Cam as a person than he is about Cam as a basketball player.  He wants to see Cam graduate!  Cam is eligible even now to participate in NCAA athletics, but his academic standing at the present time is sufficiently precarious that he's been told that needs to focus on his grades this semester, rather than spending his time on the basketball court.  Hopefully, he'll do what he needs to do and return to be part of the team.  This is a good example of how winning in DIII athletics is secondary to the importance of academics and the educational mission.

Algernon -- If you read my post, I was not questioning Cam not playing.  I even went as far as to say its no one's business.  The question was asked on the board why he was not on the roster.  No one answered.   My point was that when stuff happens you and other H-SC fans are the first ones to make false accusations and criticize other programs.   See any post concerning VWC players (ie. posts following the game you guys gagged at home last February against them), RMC's way of ticketing, W&L admissions, etc., etc.  I was not making any judgement on the program or the player, just narrow minded, kool-aid drinking  fans like yourself.
