Never will an opposing coach get the kind of tremendous welcome that Emory and Henry's coach will get when the Wasps visit Fleet Gymnasium this evening.  The E&H coach is one of the best people we know!!

He is a great guy and I hope he starts winning some games, after tonights game of course. I hear E&H has lost 9 games in a row.

Good reception for David Willson at HSC when he was announced.  Unfortunately for his team, the reception has not been as friendly as they trail 53-22 at half.  I expect to see drastic improvement from E&H over the next few seasons.  This would also be good for the ODAC.

David Willson (spelled wrong at http://www.d3hoops.com/teams/Emory_and_Henry/Men/2013-14/index) has been hired to fix a program that won only 4 games all season in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

  4-22 in '09-'10
  4-22 in '10-'11
12-14 in '11-'12
  4-21 in '12-'13

....... So what accounted for the one season of relative success in '11-'12?

It may take 3-5 years, but I expect we'll see E&H get back on a winning track.  David has very solid experience for a guy only in his 10th year out of Hampden-Sydney, and he has character second to none.

Good luck to the VWC Marlins tonight.  Coach Macedo tries for his 300th win.

Took the time to travel to HSC last night for the E&H game. That was tough to watch. Coach Willson has his hands full for the time being. Lots of recruiting is in his future. I understand three of his starters are hurt and not playing so maybe they can be more competitive upon their return; lets hope so for his sake.

Bridgewater deserved to win tonight.  The Marlins played absolutely terrible.  I thought they played badly their last game but tonight's loss was way beyond that.  Can't win a game with 20  turnovers, miss 15 free throws, be out-rebounded by 10 and outshot by 10 %.  D j Woodmore was no factor in the game.  Congratulations to Bridgewater.  The Marlins need to wake up and execute or it will be a long second half.

The Eagles appear to have been underrated in the preseason poll, in which they were picked to finish 8th.

I watched the game last night and I'm not going to lie Bridgewater was impressive.  Their starting 5 knew their roles and they played them well.  VWC got very little easy points and the majority of the shots they took were contested jump shots.  Bridgewater did a excellent job of making sure all of Woodmore's shots were contested.  Without Woodmore shooting VWC looked lost on offense at times, VWC never led throughout the entire game.  One thing that really surprised me was that Bridgewater's post players dominated VWC's.  Its going to be a good game whenever they play Randolph Macon.

badcall!

I wouldn't say that BC is the team to beat but definitely capable of beating anyone and in the mix.  Yes, they were rated way too low by the coaches in the preseason-frankly it shocked me when I saw the rankings.  Reason being-BC is senior and junior laden with guys that have played lots of minutes since they were freshmen.  Experience is something that is invaluable, particularly in conference play.  Also, BC has as much athletic ability as anyone in the league.  Their real weakness is perimeter shooting and again, I am shocked teams are not just zoning the heck out of them and forcing them to fire up 3's.  They are shooting 21% overall from 3 point range and their top shooter is only at 28%.  Yet teams continue to play them man.  Very confusing to me at least.

I was able to see the BC/Wesleyan game in person and BC did shoot better from 3 point range (5/9) but still-they only had to take 9 3's.  It appeared to me the thing lacking for this Wesleyan team-at least on this night-was the trademark get after it, pressure defense that they have played for years.  They allowed BC to do whatever they wanted offensively.  But again-thats just one game so I don't know how they have looked defensively all season.

I expect BC to be a contender down the stretch.

Right now it looks as if VWC is still searching for that guy to be Robin to DJ Woodmore's "Batman." Previous years it was Pete Warren & Adair, Adair & Balenga, Fields & Vaughn, Vaughn, Astorga, Teasley, Ford, Woodmore & Co lol...... so as the Marlins work these guys into the mix they are also searching for someone else other than Woodmore to step up when they need a key stop/basket/rebound. They still have time left to figure that out but hopefully they do it sooner rather than later.
