Mid-Season Report Card (for what it is worth)

I think three teams have separated themselves: VWC, R-MC, and H-SC.  All are 1-1 against each other.  The road teams are 3-0.  Will the trend continue on Wednesday?

GC and RC are not quite there.  The Quakers have to show they can win on the road and the Maroons have to shoot more consistantly to move up into the top tier.  Of course, that is entirely possible.

Mid Season All-ODAC

Jason Sager (POY)  18.4 ppg (4th), 10 rpg (1st)
Brandon Adair         19.0 (3), 7.3 (5)
Clay Michael            15.4 (6), 8.0 (2)
Troy Kaase              20.0 (2), 6.0 (8)
Greg Bienemann     16.7 (5), 6.7 (6)

Second Team

Justin Wansley        14.4 (9), 7.4 (4)
Ben Strong              21.0 (1), 5.3 (11)
Tyler Fantin             10.9 (20), 8.0 (2)
Phil Hawley             10.9 (20), 6.5 (7)

Coach of the Year:  Tom Polambo

I know I will catch flack for not having Wansley on the First Team, but he doesn't deserve it right now.  After I had made my choices, I added up where each ranked in scoring in rebounds since they were all forwards.  The low five made first team, and Sager was the lowest.  All-ODAC is an INDIVIDUAL award, not a TEAM award.  Certainly, he can step it up the second half of the season.  And obviously my opinion is of little value or consequence as to if he actually gets 1st team.  I think he would have to play his way OFF of it, based on reputation alone.

Not any wing players/guards on my list to be honest.  I knew this was going to be a "post dominated" year, but not this much.

Will be a very interesting 2nd half.  By the way, 31-33 days left until Quarterfinal Saturday, depending on how you want to count them.
eagleslam, with all due respect, if Ben Strong played for a Virginia school, would he be on your first team?  :)  To me, it's pretty hard to keep a guy leading the league in scoring off the first team, especially when his team has a winning conference record.  Not sure if he'll stay in first place for the whole season, but tell me one ODAC school that wouldn't start him if he was on their team?

True, the Quakers had some road problems, so I don't consider them in the top tier right now, but W&L, RMC & VWC (the road games they lost) still have to come to Ragan-Brown where they all lost last year.  The Quakers may not win the league title, but I have a hunch they'll finish around 12-6.  The second half of the season should be very interesting.  Thanks for your analysis - I appreciate it.  :)

Freshman of the Year - David Carlson runs away with this one, nearly made my honorable mention squad.

Matt Barnhart (kid)

Player of the Year: Brandon Adair (VWC) - He's simply unstoppable

I just wish someone, sometime, somehwere would give some credit to Dave Macedo for being a great coach. Look at his record, look what he did last year. He'll probably never get coach of the year and that's just too bad.

With all due respect, I don't care what state Ben goes to college in.  I thought Atkinson should have been FOY last year.  And I chose Polambo as my Mid-Season COY.  Let's stay away from the "out of state" card, shall we?  There are two reasons why he did not make my first team.  The main one is that he averages 5.5 rebounds.  Not real good for a 6-10 kid when he has at least a 2-3 inch advantage over everyone else in the league.  Just over one block a game is not that impressive either, although I will admit he is bound to "change" a lot of shots.  The second reason is that he shoots 61% from the free throw line in over 100 attempts.  I know Kaase is at 55%, but he is at 60% in conference games only, and he has only attempted 67.  He was less than 50% in non-league games (48%) and he has worked on his shooting motion to get that up to 55% overall.  He is starting to gain confidence in his new stroke in the ODAC season, which is where I am looking at stats from.  He does lead the league in scoring.  And maybe there isn't anywhere in the league he would not start.  So?  At H-SC, or even BC, he would not be leading the league in scoring.  Kaase would still be the focal point.  Clay Michael would still be the focal point.  He does a great job putting the ball in the basket, but not such a great job rebounding.  How is that first team material?  How is it he is not even in the top 10 in rebounding and still make your first team?

xcoach...

I cannot speak directly for anyone else, but I know I do not feel obliagted to, in your words, "pick" on Scottie, because of Jim.  I feel obligated when Scottie himself tries to back out of comments, when he makes ones that make no sense, and when he tries to make me look like I do not know what I am talking about.  If you're going to get your panties in a bunch because someone "picks" on someone else, get a grip.  I'm not going to blame Jim for me "picking" on Scottie.  Anything I say is because I want to say it.  Although I must admit, Jim's recent posts have brought me much laughter and joy.

Scottie...

Not to "pick" on you, because I'd hate to get xcoach mad, but I do have a question for your Mid-Season picks.  You selected 15 players for 1st, 2nd, and Honorable Mention.  And I would think they are whom you consider to be the top 15 players in the league.  How can you put three guys from LC on that list?  It seems to me that if the Hornets had 3 of the top 15 guys in the league, they would not be at the bottom of it.

Atta boy, STH, it's OK by me to be loyal. Some people don't put much in it.
