Thanks, Steely.  I think jttiger was grumpy after a tough couple of convincing losses for the Tigers this week.  It turned out they weren't as good as some of the Hampden-Sydney faithful would like to have believed.

And what a week it was!   Please do me a favor and don't post the results of my picks for the week.   :)  Was any "guru" above .500 for the week?

"Jimmy the German's" List of ODAC Pick'em Games for Week Eight

I need to do a day's worth of research after my 7-6 record last week, yuck.  Can't count on R-MC and H-SC winning every game anymore.  And which Guilford or Roanoke teams will show up?  And we know Bridgewater and EMU have the talent to beat anyone in the ODAC (a handful of final scores indicate that), but they'll both have a tough time finishing above .500 for the season.

Sorry, I'm rambling.  I'll get my picks in before tonight.

Tought weekend for the EMU bball team. It looks like E&H offensive strategy worked as the difference in the game was the three point shot.  E&H made 17 3-pointers compared to just one for EMU.  If all of those shots are 2-pointers, EMU wins the game.  It also didn't help that EMU had 39, yes, 39 TO's.
Well, thinking back at the 147-136 game between E&H and GC in Emory, the Wasps were 30 of 97 from beyond the arc and the Quakers were 0 of 2.   The Quakers won by 11 because they hit 53 out of 80 layups/short-range shots plus 41 FTs.   It can be done.  I know a lot of Guilford fans have marked the Jan. 18 return match on their calendars - it should be fun and I hope we have a good crowd.

Where will the Tigers be ranked (?) when the next national DIII poll comes out?

I don't think they will.  I see them and R-MC dropping out and VWC making an appearance in the 20-25 range.  I also wouldn't be surprised if all three were in the 20-25 range or weren't ranked at all.

Jim.... Why because we lost to you? What does that say about the Maroons? You can't beat good teams? IF WE AREN'T AS GOOD AS WE THOUGHT... THEN YOUR WIN MUST BE PRETTY ANTI-CLIMATIC!!! ...But yet they celebrate like they won the national championship?  Anyhow....
Jim, sorry if Steely thought I was threatening you personally, that was not my intention. I associate you with the Maroons and we intend to take care of business in Kirby weather you are there are not, but please come to get the shots! PLEASE!
As for A.J. and the Dowell's I just think you make yourself look silly, trying to drag a kids name into a situation you know so little about. But you are more into making HSC look bad, than knowing when something is proper or not.
As far as HSC goes, has anyone ever heard of a slump? Drew Prehmus has thrown up the same amount of shots he just isn't hitting anything right now. But I can 't wait till he and the rest of the tigers do...... If anyone remembers correctly HSC went to VWC and beat them at home by 12, now to beat them again that same team better show up, but every team goes through this period that's what makes them better. HSC will come out of this, I will feel for the team they play first when we start hitting shots again.

Steely- I have been on this site a lot longer than you know.... I have yet to see to many poster throw jabs like that one. It's one thing to talk about your team, it's another to continue talking about a situation that was was very dishearting for a family, the Dowell's would be embarrassed by Jim's constant badgering (TRUST ME). There are posters on this site that I do truly respect, Jim was one of them, he is not anymore! Jim- I know your feelings are truly hurt,  I will leave the rest of this argument for the tigers to defend.

Mid-Season Report Card (for what it is worth)

I think three teams have separated themselves: VWC, R-MC, and H-SC.  All are 1-1 against each other.  The road teams are 3-0.  Will the trend continue on Wednesday?

GC and RC are not quite there.  The Quakers have to show they can win on the road and the Maroons have to shoot more consistantly to move up into the top tier.  Of course, that is entirely possible.

EMU, for all the hype, has not produced.  No point guard and no consistant outside shooter.  An offense that revolves around going one-on-one, forcing shots, and attacking the offensive glass.  A defense that revolves around playing mind games by getting, literally, into the opponen't chest by handchecking and/or bumping.  That's not going to win consistantly.  In fact, if it weren't for Sager, I would not put them this high.

W&L, E&H, BC, and LC will still battle it out for the last two spots.  The Generals have a huge advantage having already beating RC, meaning they get a lot of points if there is a tie.  I think they will be patient enough to beat E&H twice, but are 0-2 against BC and LC, but both of those were on the road.  They are playing well, as they were 4 points away from being 2-0 this weekend and 4-4 overall.  BC could have won both games as well.  Big game Wednesday at W&L.  I think those two teams will make the ODAC Tournament because E&H's style is not good enough to win a lot of more games.  LC has to go on the road to play all three teams to finish the season.

Mid Season All-ODAC

Jason Sager (POY)  18.4 ppg (4th), 10 rpg (1st)
Brandon Adair         19.0 (3), 7.3 (5)
Clay Michael            15.4 (6), 8.0 (2)
Troy Kaase              20.0 (2), 6.0 (8)
Greg Bienemann     16.7 (5), 6.7 (6)

Second Team

Justin Wansley        14.4 (9), 7.4 (4)
Ben Strong              21.0 (1), 5.3 (11)
Tyler Fantin             10.9 (20), 8.0 (2)
Phil Hawley             10.9 (20), 6.5 (7)

Coach of the Year:  Tom Polambo

I know I will catch flack for not having Wansley on the First Team, but he doesn't deserve it right now.  After I had made my choices, I added up where each ranked in scoring in rebounds since they were all forwards.  The low five made first team, and Sager was the lowest.  All-ODAC is an INDIVIDUAL award, not a TEAM award.  Certainly, he can step it up the second half of the season.  And obviously my opinion is of little value or consequence as to if he actually gets 1st team.  I think he would have to play his way OFF of it, based on reputation alone.

Not any wing players/guards on my list to be honest.  I knew this was going to be a "post dominated" year, but not this much.

Will be a very interesting 2nd half.  By the way, 31-33 days left until Quarterfinal Saturday, depending on how you want to count them.

I think one, two, or three of them will be ranked between 18-25.

But who is where?  Sydney beats Wesleyan by 12, Macon beats Sydney by 15, and Wesleyan beats Macon by 13.  It's a wash, it seems to me.

Their records?  2 losses for the Tigers, 3 losses for Macon and the Marlins .... pretty close to a wash.

Who'd they lose to?  Sydney loses to Macon (13-3) and Roanoke (10-5).  Macon loses to Lincoln (16-4), Sydney (12-2), and Fisk (11-5).  Wesleyan loses to  Trinity (11-4), Salisbury (8-6), and Sydney (12-2).

Big wins?  Sydney over Wheaton (10-4)?, Macon over "#30" Lincoln (16-4), #20 St. John Fisher (11-2), and Averett (11-4)?, the Marlins over CNU (11-4)?

I'm betting it looks something like this:  Macon at #18, HSC at #21, and VWC at #24.

xcoach

Now listen Jim...so Roanoke held LC to 16 points in the 2nd half! Ever hear of a slump? You say that you can't understand how they've won a game all year yet the Roanoke kids celebrated after the win! What's going on... do they enjoy winning or something?
Another thing...I'm tired of you constantly picking on Scottie. You set the tone on this board when you go after him and others feel obligated to follow suit.
Sigh......

Well, I put a question mark after "ranked" in my first post because I thought the Tigers might drop out of the Top 25.  I still say the ODAC teams will beat up on each other this year, so I don't expect any team in the conference to have less than 5 to 6 losses by the end of the regular season.
